The Black River Pack Part 2

Alpha Ronan

We undressed, placing our clothes by trees as we let our wolves take over. Titus was the largest wolf. I was over six feet myself. My wolf was over seven feet and massive with his broad shoulders. My Beta’s wolf Diesel was close in size to mine. I felt there was Alpha’s blood in Colton’s family. His wolf was a dark brown with white paws. Lee’s wolf Neo was all gray, and Lex, who was Parrish’s wolf, was gray with white around his eyes and chest. We were the strongest and fastest wolves.

As we made our way at top speed through the forest, Titus perked up like he heard a noise. He took off running as I tried to speak with him. The asshole had shut me out.

‘Titus, what is it?’ I asked in vain as he started off for the cliff. He ran until he got to the edge that looked over the town where mostly humans lived.

I took control enough to see what he saw. It was the old lodge in town.

‘Titus, what’s up?’

‘I don’t know…’ He replied. That puzzled me because no matter what, he always had some smart arse comment to make. Just then, the others finally caught up to us.

‘Hey, you good?’ Diesel's mind linked us as they came up out of breath.

‘Something is up with Titus. Let’s head back for lunch.” I replied via mind link. Something was bothering him and I would look into what it was.

We showered and all entered the massive dining hall. The kitchen was open to all of the pack. My father walked in, holding hands with my mom. I loved how much they adored each other. She was his calm when he was angry. He was her strength and her protector. They both brought so much balance to the other. I could not wait to have that.

Behind them followed my father’s Beta William, who was Colton’s dad. The guys and I followed in as we bowed to my father and mom. Just then, I felt a bump, and I knew who it was.

“You know, one day you will have to be on time for something.” I teased as I heard her grunt.

It was my sister Emerson. She was turning eighteen soon and I could not wait to meet her wolf. They would be a handful. My sister was vibrant and outspoken and never on time. She looked a lot like my mother with her curly jet-black hair. The almond shaped brown eyes and light brown skin. I took more after my father with the hazel eyes but also got the curly hair that I currently kept shoulder length. It was usually a wild mane of hair. Especially in battle. I came in looking like a raging lion.

“Well, that will never happen. My labs are priority.” Emerson replied.

She was our genius in the family for sure. She was in college level classes and planned to become a scientist. She also worked with the Witches within our packs as they learned from each other. She was a natural beauty, and my father and I both made sure she had around the clock security. No one was allowed to come near or touch her. I would end them with my own bare hands if my father did not get to them first.

“Hey, Emerson.” Colton spoke as he diverted his eyes. I had warned my friends that if anyone touched her, I would rip off their balls and feed them to them.

“Hey, Colton! Thank you for the book. It was perfect for my research!”

“What book?” I asked as my Alpha aura started to come out. Colton felt it and began to bow and expose his neck to me.

“Stop Ronan, it was for school. Calm down.” Emerson stood before me. She stood between us, getting my attention. She looked up at me with begging eyes.

“Son, calm down, please. I asked him to get the book on his last trip.” My mom spoke up as she escorted me to my seat.

I instantly calmed for these two women. They were my world, and outside of my mate, only they could do this. My dad stifled his chuckle. He knew I was a complete sucker for these two ladies. He was as well.

‘Sorry man, Luna Kelis asked me to grab it. I didn’t know it was for Emerson, no disrespect.’ He mind-linked me as we sat down. I nodded, letting it go.

My sister sat across from me as her friends waved to her passing for their table. Those girls waved to her and smiled at Colton and me. We both smirked and looked away. First off, they were barely legal and we had both had the rule of not f*****g with the ladies in our pack. I was keeping up with the promise. Lately, I think Colton was slipping. Something had been off with him lately.

We wolves were very s****l animals. We had a very high s*x drive. We were very open and free with s*x. It wasn’t some big deal. Even the women. It was however different when it was your own family. Or especially your own mate. I didn’t want her with anyone else. I didn’t want to think of someone else touching her. Ever. In any way. I know when all the women I have slept with it was totally hypocritical of me but still. I am a selfish asshole.

The food was brought out for our main table. Our amazing chefs served roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. Along with a salad with strawberries and blue cheese. We also had a culinary school that was open to all pack members. Yes this was a heavy meal just for lunch. But us wolves and other paranormal beings used a lot of energy. Training alone would burn this meal off.

“Son, I have just been alerted of some business I need to handle after lunch. If I can have you and your men come to my office so we can go over it.”

“Yes dad, we will be there. Is everything okay?”

“It is better we discuss this in private. It’s nothing that we won’t be able to handle.” He replied. He looked at me and continued in mind link. ‘We have our men checking our borders. We think we had a rogue sighting. They will be back with a complete account shortly. So eat up. We have some things to discuss.

‘Yes sir.’ I reply in mind-link as I literally wolfed down my food. Titus is ready to come out and check the borders himself.

We head to my dad’s office. Colton, Lee, Parrish and I enter. There are a group of warriors waiting in position along the back wall. Elder Gemini of the Vampire Coven and High Priestess Wicca of the Witch’s Coven that reside on our land present as well. My father and his Beta enter and we all sit around the long oak table. My father at the head as he motions for our best trackers to speak.

“Alpha,” he bows, “There was a breach near the river. We picked up one possible rogue but there was something different about them. Magical maybe?”

“With all the guards we have at every point, how did they get in, and are they still on this property?” I asked banging my hands down on the table. We all heard the wood crack under my pressure.

“With all due respect, Alpha Ronan, I don’t think the rogue is a rogue indeed. Yes, we picked up on the wolf, but we also sensed something otherworldly. Like powers beyond anything we have seen in our thousands of years.” Elder Gemini spoke.

“We must consult the High Society and see if they have gotten a read on any abnormal energy from here. If they pocked up on it then that means other species did as well.” My father responded.

“I agree, there is something going on here and it all started about a week ago. I started getting strong vibrations from down in the town. The humans I speak with said nothing has changed but I will have some of my Vampires go and check out the town again.” Elder Gemini responded.

It was weird to other packs to have our land consist of Vampires and Witches but it was better to have everyone near and available. It was safer in numbers. We helped them to secure their land and they helped to place spells on our borders. A border that was breached within the last few days.

“Ronan, I need you and your best trackers to inspect our borders. I know the New Moon pack almost touches our south west border. I will contact Alpha Zell and see if they have picked up on anything. His Luna has powers that may be of service here as well as her coven is nearby.”

“Dad, it’s close. I can go visit for a day and talk with them first hand. Then be back the next day. I don’t mind at all.” I saw Colton smirk out of the corner of my eye. I felt Titus perk up a little. He loved the ocean. Any chance to dive in he was all for it. Of course I could visit Auri while there and also release some steam.

“Son, that may be valuable. Let’s call and see if a visit is welcomed before you just show up.” My father began looking deep in thought. “Future Beta Colton, I think now would be an excellent time for leadership training for you. To experience how to run the pack in your Alpha’s absence. You’re father Beta William can help you every step of the way. Are we all aware of our roles to keep our land safe for everyone?” My father asked everyone seated at the table.

I saw Colton and his father William both nod along with everyone else. If I had to leave my pack in anyone’s leadership Colton was the man for the job.

“Yes, Alpha.” Everyone replied in unison.

We all had work to do. As future Alpha I wanted this problem found and removed with urgency. I had a call to make and a bag to pack so I can get back as soon as possible. Something was getting in our lands and it had powers that had all of us concerned.
