Chapter 4

~Christa~ Walking out of my bedroom, the boys are waiting for me again. Christa: “WhaT?!” I accentuate the T when I get the famous up and down from both of them. Christa: “I’m not dinner! Now let’s go.” Grabbing each of them by the shirt sleeves, I walk to the living room where I hear the television, say goodbye to my parents, tell them not to wait up, although I know my mom won’t rest until I’m safely back home. We get into my old faded yellow box-shaped car, laughing with excitement, and drive off for an amazing night on the town. I have to admit that it feels good to dress up and go out. *** Waking up with the smell of coffee under my nose, I rub my eyes, and Miller clears his throat. Christa: “Oh, shut up already!” Miller: “Good morning Sleeping Beauty. Who knew you could be such a hand full?” I sit up in bed and take the coffee mug from him. Flashes of images from last night start hitting me. My sparkling silver dress shimmering in the purple light of the dance floor. Shots… Oh hell… So many shots! Then a celebration of being single… Freddie: “Uh, hum! Is it safe? Is she dressed?” Christa: “No, she is naked, come in.” He peeks around the corner and Miller and I burst out laughing, but my head hurts so much, I grab hold of it. Freddie: “Naked girls don’t get hangover cures.” He says walking in with his hands behind his back. Christa: “So, that’s why you are so chirpy this morning. You had a secret weapon.” I squint my eyes at the two of them, remembering dancing like there was no tomorrow in ways I should not have been dancing with my two new best friends. But if a girl can’t trust her best friends with that type of dancing… Who can she trust? Freddie holds out his hands for me to pick one, and I tap his right hand, which he opens… nothing. Then I tap the left… Christa: “Nada… Again?” Miller: “Yeah, sorry. We only had two.” He shrugs, and I smack him on his shoulder. Christa: “Then the two of you had better leave, so I can sleep it off. Terrible wingmen you are!!!” I want to laugh, but it hurts too much! Then Miller pulls out a tiny tin box with brown capsules in it. He gives me two, and I swallow them quickly. Christa: “How long does it take? I don’t know how long I will be able to do it… Oh wow!” Almost instantly I feel the energy kicking in and the headache lifting. I look at the two of them and squint again. Christa: “If we get tested on Monday and I fail… I’m going to haunt the two of you in your old age.” Freddie: “Don’t worry, it’s all legal and all herbal. You can buy it in any health store. It just works, that’s all. Feeling better?” He grins. Christa: “Much, thank you.” I wink at him for good measure and he bursts out blushing all over his face and throat area and who knows where else. Miller: “Great! Then get that butt out of bed and get dressed. We want to go out for breakfast.” Christa: “HUH? You do realize we are only getting paid in two weeks, right?” Freddie: “Yeah, but he is…” Miller punches him in the stomach with his elbow. Miller: “I know, but I have some money saved up, and I would like to use it to treat you, now get a move on!” I roll my eyes at them and chase them out of my room. I’m going to need a shower first! Then there is the problem with my wardrobe again. I didn’t think I would have to use it so soon after leaving home. Who knew I was going to make friends like these two?! I put on a pair of black denim shorts and a white spaghetti-strapped T-shirt with black strappy flat sandals. I don’t really have high-heeled shoes because I’m so tall and would tower over Blake when I wore them. Luckily, this time I don’t get any funny reactions out of them when I step out of my room. In fact, they are nowhere to be found, and I have to go in search of the two, finding them happily chatting away with my parents in the living room. I notice that my parents are also dressed up for Saturday, and I clear my throat to let them know I’m ready. Christa: “We can go now.” Miller: “Ah, her highness has joined us.” Dad: “I like this one.” Dad grins at me, and I almost have a fit. Miller: “I hope you don’t mind, but I invited your parents along.” My eyes grow wide, and I am frozen on the spot. WHAT? Who is going to pay for all of this? Why would he invite them? Has he lost his mind?! Christa: “Sure, no problem.” Mom: “I think we should go in two cars, sweetheart. Didn’t you mention last night that you wanted to go buy a new bathing suit?” She pretends to pull at the back of my shorts, and I’m the one who turns the fire truck red in the face this time. This is so NOT fair! I thought having boys for friends would be a safe bet… Now they are friends with my parents, and I’m going to be teased double as much! I roll my eyes as we walk out of the house and get into our cars. I have to admit that the boys do make things fun, and breakfast with my parents goes great. They almost instantly become the sons my Dad never had, and when we are done, Miller refuses that my Dad even looks at the bill. Taking it away from him, he pulls out his wallet and pays for everything. Miller: “I did say, my treat.” He smiles at everyone and we leave the restaurant saying our goodbyes, so I can go and look for a new proper bathing suit, as Mom put it. Shopping with my boyfriends. One on each side of me, I hook my arms into each one’s elbow and drag them off to the shops moaning. Christa: “Payback time.” I grin, knowing that it’s finally my turn to get them back for waking me up so early after a night of partying. The first shop only has things for children, but we only find that out once we get to the back of the shop. Of course, I had to go through the entire lady’s department before we noticed it. Freddie: “Who does that?” Christa: “What?” Freddie: “Keep swimsuits for only kids?” Christa: “This shop.” I laugh, and we walk to the next store. They have nice things, and I buy a shirt I like, but there is no swimwear. This carries on for another three shops until we reach the sporting goods store, and I find the swimming department. They don’t have bikinis, but at least I found one piece that I feel comfortable walking in around the boys. When I walk out of the dressing room to show them, I’m booed so badly that some of the customers look our way. Miller: “That, darling, does nothing for your figure!” He held out one hand to his side and the other on his hip, making me nearly spit with laughter. Christa: “But I like it, it hides all the bumps.” I do a walk down the aisle and an old lady starts clapping her hands, which makes Freddie cry with laughter. Miller: “Nope! No, honey, you ain’t wearing that next to our pool. Take it off! We will find you something, even if we have to make you something out of rags!” He pulls his eyes wide, turns around, and walks away as if he was on Paris’ main runway. I nearly pee myself; he is so funny. Fine… The bikini hunt it is then. Off we go in search of a new bikini. Around lunchtime, we still haven’t found one and decide to have some lunch to rest our feet, and I get a chance to freshen up a little. I leave the boys in the takeaway seating area and go to the bathrooms. While in the stall, I heard a group of girls walking in, laughing. A smooth young voice stands out, and I eavesdrop. Girl 1: “Blake asked me to go steady last night… Look!” Another girl squeals with I take it is a delight! Girl 2: “Is that a love bite?!” Girl 1: “Yup!” You can hear the delight in her voice. Girl 1: “Finally, after chasing him for a year, he is mine.” WHAT?! Blake is dating. Oh, I know that voice!! I flush the toilet and walk out, washing my hands, I know they will know who I am. Fixing my lipstick in the mirror without giving them a second look, I make a full ninety-degree turn as Cappie taught us, slapping my ponytail right through her face and walk out of the bathroom. Their murmurs while I fix my lipstick and as I walk out are understandable. If he wants the kind of girl that will trap him by getting pregnant, then I’m glad, I’m rid of him! If only he knew who he had by his side now… His punishment for dumping me will be that I won’t tell him! The look on their faces when they see me with my two boys when they walk out, seeing us laughing and having fun in the eating hall is priceless! I had just told the guys what happened, feeling a little hurt actually when Miller told me a joke about what he thought of Blakes' performance capabilities and made me burst out laughing at the exact moment they walked out… It must have been fate. After lunch, we go to the next shop which I pray is the place we will find something because I would really like to get back home and chill by the pool after having such a long day of shopping. We are in luck and find a bunch of options. This leads to the boys demanding I show them each one before we can decide. I put on the first one and step outside half shy, almost wanting to cover myself with the curtain on the display next to the clothes. They wolf whistle as soon as they see me, and I can’t help but laugh. Freddie insisted I wear a pair of high heels like a model, or it wouldn’t be a “proper” fashion show. By the third outfit, I’m full-on modeling the swimwear and having a ball! Who knew I could have so much fun shopping with guys around! Strutting my stuff, I looked up, smiling, and who was standing right across the aisle? Little miss Muffat, holding onto Blake’s arm as if her life was depending on it, and his jaw is literally on the ground. Freddie’s eyes follow the direction I’m looking in, and he shoves his elbow into Miller’s side, nodding in Blake’s direction. Miller looks over his shoulder then looks at me giving me a wink. What the hell is he going to do now?! Standing up, he walks over to me, sliding his arms around my waist, his face up close to mine. Miller: “I think you look amazing in all of them.” He almost whispers, and I blush blood red! Feeling totally self-conscious, I can feel Blake’s anger burning right through his back. Miller: “Freddie, call the sales girl! My girl deserves all of them.” He says it loud enough for everyone close by to hear and little miss madam gasps loud enough to make me smile. Christa: “What are you doing?” I whisper. Miller: “Buying you swimsuits and getting you some proper revenge, now shut up and play along.” He grins from ear to ear and I just know he is about to do something way worse!! Softly leaning in, he places a kiss on my lips so soft, sliding his hand past my cheek and holding my head with his hand that my knees almost go weak. Not because it’s him, but because of the way he just kissed me!! It felt like that romantic kiss every girl sees in a romantic movie and dreams of getting from her true love!!! What the hell??!!! Letting go of me, he keeps his arm around my waist and turns around to look straight in the direction where Blake is standing watching us with such anger that if looks could kill, we would be a murder scene right now. Grabbing his little girlfriend's arm, he stomps off out of the shop.
