8. When I woke up the world was a new place, but I still had that one thought in my mind. I would get my son back. Now, I don’t even know where to begin to explain how different the world was. Even though, naturally, it wasn’t the world that had changed, but I had. The world was the same. I… wasn’t. Colours and smells had taken on a new clarity for my senses. It was all incredibly in focus, incredibly clear, incredibly bright. If I looked at an object I would see every single minute detail of that object. If I smelt it, I would detect every undertone. I could hear distant sounds very clearly. I could hear two people talking, three blocks away. At the same time, none of this mattered. I could see, feel, smell, but I could also ignore it, just like before. My senses weren’t heightened. S
