I held in my snort over Reid’s words echoing in my mind.
You’ve already been bought for the night, I thought about reminding my escort. My nasty attitude had bubbled out at Christine more than once after she’d shown up earlier to babysit—those plans she’d explained that kept her from taking my place. While my pissiness over her meddling remained, I reminded myself not to be unkind to the man beside me who wasn’t aware of my circumstances.
As far as I knew, he probably thought I had money to spare, considering he got a paycheck to pick me up and take me out for dinner.
I glanced back at my second-floor apartment window, expecting Christine watched us amble toward the limo. Sure enough, she looked down on us and gave me two thumbs up while mouthing Have fun!
