Cassie ran a raging fever over the weekend and ended up so exhausted that I had to take two more days off work without pay. I’d planned on doing my budget and bills the following Saturday, but when Christine handed me my check right before my lunch break on Friday, I peeked to find it wasn’t anywhere near enough to cover my expenses. My shoulders slouched along with my already low mood. Playing catch-up always sucked, and unless I could sign some new customers in the next couple of weeks, I would be in even deeper financial trouble.
Cassie and I would be eating box mac and cheese for the foreseeable future. Maybe I would break up our routine with some fancy ramen noodles topped with chopped, wilted veggies off the discount shelf.
