Chapter 14

Another day another plane ride. Tae had literally spent more time on the privet jet then she did on the ground. She had never been on the 'Go' so much since her modeling days, It was for sure a nostalgic moment as she boarded multiple flights here and there. After conquering the Apple Music launching, it was a quick stop to LA to shoot the video for Drake's song Energy off his 'If You're Reading This It's Too Late' mixtape, after wrapping up the video the team would head to Drake's hometown of Toronto, Canada for a kickball charity event that he was hosting during the week of his 6th Annual OVO Fest. A concert at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre hosted by Drake, making its infamous debut in 2009. The annual event was held on the Civic holiday weekend, also known as 'Caribana' weekend in the culturally diverse and driven city, a popular Caribbean festival catered to the Caribbean and Island influences on Canadian. Drake made OVO Fest famous for the special guests he always put on display to his hometown. Artists like Eminem, Usher, ASAP Rocky, Jay-Z, Nas, Kanye West, J.Cole, The Weeknd, just to name a few had all made their way to perform a memorable visual for fans and this year was no different, every year got bigger and better. Earlier that week Drake had been pulled into a beef with fellow rapper Meek Mill, who accused Drake of having a ghostwriter for all of his verses on songs and particularly for a record that Meek had Drake on for his album. Meek took to his Twitter for a none stop rant that went on and off for close to 3 hours. People's first instinct was that Meek's Twitter had gotten hacked but as the tweets reeled in and became more personal everyone realized that it was clearly Meek himself and he was not happy with the support or lack there was he was receiving from Drake, he had heard of his dissatisfaction but Drake didn't let it bother him, assuming he'd give the long term friend space to cool off, then speak with him on the situation The "beef" was ignored by Drake the whole week, this wasn't out of character for him to ignore things like this. Drake had always been a personal person, if you had an issue with him he preferred it be brought to him but this time things would go much differently until he was interrupted by a phone call during his charity kickball game. "YO! I don't know if you're aware, but they're really trying to end us out here. They're just spreading propaganda. Where are you? You need to come here." The seriousness in the voice from one of best friends and business partner filled Drake's ears. "What are you talking about!?" Drake's face was ridden with more than just confusion he held a finger in his other ear blocking out the excess noise from the people in the park. "Get to the studio. NOW!" Drake frowned again. "Hush, what's going on!?" "Man, just get here as soon as you can, this ain't just no tantrum bro." Drake wasted no time, he wasn't sure what was going on but judging by the tone in Hush's voice it wasn't good. Drake pulled up to his Toronto based condo. Everyone made their way to the studio, they all stood listening to a re-aired live streaming of Hot97's DJ Funk Master Flex flip flop back and forth with rapper Meek Mill about how they were going to do, this, that, and the third with the demos they say they had proved that Drake's career was bullshit, this wasn't just Meek being upset, it was a full on attack. Drake's jaw clenched as he listened to the accusations of a fraud career Funk Master Flex being and instigator throwing gas to the fire Meek personally lit as he agreed with the rapper sitting across from him. The only thing he could do was reply back. That very night Drake recorded 'Charged Up' and released it the very next day. After days of no response from Meek,  Drake was surprised that he would come at him with bullshit about not writing his own lyrics, but then not reply back. Drake was extremely confused, he didn't get it, he didn't understand. This was all about music and when Drake finally did deliver the one time he decided to play into the bullshit Meek and his team had nothing to put up. Another day passed and still no response. Drake began to get upset, he felt insulted at the other team's lack of hustle, the nerve of them to get him riled up only to ignore him. After waiting a total of four days Drake would take it upon himself to end the dispute, and the only way to end it was to make a song that people would want to hear every single night, a song that would take over the summer. This was another calculated move from the madness that was Drake's mind, it wouldn't be just a typical diss record that would eventually get lost in a rapper's discography, it would chart, it would be a single, it would go down as a haunting sound wave, it was a headshot, even after he fired one already, it was rubbing salt in a fresh flesh wound. That song would be 'Back To Back' within hours of the songs release people throughout social media lost their minds, the memes filled Twitter and Instagrams timeline, reaction videos were posted. Drake had his little comments on what he wanted to rap about in verses here and there, but the world never really got a full diss record from him. It was a surprise, a move the world didn't expect for him to take. Drake's phone lit up none stop, he eventually had to set it down for a few hours on Do Not Disturb until his social media calmed down. There was no doubt about it that this was in Drake's favor. It wasn't that he felt he needed to prove himself to anyone or load videos of him writing lyrics. What it did do for the Toronto based rapper was ensure him that his fans honestly didn't care about what he was being accused of, they didn't care for the back and forth he was being brought in, he had a following so big and so loyal that they knew his lyrics were his. It showed him just how high of stardom he operated on.
