AMARU tried to fight against his feelings, he planned not to wait for Ashera in the area where she usually stays when she visits the forest.
The next day after the night his mother was humiliated in the house of his brother, Alpha Remus, Remus went to him in rage, very mad at what he had done that night.
"You really want to get all of the attention! You always wanted to feel superior, that's why you always ruin my gatherings with the other Alphas!" his brother said, his jaw was clenched, his eyes glaring at him.
"You know that I don't have any intention to be superior because if I do, I should have fought against you to get your position right now."
"Shut up!" his brother yelled at him, "Shut up! No one can ever surpass me! Not even you!"
Amaru sighed and just chose not to answer his brother for it would only prolong their argument and conversation.
If his brother is furious, he is more furious about what happened. It was his mother that they are talking about, if his mother was hurt, it'll double his pain.
"You just always bring misfortune in my life! You always ruin me!"
Amaru smirked, "If only you accepted me as your brother, and if only you would try to treat me right, your life must've been better these years—"
"Shut up! I don't have a brother! You and your mother are just some excess baggage! You all destroyed our family! You and your mother stole my father!"
"I didn't! We never did that, Remus," Amaru said, "I am his son, it is just natural that I will gain his attention and affection!"
"You're not my brother! Your mother is not my mother! You are just nothing!"
Amaru sighed, he will never change Remus' mind about it, "Whatever you believe, Remus, I will respect that, but when it comes to my mother, everything will be different. Just think of your mother being humiliated in front of everyone, being called names that you know she doesn't deserve, let us see what you can do, and even if your mother was in my mother's situation, I will surely kill those who will humiliate her, because even though you never counted me as your brother, I counted you as my family… and protecting you is the least that I can do," he said maintaining his emotionless face and eyes with his cold voice.
His brother glared at him before leaving. He sighed as he followed his brother using his gaze. Amaru stood up and called Xerxes.
"Gamma?"
"Call the pact warriors, we will have a training today," he said without looking at his friend, he was still in the state of cooling down from his anger.
"You're not going to wait for—"
"Just do what I told you to do, Xerxes!" he yelled making his friend move and did his command.
I can do this. You can do this, Amaru. This is just for you and… her.
"Gamma, the pact warriors are already here and ready for training."
Amaru took a deep breath, hold it, and released it. He held his sword tight before he went out of the household and started training the pact warriors.
He had the struct surveillance, more strict than usual, his eyes were narrowed at every move of the pact warriors, and even the pact warriors could sense that he is more strict now. Even his friend Xerxes couldn't act foolishly around him.
"Faster!" he shouted making the pact warriors speed up, "Faster! How would you be able to win against your opponent when you move slow?!"
He walked around the group, inspecting all of the moves, the pact warriors do not have time to talk, they became too focused on the training because of his mood right now.
"Focus on your opponent, hold your swords tighter!" he shouted. "Xerxes!"
Xerxes stilled, stood up straight, and looked at him, "Gamma?"
"Pair with Largo!" he ordered. Xerxes immediately followed what he said without any second thought.
The training continued as he surveyed the pact warriors.
"Lobo, bent that knees so you will be able to move faster in any direction."
The pact warrior immediately did what he said.
He tapped the arm of a pact warrior, "Try to extend this, use force when you attack!"
He walked back in front and from not far from where they are training, he saw his brother, Remus, watching them. He just didn't mind him and tried to focus on the training instead.
"Gamma!"
He looked from the source of the voice, there he found Sumeria with a wooden tray and a bamboo glass.
"I bet you need water for a long time of training?" she said innocently. He looked at the female werewolf, this is the first time she approached him and also the first time that she near him.
"I'm not thirsty," he said coldly. The woman's eyes shut down to the bamboo glass and were about to taker her leave with Xerxes shouted.
"I'm thirsty, Gamma!"
Amaru looked at his friend, he nodded and motioned his hand to let the pact warrior drink. His friend grinned as he took the water from Sumeria.
The training was finally finished, the pact warrior went back to their homes. Amaru was sitting on the log as he cleans his sword when his friend, Xerxes went to him.
Xerxes sat beside him, he knew that his friend is just watching Sumeria doing something in her house.
"Thank you, Dude," Xerxes said grinning happily, "I really like her."
He didn't react to what his friend just said, he continued cleaning his sword.
"She is very pretty, isn't she?"
As if on cue, instead of looking at Sumeria, the image of the girl he wanted to forget flashed into his mind. His chest clenched, he took a deep breath hoping it would ease the pain.
"Aren't you really going to visit… her? I mean… even just a glance?"
He shook his head, "We can't be together."
"What if… because of you not watching her, she will be in danger as she visits the forest? What would you do?"
He glared at his friend, starting to get irritated with his words. Xerxes is not helping him to forget, instead, he kept on reminding him about her.
"Dude, I know that… you already fell for that mortal," his friend said, "We all know that before… mortals and werewolves relationship is not forbidden, you can be… you're possible to be together—"
"Xerxes…" he said in a threatening voice.
"Imagine her being killed by the wild animals in this forest, Dude," his friend said and that idea popped into his mind, he glared at his friend for his heart is not beating normally now.
"Imagine her… being killed by the werewolves…"
He clenched his fists upon hearing that, he couldn't explain the sudden anger in his chest.
"Imagine her, falling for someone else, marrying someone else, having children with someone else—"
"Stop!" he yelled at his friend. He was catching his breath as he glared at his friend that is now grinning.
"By this time, I'm sure, she is here in the forest now, Dude…"
He put his sword back to the case and he immediately leaves their village and started walking to where he can possibly find Ashera. And there, even though he was still far, he heard a familiar scream.
He hurriedly runs from where the voice was coming from, and his heart skipped a beat seeing the love of his life being cornered by a big snake which is ready to bite the beautiful maiden anytime.
The woman was leaning her back on a tree, the fear is very visible on her face.
"Please… please, don't bite me. Please don't bite me," the maiden tried to beg as if the snake was a person that can understand her words.
The tail of the snake slowly moved into a tighter position, Amaru knew what would happen next. Before the snake could strike, he pulled his sword and throw it at the snake hitting its head.
Ashera immediately look at her, the hope and relief were seen in her eyes. She immediately runs to him and he was suddenly caught off guard when the maiden hugged her tightly. He felt her trembling, she buried her face on his chest.
He gulped when he felt his heart pounding, doubling and tripling its usual pace of beating. He closed his eyes and wrapped his hand around the woman's body as well.
"I'm sorry," he apologized and thought.
What if I didn't come today? What would happen to you?!
"It's okay, you're safe now," he said, but the woman was still trembling in fear, and he understands that. He has killed a lot of wild animals before those could ever near his beloved maiden, he needs to protect her. This forest is very dangerous, this forest may have the most beautiful greeneries, the most prosperous land for trees and plants, but he also knows that a lot of wild creatures are inhabiting the place.
"T-thank you… I-I tried looking for you that's why I reached this side of the forest," she said trying to explain.
That's just when Amaru noticed that they were not in the usual place when Ashera stays whenever he visits the place, this is a bit far from the entrance.
"Why were you looking at me?" he simply and calmly asked.
"Because…" the woman suddenly couldn't look at his eyes, Amaru immediately felt that there is something in her.
Amaru has a strong sense of someone's reaction or someone's feeling, especially towards a mortal. It is one of the supernatural senses they have, they can even sense if someone is feeling ill or not.
"Hmm?" he looked at her eyes, trying to read her thoughts by looking at the reaction on her jet-black eyes that is usually expressive.
"Because…" her lips were moving but seem like she couldn't voice out her words.
Amaru reached for her cheeks, "Tell me… hmm?"
"Y-you told me… you'll wait for me."
"And?"
"And… you weren't waiting… s-so… s-so… I looked for you."
"You want to see me?" Amaru suddenly grinned with his question, "You want to see me, hmm?"
Ashera throws a glare at him, but instead of being afraid, Amaru grinned.
"You wanted to see me, yes?"
Ashera's face turned red and averted her gaze, ashamed of looking at his eyes.
Amaru chuckled, and he felt amazed at his transition, how could you bring out strange emotions in me without even trying, Ashera?
"So, you really do? You like seeing me?"
Asher slowly nodded and pouted, the fierce gamma felt like his heart was jumping in too much happiness after seeing her nod. His hand automatically motioned and wrapped it around the maiden's body and hugged her tight.
I'm sorry, Mother… but I couldn't just forget my severe feelings for this mortal. I am ready to accept any consequences, I love this woman so much, not a golden rule could stop me from loving her.
