Amaru was beyond happy as he went home to their place. He spent almost his whole day with Ashera, she watched the beauty of that beautiful maiden in close distance. He couldn't ask for more.
He looked for Xerxes immediately to tell his friend about what happened today. He remembered the pack warrior telling him to give up after he failed every day of waiting for that maiden yet she does not always come.
He found his friend outside their home, probably waiting for him. Everyone got accustomed to a lot of them who left their village for days, especially those in higher positions. There are a lot of wolf packs on different mountains and that's where most of them go and visit. Most males travel to look for their mates when it's about time for them to meet their mates.
Werewolves are immortal, they can live thousand years but most of them meet their mates at their first shift, but Amaru didn't get to experience that. They say that the moon goddess is the one who chooses their mate for them, but unfortunately, he didn't get to experience that. Some believe that maybe he was cursed for being the son of the alpha to another woman but he never cared about it. He never got an interest in meeting his mate… not until he saw that beautiful mortal maiden. He lived for a hundred years, saw and met a lot of female werewolves and mortals, but only the beauty of Ashera captured his heart. He felt that sudden feeling, the sudden joy inside whenever he saw the woman.
"Gamma!" Here comes the foolish pack warrior, his friend.
"Xerxes!" he called.
They walked to get distanced from their home and made sure no one could hear them, "How was your day, Lover Boy?" Xerxes laughed at him again.
"I saw her," he said proudly, "And we got to talk… I watched her almost the whole day, and got that chance of staring at her beauty."
"What?!" Xerxes shouted in surprise but it didn't sound offensive. "You gotta see her?! You mean her?! Her?!"
Amaru glared at his friend, "Trust me if anyone hears you, Xerxes, I will slice every part of you to the smallest pieces," he threatened, "I'm whispering here and you're shouting? You stupid?"
"Oh? Sorry!" he broke out laughing, "So, what happened? Have you confessed your feelings for her? Tell her she's beautiful? Hug her? Kiss her?"
Amaru's brows furrow, he immediately got irritated with his friend who sounds stupid and acting like a weird werewolf with both hands being intertwined.
"No…" Amaru said in limited words, "Do I have to hug her… kiss her?"
"Dude!" Xerxes called looking so disappointed, "That's a way of telling her that you love her! How could you not even know that?! Did you just get born yesterday?! You're poor!"
Amaru looked away, "I don't do that, Xerxes…"
"I'm sure she will like that!"
"Wait! Do you even know how to kiss?" Xerxes asked with the most insulting tone making Amaru glared at the foolish pack warrior.
"You're nonsense!" Amaru said and left his friend there.
Of course, I know how to kiss… I know everything. I saw a lot of those. Remus loves to do that with random females… and Father used to do that as well… with my mother.
He shook his head and looked for his mother instead. Sierra is an omega, probably the lowest position in the pack, and she was degraded more, for having a son with the late Alpha who already has a mate. Amaru knew, he felt how much his mother loved his father so much, he witnessed his mother enduring all the judgments and shame for his father, yet, his father couldn't leave his mate for they also have a son which happened to be Remus.
Him being the second son, became the most understanding, he felt the affection of his father for him, his father was the one who trained him to become a great warrior, a brave fighter. He remembered when he was young.
"I DON'T want this anymore, Father," said the young Amaru to his father. They kept training, almost every day of his life, his father was there with him teaching him how to use the sword.
"You need to learn it, My Son. Someday, you will need all that you will learn from me not just to protect yourself, your mother, your mate, or your pups, but also to protect our pack."
"I'm not going to be the Alpha, right, Father? Why would I need to pack?"
His father laughed and kneel in front of him to look at his face, "Amaru, you do not need a title nor a position to protect anyone, My Son. Sometimes, your love is enough for you to be strong and protect anyone."
"I don't want to be an Alpha, Father," he said while pouting, "It is Remus who deserves to inherit the position. He is taller, he is bigger and stronger… Remus is older too… and I know that he likes being an Alpha and he is my brother."
His father caressed his face and messed up his gray hair, "My son, do you want to be like me?"
"To be an alpha?"
"No… just me, Amaru…"
The young Amaru thought for a while then looked at his father. His father is a well-respected alpha, not just in their pack but also on the other. His father is a brave, marvelous leader, a lot of werewolves admire his father so much.
"Yes, Father… I want to be as brave as you to protect Mother…"
His father smiled at him proudly, "That's good to hear, Son. And with that, we shouldn't be tired in training… remember that you need to protect your mother."
AMARU sighed after remembering those scenes. His father had taught him a lot especially when it was about wars, that could also be the reason why he won all of his battles, his father taught him well.
It all started with his aim to protect his mother from humiliation until his brother Remus became an Alpha and appointed him to become a Gamma even though they do not have a good relationship as brothers, where he accepted his responsibility to train the pack warriors to protect their pack… And also his brother.
Then the time came that he saw Ashera, and that's just when he appreciated all of his father's teachings, that's just when he realized how lucky he is to learn the skills from the best and he used it to protect the woman who caught his affection.
"I have heard that you were gone for the whole day, Amaru… where did you go?" his mother asked him as soon as he got near her.
Amaru immediately looked for a reason to use it.
"I tried looking for my mate, Mother," he said in a low voice.
His mother turned to him with a questioning look, "It's been hundreds of years since you started looking for your mate… you still didn't see her?"
Amaru smiled… She's a mortal, Mother, a very beautiful mortal.
"I didn't, Mother," he said, maintaining his emotionless face.
"Maybe you can just pick someone in the pack, a lot of female wolves adore you, it's about time for you to have a child, Amaru."
Amaru shook his head, "I'm not gonna do that, Mother. I will only have a child with the woman I love. Even if I grow old and rotten if it's not with the woman I love… I will not have a child with her."
His mother sighed and looked at him, "I'm sorry, Son… you probably were cursed because of what I've done."
Amaru smiled at his mother and shook his head, "It's not your fault."
"It is…"
"I will find my mate at the right time, Mother… I'm willing to wait."
I'm always willing to wait if it's Ashera…
He gulped when he remembered the beautiful face of the woman. Her light-brown wavy hair that smells like flowers, those pinkish flawless skin that could light the darkness… She is perfect.
"As long as she is not forbidden to love, My Son. I will always support you," his mother said to him. He gulped hard after hearing that, he felt the unexplainable feeling of being so nervous.
He felt the sudden pain on his chest when he suddenly remembered their golden rule as werewolves that he had forgotten earlier and these past few days because of that maiden.
I can't have her… she is not the one for me. Ashera is a mortal, I am a werewolf, the love between is very impossible, it is a sin… a curse… and never good for me.
The beauty of the maiden peacefully sleeping earlier flashed to his mind. He sighed and looked at his mother.
"Remember that what I've done became a great mistake that marked in the minds of everyone, Amaru. Remember how everyone degraded us because of my mistake."
"I will not forget that, Mother."
"A mistake can change anything in our lives, Amaru, remember that my parents died because of what I've done, they were humiliated by wolves to death, if it's not because of your father, we surely had died as well."
"I know," Amaru said, almost a whisper. He sighed.
"Please do not commit the same mistake like I did, My Son… if you do not want your child to suffer."
Amaru looked at his mother who was sincerely begging him.
What if I tell you that my heart is captured by a mortal, Mother? I'm sure you will not be happy about it because it is worse than stealing someone's mate.
But I am not planning to kill the feelings that I have towards Ashera, Mother. I'm sorry. Even though it is forbidden to fall in love with a mortal… my heart already chose her to love… and I will never have control over it.
