WHEN Amaru and Xerxes got away, Amaru kept cursing his friend for what just happened. He was mad and at the same time embarrassed by what happened, he hadn't even had the chance to prepare himself, to look at least presentable.
Do I even look presentable with this? And the mouth of Xerxes! Damn it!
"What if she got scared of us?" he annoyingly said to his friend who was just grinning like he was unaffected, well, Xerxes was just so glad of what happened. "You should be thankful that I found a good excuse for all of your words. It was so strange to show up to her that instant, Xerxes!"
His foolish friend let out chuckles making him more annoyed, "At least she talked to you," his friend proudly said, "And, my friend, you got the chance to view her beauty in a nearer view!" Xerxes playfully added.
Amaru stilled and remembered her beauty. That pair of jet-black expressive eyes that reflects her cheerful personality, her innocent face, and her skin that looks so soft to feel… and those lips, those thin pinkish lips.
Amaru's lips parted as he imagined touching those beautiful lips with his makes his mouth watered and he felt thirsty and hungry to taste those delectable lips.
"Dude, you're drooling, yuck!" his friend said and acted like he was disgusted at him and foolishly laughed when his friend saw him wipe the side of his lips which made him realize that he was not really drooling.
"Xerxes!" he yelled but his friend's laugh broke out even more.
Then he remembered the words of his friends earlier, he glared at Xerxes again.
"Your mouth and tongue are also talkative!" he complained, "You kept on slipping! What if I wasn't alert to cover that mouth of yours and she heard you say raw human flesh? Do you think she will ever visit the forest again, you stupid?!"
"But it didn't happen. My plan was still successful and..." Xerxes laughs loudly again and looks at him as if he was teasing him on that way.
They continued walking and Xerxes took the basket that Amaru was holding, he took a green mango that the girl was eating earlier. He took a bite without any warning and suddenly spit it out and threw curses from his mouth.
"What the hell is that?! It tastes like goddamn… I don't know!"
Amaru glared at his friend and hit him, "Probably because it wasn't ripe! Sometimes use that head of yours, Xerxes! You'll be the goddamn death of me!" he yelled and took the basket away from the foolish Xerxes.
They continued walking their way back to the secret part of the forest where they live. He couldn't help himself but think of that pretty mortal, and thinking that he was holding the basket that she owns, he smiled, stopping himself to chuckle. There is something inside his body that makes him feel so glad… something that is unexplainable.
"You're just pretending like you didn't like it but the truth is you liked the idea of meeting her," his friend foolishly teased him and even tried poking the side of his body. He positioned his fist as a warning for Xerxes that why Xerxes stilled and behaved but he was still annoyed by the way he was looking at him.
He really is crazy, he said in his mind. He continued walking and his friend followed him.
"No one should know about this, alright, Xerxes?! If I find out that you're spreading everything, I will really pull out every part of your body," he seriously threatened his friend.
"Sure, besides I really enjoyed watching you being a lovestruck fool, my gamma friend."
Amaru sighed and continued walking.
"I don't want you to talk about it while we're with the pack. That mouth of yours does not have any control button, so beware. Or else I will strip your mouth and tongue. You get it?!"
"Yes, Gamma lover boy!" Xerxes said and even did a salute sign.
They became silent as they continued walking until Xerxes ran until he walked beside him, "Dude, maybe you should show yourself to her more often. Stop hiding behind the bush."
Amaru sighed, "No, Xerxes. That's the first and the last. I already accepted the fact that she will never be mine. We are different, we can never be one."
"And you'll just settle by looking and protecting her from afar?! Dude, that's hard!"
"It's for her safety, Xerxes," Amaru said with the tone of finality, "You know that loving a mortal is against our rule as werewolves. If I keep on sticking with her, showing myself to her, one might know and they will hunt Ashera. I couldn't afford to see her getting endangered."
"Even once? Sometimes? Not too often? Not always?" his friend asked, the typical attitude of Xerxes.
"Let's just let it. I don't want to scare her as well. I'm content seeing her," he said, also trying to convince himself.
"Dude, you better show yourself to her sometimes!" his friend tried harder to convince him, "You can have a lot of excuses, she will not get scared once she gets used to it!"
"And what shall I excuse?" he asked irritably at her friend. Sometimes or maybe most of the time, Xerxes is getting into his nerves. Their friendship lasted maybe because of Xerxes attitude that even how grumpy, snobbish, and strict he is, the pact warrior is still foolish around him, he got used to it, so he is comfortable with that.
"Try to use your head up there, Gamma! You'll be the death of me!" his friend mimicked his words earlier and broke out a loud laugh, "Tell her you were catching a cricket, a frog, a bird, a lion, a tiger, a cheetah, a crocodile, a dragonfly, a butterfly—"
"Okay, shut up! You're talking nonsense!" he said and made his steps faster but he still heard his friend talking.
"A mosquito, Dude! Or a skunk, a deer, a leaf, anything!"
"Shut up, Xerxes! Let's go! We still have training for today!"
"You should start training yourself on how to court a girl, Gamma! Give her flowers, give her fruits, give her—"
"Shut up, Xerxes!"
"Give her—"
"Say one more word and I will really make you swallow this whole mango, Xerxes."
With that Xerxes finally stopped talking and they continued walking their way to the hidden part of the forest and they started their training.
"Use the force!" Amaru shouted as he heard the sound of the wood hitting the other wood made solely for the training, it was as if their sword. There are a lot of pacts that they do not know that's why they make sure they are all ready for any war.
Amaru was supervising the training when a group of werewolves men approached them. He knew who they were.
Fabian, the Beta of his brother, Remus the Alpha.
"I must be glad that you are doing your responsibility as the gamma, Amaru!" Fabian said with a hint of sarcasm. Almost all of his brother's friends have a rough treatment for him. Probably because that is what his brother wants.
"I don't have time to argue, Fabian," Amaru said, "I'm busy supervising the training. You better start minding your own responsibility."
"You're not the boss of me! You are just a gamma! I am the Beta of the Alpha, you better watch your words against me!"
Amaru smirked and looked at the proud Beta dangerously, he knew for a fact that this Beta is not really loyal to his brother, this Beta is just waiting for the fall of Remus so he can finally have the position.
"How insulting it is! You should be the one to hold the Alpha's position, yet because of your mother's position in this pact, you didn't gain the highest position," Fabian said, trying to irritate him but it wasn't effective.
He was never after the position of the Alpha. He is happy and contented being the gamma, aside from that, he respects his brother, he is proud of him as the current Alpha or the pact.
"You can just kill your brother to earn the position. Why are you not yet doing what you're supposed to do? You deserve the position more!"
The fierce gamma got irritated by the Beta's word causing him to pull his sword and by just a blink of an eye, his sword was already positioned near the Beta's neck.
The Beta's colleagues tried to pull their swords as well but Amaru shouted.
"Try to pull it and you will see the head of this Beta on the ground before you can attack me!" Amaru swore to make everyone stop from moving knowing that he is not bluffing.
Amaru looked at the Beta who was obviously watchful of his own actions thinking that one wrong move of his will surely make him bleed knowing how sharp the fierce gamma's sword was.
"Remember that I already killed six Betas of the Alpha before you, Fabian, I will not blink to move my sword to end your life anytime if you will not stop tempting me!" he said slowly emphasizing each word to make sure that the stupid beta will hear him and understand him well.
"Gamma, the Alpha is coming!" his friend, Xerxes, said.
As if on cue, his older brother, Remus, came and stared at his sword being positioned on the neck of the Beta.
"What is happening here?!" the Alpha strictly asked him, instantly accusing him of the commotion.
"This Beta of yours was tempting me to fight you so I will take over your position, Remus!" he said.
"No—"
The stupid beta wasn't able to continue his sentence when Amaru throw a glare at him as a warning.
"I-I was just… making fun of the Gamma, Remus. I just wanted to tease him because he is weak compared to you!" The Beta tried to find a way for an excuse.
Amaru's jaw clenched, "You challenged me to kill my brother!" he yelled, gritting his teeth out of too much anger.
But Amaru stopped when he saw his brother's sword signaling him to remove his sword from the foolish Beta. The fierce gamma glared when he saw the Beta grinned in success.
Everyone who was watching, especially those pact warriors who stopped the training to watch them thought that the Alpha choose to believe the Beta instead of Amaru, his brother, like what he always does, but everyone gasped in surprise when they witnessed the Alpha moved his sword and buried it into the stupid beta's body making it scream and groan in pain and later on… died.
"No ones gonna dethrone me in my position, Dumb!" the Alpha said powerfully followed by the sound of the Beta's body fell on the ground.
The Alpha glanced at Amaru, "Next time, don't hesitate to kill anyone who is against me, Stupid Gamma!"
His brother left and the Gamma sighed and turned to the pact warriors.
"Continue the training!" he announced.
His relationship with his brother… was never been fine. But at least, he believed me this time.
He showed a small smile. He has been dreaming of making his relationship with his brother fine, just like what his late father had wished before he died.
