Brian looked deep into Joanna's eyes and asked, "What's the problem? I've saved you three times! What's wrong with kissing you twice? Don't you think I deserve a reward? And besides, I kissed you to save you. If that upsets you so much, why not kiss me back so that we're even? It's not a big deal."
Joanna: "Kiss you back? Not a big deal? Sir, I am afraid that you are too forgetful. If I remember correctly, this is only the second time we've met. How could it be possible for you to save me three times if we only met twice?"
Brian was about to reply when the bodyguards turned and began to walk back towards them, and within moments, they were surrounded. Joanna thought that Brian was frightened, so, in a loud voice, she said, "Go, Master Brian. I am the one that they are after." Joanna did not know how they had found her, but she did not want to drag Brian down with her.
Brian smiled and said, "You expect me to stand aside and watch these goons drag you away, but that's not my style. By nature, I love to be the hero that saves the beautiful woman, so it would be impossible for me to do what you've said."
Brian took off his hand-made overcoat and handed it to Joanna, and he said, "Move away so that you don't get hurt."
His words touched Joanna, but what he was about to do didn't seem right to her. She touched his arm and said, "You don't have to do this. After all, I am a stranger to you!"
Brian didn't speak. Instead, he rolled up his sleeves and turned to face one of the bodyguards. It was the boss of the bodyguards, and when he realized that Brian was going to try and help Joanna, he chuckled and said, "Gentleman, don't get yourself in trouble. As long as you walk away now, we won't hurt you."
Brian smirked and said, "That is funny! How do you know it's you that will be hurting me and not the other way around? If you want to take her, you will have to go through me first."
The boss smiled and said, "Have it your way but don't say that you weren't warned. We are going to f**k you up, and then we are going to walk away with Joanna as if none of this even happened. And if you are lucky, we will call you an ambulance on our way out."
"Enough talking," Brian yelled as he took one step forward and punched the boss in the nose. There was an audible CRACK, and then blood began to run over his mouth and off his chin.
"You little fucker!" the boss shouted as he brought his hands to his face. A second passed, and then he turned to his men. "What are you waiting for?" he howled. "Get him!"
Joanna watched Brian fight with the men. There were five of them, and she was so nervous that she didn't know what to do. Ultimately, there was nothing she could do, but Brian seemed to be having no problem handling Sarah's goons.
Suddenly, Joanna saw that one of the men had pulled out a dagger, and she shouted, "Brian!
"Watch out--" Then she dropped the overcoat, hugged Brian, and protected him from the dagger. There was a flash of surprise in Brian's eyes. He pulled her away so that he could kick the hand that was holding the blade, and the dagger flew down the hallway.
Brian pushed Joanna away again and said, "Go away! Don't stand in my way. I haven't had this much fun in ages!"
"No way!" Joanna shouted. "I want to have some fun too!" She gave Brian a naughty looked as she walked over to one of then men that was lying on the ground, and she kicked him in the head. "See! I can take care of myself!"
It wasn't long after that that they had all five men incapacitated - and Brian was amazed at Joanna's fighting skills.
In Joanna's previous life, she had not gone overseas, and she had not learned to fight. Thus she had been powerless when these men came for her. In this life, though, she was a completely different woman, and she had made it a priority to learn how to fight.
Brian gave her a once over with his eyes and asked, "Are you hurt?"
Joanna quickly shook her head and said, "No."
Brian noticed that she had something going on in her mind, but he didn't ask her about it. "Let's go," he said.
Joanna nodded and went to pick up the overcoats on the ground, and as she was picking them up, she saw a phone next to one of the bodyguards. The screen was on, and she could see a photo - and the picture was of her.
Suddenly, while she was concentrating on the photo, the boss of the bodyguards suddenly took out a dagger. He was about to stab her, but Brian pushed her away. Unfortunately, though, he was too slow, and the blade sliced her wrist.
Brian walked over to the man and stepped on his hand. "Still not giving up?" he asked. He pushed hard with his heal, and the man screamed. There was a CRACK as a bone broke, and Brian let go of him. Then he turned around and smiled at Joanna. "Let's go. I'll take you to the hospital so that we can get your wrist looked at."

When they arrived at the hospital, the doctor looked at Joanna's wrist, and he said that she was not hurt badly. He bandaged her wrist, and then he said that she could go home. Then, when they were outside of the hospital, Brian asked her, "Where do you live? Let me drive you home."
Joanna was worried that Ken would misunderstand their relationship if he saw them together, so she politely refused his offer. "I'll go home by myself," she said. "But thank you for today, sir."
Brian looked at Joanna's beautiful dark eyes, and he said, "Please, call me Brian Jones."
Joanna's eyes widened in surprise. "Your name is Jones? Are you a member of the Jones family?"
The four major families in Calgary were the Devine family, the Green family, the Gross family, and the Jones family. Joanna didn't remember a man named Brian in the Jones family, though, so she thought that that was curious… Moreover, if he was a member of the Jones family, she should have seen him before. Before meeting him recently, she had no memory of him.
Brian didn't answer Joanna's question, so she pretended that she hadn't asked it. She reached out her hand, smiled, and said, "Hello, Brian Jones, I'm Joanna Devine."
Brian shook her hand and pulled Joanna into his car right away. Joanna gasped as he closed and locked the door from the outside. Once he was in the car, she shouted at him: "Brian, what are you doing?"
Brian looked at her reflection in the rereview mirror and said, "Tell me where you live so that I can take you home!"
