Chapter3

Sarah “We are officially eighteen today,” I responded and I could feel the joy in her. “Are there more motives for your happiness?” I asked Claire. Like I spoke earlier, I expected her to be down but she remained silent in everything that happened between me and Williams. I know we were not mates but the betrayal hurts. Claire didn't answer my questions and I just shut my eyes to have rest. There was a lot to do in the pack and if they found out I didn't sleep there at night, I would be punished. Therefore, to wake up early, I needed to sleep right away. I woke early with the thoughts of Jackson. I still don't know why he left last night and I also didn't feel used by him because I requested him. I found my way back to the pack and thankfully, no one had seen me sneaking in. After doing a few things in my room, I picked up my school bag and began working around to help with chores before going to school. I could see Williams and Maya, the lady Williams cheated with, coming out. I never knew the lady was a member of our pack. I immediately looked away so he wouldn't see me as weak or think I still cared about him. “I don't know how a weakling like her thinks she would be a match with the beta’s son.” “Imagine the courage she exhibited in the video. Did she expect him to leave the other lady and run to her?” “I blame Williams for showing her a little kindness and she already pictured herself as his lover.” I tried to cover my ears to stop hearing the side comments but it appeared like they intentionally spoke loudly because that wasn’t how gossip sounded like. I got everything done and I was on my way to school. Other wolves would have gotten a happy birthday from their loved ones, but look at me, no one even knows it was my birthday. I doubt if Williams figured it out too and I care less now. I sighted Alpha and Beta, Williams's father, stepping forward and I turned in the opposite direction and fled. I didn't like coming in contact with the Alpha or Beta because of how Ruthless and demeaning he was to me. The School wasn't going to be my favorite place anymore because the only thing that made me happy, which was Williams, is now a past fence. All eyes were on me but I walked majestically to my class despite side comments and spiteful words they said. I searched for Jackson all this while but I didn't see him so I knew I was going to see him on the football pitch. Sitting at my regular position, the football players gathered and split into two. Seeing Williams didn't make me feel anyhow anymore and I also avoided looking at him. It was only on that day that I found out who the ladies constantly looked at. I traced their gaze and lo and behold, it was Jackson! I haven't noticed Jackson’s skills. Let's say because I was always too focused on Williams. Aside from his skills, his physique was always selling for him. Jackson just looked at me and I threw away my face immediately. What is this? Does he know this was my seating position? my heart pounded as I looked at the floor and stayed like that for some minutes. “It’s a goal,” everyone screamed and that was when I looked up and coincidentally our eyes met again. I was going to swear that I was not looking at him but he wouldn't believe it. The match continued with twenty minutes remaining. This feeling where you are not even looking at someone but you can feel them stealing glances at you was my predicament with Williams. I could feel his eyes on me but my eyes were Jackson's. He must be shocked because I never really liked football and always enjoyed it because of him. Oh! I nearly forgot, everything I did then was because of him, including my existence. Maya, the Lady that Williams was cheating on me with, ran over the pitch and gave him a bottle of water and I regretted catching a glimpse of that. “Goal.” The crowd screamed again. It was the last goal before the whistle was blown and those for the other team that had lost were not happy. The scores were the same before Jackson scored the last goal making his team the winner of the match. As usual, the girls were screaming for Jackson and then suddenly, something so dramatic happened. “My last goal is for her,” Jackson jubilantly pointed at my isolated space. Eyes darted to me and I turned back too to see if there were people behind me but no one was. Sparking up another rumor wasn’t what I wished for so I feigned it wasn’t me but they were already raising a question. “What kind of relationship do they have?” “I guess he must be mistaken. An alpha like him wouldn’t have anything to do with that bad blood.” I ignored them all and left the pitch. It was time for my solo birthday celebration. While I walked, the last statement got me worried. Jackson? Alpha? I deduced I didn’t hear that clearly so I just moved to where I was headed but Maya blocked my view. “What’s with you and Alpha Jackson?“ she groaned like she was going to pounce on me. “If you are that bothered, you can confront him because I’m as confused as you are.” I hastened my steps after replying to that, to avoid her running after me. If Maya wanted to be with Williams so bad. Why was she asking me about Jackson with that look? Well, William’s relationship was the last thing I wanted to worry about. I got to the same bar where I was yesterday. I had gotten some chicken wings and lettuce. I sat down to eat and wished my parents were alive to witness this day. I don’t even know them but whoever they were, they needed to see their baby turn eighteen and become an Adult. “What now?” I asked Claire, my wolf, who was jubilating inside me. “Can’t you feel it?” “Feel what?” “Don’t worry, you will soon.” A part of me told me Claire was referring to mate but I didn’t want to ask. After heartbreak, a mate was the last thing on my mind. “Happy birthday Sarah.” Jackson appeared from nowhere and wished me well. I was cheerful because apart from Williams, no one else had ever wished me a happy birthday. I mentioned having my solo celebration to him yesterday, hence why he came. “Thank you,” I said, blowing off the candlelight on the small baked cake he brought as a present. Now, a strong scent filled the air and I could now figure out why Claire had been happy. I looked up to see the moonlight glaring at me. “Mate.” I and Jackson growled together.
