Sarah
The rays of light flashed on my face and I opened my eyes slowly with a yawn. To be frank, there was nothing to be delighted about each day because it always came with a different kind of misery.
Everything about my life was different from others. Earlier, I did envy other wolves but now I'm used to it and have accepted my fate.
Well, maybe today was a bit special, though not as special as tomorrow.
Tomorrow, I will mark my eighteenth birthday, and not just that, my relationship with Williams will no longer be secret.
I was born as an outcast and a weak Wolf and I don't know why my fate was like that. I didn't get the treatment that other privileged and strong wolves got but it was perfectly okay.
I have my boyfriend Williams by my side always and that was enough for me. I and Williams have been friends for four years. We started dating after the second year but he said I should keep it a secret for my safety and that made sense.
Williams was the son of the beta of our pack so if they found out we were dating, I would only be on the losing side, but once I turned eighteen, Williams said he would consider me as an adult who can fight for herself and we can announce our relationship.
“Sarah, why are you not out yet?” one of the guards at my door asked, so I pretended that had just come in and was out before.
“I wanted to get my bag,” I replied to him but he just ignored me totally, I was used to it anyway.
I ran around the pack to know if there was any errand to do, and then from there, I would go to school. It was my routine each day.
Sometimes, some pack members will intentionally delay me and make me late which will result in the mockery and bullying I still get in school. Serving punishments was now like a hobby to me.
Between School and my pack, I don’t know which one to choose because the way I got treated was the same in both places but for Williams, I will choose the school. I get to see him more and we do some little things in secret.
Carrying my bag, I jogged to the school. Even though I and Williams aren’t in the same class, I would pass through the window and look at his face before heading to mine.
Don’t judge me yet, I heard all these were normal and that people do more when they are in love.
“You are late again.” I heard a voice say to me and that was when the smiles faded from my face. I had been smiling the whole time since I passed William’s class.
I raised my head, it was my lecturer. He has been kind to me for reasons I don’t know and sometimes I just wished he punished me.
“Get in.”
“Thank you, sir,” I replied immediately before he changed his mind.
I could hear different side talks and all, but I didn’t care. I have no single friend, not in school, not even in the pack but I have Williams, my boyfriend.
“I don’t know why they still let her be in school, it's obvious she’s cursed and will never amount to anything good.”
“True, I have never even heard her speak, is she dumb?”
I gulped as I went to take an empty seat in the back. I knew what they wanted to do. To get me to reply or say something that would amount to bigger trouble for me.
I have never confronted anyone or spoken back at anyone who said negative things about me or bullied me.
All I had to do was wait for Williams and tell him everything after the classes. I also loved watching him play football, we had sports after classes each day and I just sat in an isolated place and smiled at my boyfriend’s skills.
“How was the class?” Williams scrutinized me from a distance and observed I didn't feel so great.
The scowl on my face gradually turned into a smile and that was because I just met my boyfriend.
“They won't stop saying shady words to me but I'm better now.” I didn't realize how much I was grinning until Williams used his hands to squeeze my face back to normal.
“You should always be confident.” He let go of his hands from my face and I staggered backward a bit, laughing.
Aside from being my boyfriend, Williams was also a friend and adviser. He always motivates me and with his words, I overcome everything thrown at me because at last, he would be proud of me.
“I will be going to the football pitch now, let's meet after that.”
I nodded countless times, I wanted to remind Williams that my birthday was tomorrow, I'm certain he remembered but I still needed to tell him myself.
“I trust you to defeat your opponents,” I spoke to him not wanting to bring up my birthday at that awkward hour. Since he said we would meet after that, it could wait till then.
Williams was a bit ahead of me, he would go to the football pitch while I went to the stands where other wolves stayed and watched.
I had a permanent position in the stand, no one sat two seats by my left and two by my right, two seats in front of me and two seats behind me.
Duhr, who thinks about that anymore? My Williams always won the match and I saw the pitch clearly from my corner.
Everyone’s attention was on some other male wolf I wasn't interested in but I only looked at Williams. The opponent managed to score but William's team still won.
I ran happily to the spot where I and Williams would meet. I was going to congratulate him and tell him how well he played. To me, he stole the spotlight.
I waited and waited but Williams didn't show up. I know they do have a small gathering or meeting or whatever it was after each match, but it doesn't usually take time.
It takes like ten minutes but I have been here for almost an hour.
I decided to go back to the pitch to look for him and when I went there, the pitch was empty and no single Wolf was there.
There were still wolves around in the school premises and as I walked I used my eyesight to search for Williams but I didn't see him.
I got drawn away by a noise coming from a corner so I went closer.
“They have been inside for a while and we can't get in. I guess she's just happy that his team won.”
“Williams is a good player but they shouldn't keep people standing here.”
I didn't know what that was all about but from the comments I heard, I knew that two wolves were inside having a romantic moment.
I also heard them mention Williams but I know it's not my Williams. However, curious like other wolves, I was going to watch and see what happens when the wolves inside came out.
The door finally opened and everyone lengthened to see the partners come out. The male had his arms wrapped around the she-wolf and it was then I saw his face clear.
“Williams.” I spat abruptly, trying to understand what this was all about. I tried to control myself but it wasn't just complying. The man I was looking for all these while was inside with a lady.
The crowd had turned to look at me and I became the center of attraction. They made way for me as I moved to where Williams stood.
“What’s wrong with her? She's got some guts.” I heard them say that but I didn't mind at all. My boyfriend was going to explain and I knew those were just misconceptions.
I recognized the lady as one of the cheerleaders who always sought everyone’s attention. I have seen her face countless times but we've never spoken before.
“Why are you wrapping your arms around her? I was waiting as you instructed, why are there rumors about you.” I said to Williams in whispers because of our private relationship and I expected him to comply and explain things to me.
“I was only with you out of pity, don't mistake my kindness for love.” Williams spat out loudly and I could only feel my heart shattering.
The laughter from the background, the mockings and insults, I could hear them all. Oh, I can see some camera lights flashing on me also.
All I could hear was run.
