Chapter 35 Evan drove slowly through his old neighborhood, his face still burning and his heart pounding. Michelle hadn’t questioned him. She was still operating under the assumption that he was trustworthy and loyal. He didn’t think she suspected anything was going on but the last-minute faculty meeting Evan had plucked out of wherever lame excuses lived in his mind. He would have felt a lot better if Michelle had grilled him under pain of deep suspicion for at least an hour before letting him go. Whatever his own hopes or expectations might be, he wanted to get that under control before he got to Anne’s house.
