Chapter 30
After the joyful furor and disruption of Christmas morning, Evan finally got time alone with his sister. Wrapping cleared away, huge brunch devoured, Hurricane Ed departed, Evan’s brother-in-law and nephews crashed early, leaving the two of them stationed by the fireplace.
Both of them referred to this rare time as their annual b***h session, even though most of the time the catching up was positive. Evan hoped she wouldn’t mind that this year he really did need to complain and commiserate.
Hot toddies in hand and sharing a plate full of ginger cookies, Gwen assured Evan that their father hadn’t acted any worse than normal that morning. She was certain Evan’s time away only made everything seem worse.
