This is all Adam can think of saying the moment the story is over, but he only succeeds in earning himself a glare.
"I am not done yet." Marva says.
He blinks, settling back again. "Oh, yeah, of course. You can go on."
"I didn't know what to do after that," Marva continues. "I couldn't go back home because I'd already said some bad stuff to my parents, and I'd lost him forever. The only man I'd ever loved. I never married anyone in my life, and now look, I grew old alone. And miserable. Because I was scared to fall in love again."
That was her own choosing, Adam thinks. She was not the first one to be heartbroken and certainly was not the last one. S
