“Get behind me!” I raise my voice and Melissa quickly hugs me from behind. I grab a hold of her hand, making sure that she is near me and not tousled by the wrecking ship. With a terrible roar, the creature whips its tail, sending a massive wave crashing over the deck, threatening to drown all in its path. But I stand firm, my stance is unwavering.
As the wall of water rises, towering above us, my expression hardens with determination. In a single, fluid motion, I swing my sword in a wide arc. The blue light from my blade slices through the air, meeting the wall of water with an explosive force. The wave splits cleanly into two, the water shears away harmlessly to either side, cascading off the ship in a torrent but leaving Melissa and I untouched.
