I Am The f*****g Law

2456 Words
Summer I looked down at the screen of my laptop and realised it was already half past seven, I had already designed the outlet for the upcoming magazine and then I had started on my own little project. Ryan already had designers, my job was to just catalogue the designs and place them in the magazines with some touch-ups. But I had always wanted to have my own collection designs on display, to own a boutique, where I could display my not so normal ideas of clothing. And I was working on one of those designs that I didn't realise how much time has passed. Now saving my work I decided to call it a day. When I walked out, I grabbed my phone from the desk where it was lying silently all day. Waking up the screen, I saw a text from Arjun. “Call me, when you are ready to head out.” I did and he picked up on the third ring. “Done for the day?” He asked. “Yeah, just coming downstairs.” I said as I closed my office door and walked to the elevator. “Okay, later.” When I reached the ground floor Arjun was already there chatting with the receptionist and even before I closed the distance between us I knew he’d be flirting with her. “… you must know that already.” I heard the last of his sentence and said, “Yeah, we all know how you like to charm all the ladies around you, Arjun.” He turned to me, a warm smile on his face. “But there’s only one I’d like to be truly charmed by me.” I rolled my eyes. “Come on, leave the poor girl alone. Let’s go.” With his arm around my shoulders, he said, “Tell me, if I should be worried about anyone who’s already got you, before I start working on my charming skills to woo you.” A set of blue eyes came into my mind, but I slammed a door on that line of thought and said, “Nope. But let me warn you, your smiles as cute as they are won’t work on me.” “Damn!” When I turned to face him, he said, “You are one of those girls, aren’t you?” I arched my brow at him to which he added, “The ones who like their men all brooding, dark and dangerous.” I swallowed and even though a voice whispered a loud yes in my mind, I searched for an answer to give him. But I was saved as we walked out of the main gates of the building and my brand new driver walked up to me. “Miss.” I could feel Arjun’s eyes on me, but I looked at the man in front of me and said, “I don’t need you to drive me home. We are going for some drinks and my friend here will drop me after.” “But, Miss, I can’t let you—” “Listen here, you—” I was about to let lose a tirade of words that I might’ve regretted after sometime. But Arjun’s hand on my arm stopped me mid-sentence. “Its okay, you can meet me there. And then you’d tell me what this is all about.” There was no question at the end and I knew he already must’ve some idea of what was happening. I wondered if Ryan told him everything, but for now I decided to just get it over with. Arjun must have sensed my resignation, as he said, “Meet you at the Louis’.” I nodded and barely suppressed the urge to stomp as I made my to the Escalade parked on the right. As soon as I sat down, I pulled out my phone and tapped the screen for recent messages. “WE NEED TO TALK.” I sent the text, almost breaking my nail as I pressed the send button. “If you want, but I’ve other ideas for that mouth of yours.” My nostrils flared and my fingers tightened around my phone. I didn’t know what it was, my irritation or the sudden spark of excitement that had me on the verge of screaming. “STOP IT!!” “I haven’t even started, Little Red.” “Ugh…” I threw my phone across the seat and grabbed my hair on either side of my head. For real, all I just wanted was to climb onto my bed and cry a little for myself. And with that thought in my mind, I was reaching for the phone to call Arjun and cancel the drink night, when the car suddenly pitched to the left. I caught myself on my elbow as I fell down sideways. “Wh-whats happening?” I asked as I straightened or tried to but the car pitched again, almost swirling on its tires. “f**k!!” I heard the driver yell and then, “Get down.” I didn’t understand at first. Why would he tell me to get down? But then I heard the unmistakable sound of bullets firing, one cracked the rear window. I watched, almost in a trance, as a bullet lodged itself there and a web formed around it. “Miss, get down!!” This time I didn’t waste anytime, I scrambled of my seat and sat down in the space between the passenger seat and the backseat. My fingers shook as I grabbed for my phone, I didn’t think even for a second before I dialled his number and pressed my phone to my ear. “Miss me, Little Red?” He answered on the first ring. “Gabe...” I breathed into the phone, only to whimper as the car almost tipped on its two side tyres and my head banged on the door. “What the f**k is going on?” I heard Gabriel shouting on the other side. “Someone is shooting—” I didn't get to finish my sentence as this time the car literally turned over. My whole body moved with the car. My fingers made to grab for something to hold on but only clutched air. I heard the guns firing, cars honking, sirens blaring. But it was all quickly fading, images blurring and, people and buildings spinning in my vision as my head collided god knows how many times and every part ached. The thought of dying entered my mind, and images of my father in Russians hold and my sister being sold for money entered. My eyes were already slipping back inside my head, when the car flipped over and I felt the loud bang before it seemed that everything came to a sharp halt. Gabriel I didn't wait for my car to stop as I threw my side of the door open and hit the ground running. I heard the rest of the cars coming to a stop behind but I didn't glance back to see my men pouring out of the vehicles and already surrounding the area, looking for any signs of danger still present. There was already a crowd forming around the Escalade, which as I got closer I realised was upside down. But the people were starting to step back from the car as the police officers cautioned them. “f**k!” I growled under my breath as I charged through the crowd, noticing the cracked windows, unmistakable signs of bullets marring every inch of the Escalade. It gave me little solace that the Escalade was personalized and was bullet proof. I pushed forward, some of the onlookers still standing, watching as if it was one of their daily soap tragedy. But one look at my face and people started parting, giving me space to pass by them. “Move!” Mac barked from behind me. As I came to the clearing and made my way straight to the car, I realised how f*****g hard my heart was beating and my blood seemed to burn and chill at the same time. Red hot fury surged through me for whoever dared to do this, he would regret it till his last breath and the emotion that I hadn't ever felt since I ran away from home— fear. One of the young looking police officer came to stand in front of me, stopping me in my way. “Sir, you can't go near. The fire department and EMT are on their way.” “Do you even know who the f**k I am?” I growled, just ready to tear him apart if he didn't move out of my way in the next second. The little s**t puffed up his chest as he said, “I am sure you are not above the law.” Any other time I would've given him credit for this stupidity, but not now. “I am the f*****g law. Now get the f**k out of my way before I kill you.” His eyes widened and before he could say anything else, a much senior officer came forward and pulled the younger one back. “I am sorry, sir. You can go.” As I stepped forward one of the onlookers shouted. “I don't think you should go, the car is probably leaking gas, it could…” I didn’t bother to listen the rest of the s**t he wanted to say, the only thing that mattered to me was inside that car. And until I get my hands on her, I won’t sit still. Reaching the car, I crouched down and looked inside, for a moment everything froze around me and inside me, as I watched her prone body lying on the roof at an odd angle. No movement told me that she was unconscious. And that fucker from the crowd was right, the car was leaking gas. As if Mac heard my thoughts, he said from behind me, “Boss.” I ignored him and tried the handle knowing it won’t budge considering that the door was slightly askew from the middle. One glance at the driver told me that he was dead. The airbags were as much as a life savior, as they could be one to take your life. “Summer!!” I punched the window. But it didn’t even crack. “Let us try, Boss.” Two of my men stood on either side of me. “Too much force and she’d be showered with broken glass.” I gritted out, already out of patience. “Sir, here…” I looked up and found the senior police officer from earlier. He gestured at the back window. Rounding the car, I watched the two bullets lodged in the rear window, cracking it that a small hole was there. Without a thought I inserted my fist and then flattened my hand on the other side to push the broken glass out. Shards of glasses fell down on my feet as I cleared more space. When only jagged edges were left, I pulled my suit jacket from my body and was mid way inside when Mac said, “Boss, let me, you’ll hurt yourself.” “She is f*****g bleeding and you want me to care about if I get few scratches…” I snapped at him, even though I knew he was coming from a good place but right now all I could think about was to get her out of here. I reached inside cutting my arms in the process, but still it wasn’t enough. “Summer….” I called out. “Little Red, come on…” My fingers touched hers and I gave a squeeze and a pull. Just wake up a little. Damn it. And she heard me. Her fingers moved, curling around mine like a child. An image from the past came when she would come running down the stairs and grab my hand. Demanding to go on a ride with me. I shook that image out of my mind, now was not the time. “Wolf…” A soft whisper. “Yes, Little Red, come on… grab my hand…” I felt her trembling fingers on my wrist. “Yeah, closer, baby…” The car shook as she slid closer. And then a whimper left her. “Summer?” “My leg…” She croaked out. “Here, just wrap it around your head…” I thrust my jacket at her, and watched as she tried to wrap it around her head like a scarf with one hand. “Boss, hurry!” One of my man said. I didn’t have time to look what had my men so tense, but I could hazard a guess. “Just keep your head low and put the pressure with your uninjured leg… just like that… yes…” When she was close enough that I could grab her arms, I pulled her, but at the same time hands grabbed me and half pulled me out of the car. Looking over my shoulder, I glowered at Mac. “What the f**k do you think you’re doing?” “Sorry, Boss, my job is to save you. The car is just seconds away from blowing up…” As he trailed off, the crowd let out a collective gasps. Mac looked up and cursed. “The front is already catching fire!” He hissed. “Get. Off. Me.” I hissed out and elbowed him back. With renewed determination, I scrambled back inside, my elbows screaming as I put them on the shards of glass strewn inside. But all my focus was on the woman now looking at me through slits of pain filled purplish eyes. “Go a-away…” She whispered, trying to free her hand from my grasp. “Not a chance in hell, Little Red, I haven’t just got you to let you go now…” And with that, I grabbed her under the arms and hauled her out. I ignored her muffled scream and the broken glass digging in the side of my torso from all sides. With her secure in my hold, I slid back and felt Mac’s hands as he pulled me out. I didn’t loose my hold on her as my men almost lifted me from the floor and away from the car. Looking around I realised that the police had already cleared the area and now EMT and fire department had arrived, but my main concern was the woman in my arms. “I need doctors…” I ordered. “Here,” Mac directed me toward an EMT van. “Let them check her.” He prompted when I didn’t put her down. Grudgingly, I laid her down on the moving bed inside. It took some effort to leave her side, but I had heads to severe. I won’t relax until I know who did this. “Don’t leave her side.” I told Mac and made my way to the police officers standing near the crashed car, which was now already engulfed in flames. “Sir, you need medical attention too.” One of the EMTs said. I looked down at myself and saw almost half of my shirt was covered in blood and was torn apart in places where the glass had cut, my arms and torso was a bloody mess. But the pain from those guys had nothing on the rage that was still brewing inside me. “I am fine. Check on her.” I replied, my mind on the list of men who’d dare to go against me through her.
