Opening Up

    Shepard flips on the lights, the room lighting up in a soft reddish glow. I slug the book bag onto the ground, taking in the simple yet extravagant room.      Soft dark red carpet is sprawled across the floor, the walls a simple black and grey design. A wooden desk and dresser stand against the side of the room, a small fridge is tucked away in one corner. One window, covered by thick black curtains looks out to the back of the building. A few abstract paintings are hung on the walls. My awe leaves my face as I realize one huge issue with the room.     “There’s only one bed.” I mutter, face turning into a frown.
