Chapter 10: repercussions of love

Amy went to lunch with Charles, on their way to the canteen Charles kept looking down not saying anything.
“I am sorry that I was rude to you yesterday, its just that it was my first day at work and it was harder than I thought it would be.” said Amy, and Charles smiled…
“Thank God, I thought that it was because maybe you didn’t like me and I was hurt because I kind of like you.” said Charles looking Amy in the eyes, she did her best to hide the hatred in her eyes…
“Really, you like me?” she said fake blushing, Charles smiled deviously, he was now back in the game and he was going to win this little girl’s heart…
When they were finally seated and eating Charles started telling her stories that she has heard a thousand times and in her previous life she found them cute but all she could think of now is if they are even true…
She just smiled politely and acted like she was listening and where he said some jokes she fake laughed but he didn’t seem to even notice that she was faking it…
In her previous life, she thought that Tate was self-absorbed but now she can see that all this time it was Charles who was self-absorbed…
“So are you and my brother Tate getting along?" asked Charles and Amy frowned a little.
“He is terrible, doesn’t say anything and it gets a little weird… hey I noticed that you two aren’t that close why?” Amy asked but she knew the answer all too well…
She lived with the Andersons for 2 years and she knew of all the family drama but Charles doesn’t know that she knows and if she wants to win his heart she is going to use all the knowledge she gained while living there…
“Yeah we don’t get along, Tate hates me but I honestly don’t have a problem with him… it is him that has a problem with me, you see we share a father but we have different mothers… Tate’s mother died and our father married my mother.” said Charles and Amy were listening and she was clearly showing that she was buying his story…
“So Tate hates you because of that? But why? You are brothers and you should get along.” Amy said.
This was how Charles won her heart the last time, he played the hated brother and made Tate look like the villain while he made himself look like he was the victim, but she knew better…
She might not know the real reasons why the brothers don’t get along but it is because of what Charles said it is.
She has never spent much time with Tate but he doesn’t look like the kind of guy who would hate someone for such a petty and stupid reason…
“Yes we are brothers but all he sees when he sees me is just the son of the woman who replaced his mother.” said Charles and Amy put her hand on top of his she wanted to take back her hand because just holding his hand made her want to bury him alive…
When they were done having lunch Charles was convinced that he now has Amy wrapped around his little finger, “what about we catch a movie tonight??” Amy said and Charles smiled and nodded…
“I would love to; I will pick you up… you can pick anything I don’t mind as long as I am watching with you.” he said, and Amy smiled… “really?? Aren’t you a gentleman, but I want a movie with fighting and swords” Amy deliberately mentioned that because she knew it was his favourite movies…
“You mentioned two of my favourite things… sword and fighting, so I will come to pick you up from office around 6.” said Charles, and Amy nodded…
Tate was in the office waiting for Amy to come back, she has been with Charles for over an hour and he didn’t like it at all, Tate has seen first-hand how manipulative Charles could be and he didn’t want Amy to be used and manipulated by his selfish brother…
As he was in his office his best friend Mike came in, “hello, were you daydreaming mate?” Mike asked and Tate glanced at him with his usual cold glare.
“Hey don’t bite my head off, but you know what it means when you daydream about a girl? It means that you are falling in love with her” Mike said but Tate just rolled his eyes...
He wasn’t daydreaming about her he was just wondering where why she was taking so long.
“I am not daydreaming.” he said, and the office of the door was then opened, and Amy came in…
He couldn’t tell how her lunch went because she has this thing of hiding her emotions, “tell Tate that falling in love is not wrong.” said Mike looking at Amy…
She looked between the two men, “it doesn’t matter if she agrees with you or not... I just don’t believe in love and that won’t change.” he said and Mime frowned.
“come on Amy tell him.” he said...
Amy took a deep breath, “I have to agree with Tate on this one, you can fall in love but nothing comes out of it… just empty promises, lies, betrayal, obsession, insecurity and if it gets too far murder.” she said leaving Tate and Mike surprised…
The other things she mentioned were true and likely to happen but then she went and said murder, Tate looked at her and saw something in her eyes when she said murder it was like she knew what she was talking about…
“Murder? Aren’t you taking it a little too far?” asked Mike.
Amy looked up like she was thinking about it and then at Mike, “no, I didn’t take it too far it's true.” she said…
“Well, I agree with Mike this time Jade, you took it a little too far.” said Tate, Amy was surprised that he called her Jade.
No one uses that name, and everyone calls her Amy but why did he just call her Jade?
She remembered that they were in the middle of something, “when a married man or woman dies, and they suspect homicide who are the first suspects? That is their spouse because people can kill for love or many other reason... the truth is that people use love to hide their evil intentions and because just the mere thought of being loved blinds a person we don’t see that they have bad intentions… I for one would rather marry for money and power than for love because money and power will never betray me.” she said and by the time she was done Mike and Tate were looking at each other surprised…
When Mike left after losing the love debate Tate and Amy went back to their jobs, it was around 5:30m pm when Tate felt hungry, he looked at the woman by his side and found her still working and focused on what she was doing…
“Do you want to have an early dinner?” he asked her, but she shook her head no, Tate was a little embarrassed, he has never asked a girl to dinner and they say no so he didn’t know how to react to this…
“I am going to the movies with your brother and we will have dinner before watching the movie.” she said and it made Tate angrier, she was rejecting his dinner invite but she was going with Charles to the movies…
Amy was so focused on getting all her work for the day done that she didn’t see it when Tate’s facial expression changed from neutral to fuming…
He left on his own and 30 minutes later Charles went to get Amy, as they were leaving the office Tate could see them from his car that was parked outside.
He saw how Amy couldn’t stop laughing at whatever Charles was saying, they were walking very closely to each other and he felt this anger inside him, he was angry that Jade would rather spend time with his brother than with him…
What does she see in Charles anyways?
He shouldn’t be reacting this way, it doesn’t matter to him if they are handing it out together and it shouldn’t matter…
It’s not like he wants to marry her or anything like that, if she chooses to get married to Charles then it means that he won't have to babysit some spoilt brat all his life...
Amy and Charles were done watching the movie and, on their way, out of the cinema they were talking about it, “I can’t believe that they killed him using his own sword” Amy said as they were talking…
“Yeah it is fair that he gets killed with his own sword, remember you live by the sword you die by the sword.” Charles said and something hit Amy, she didn’t live by a gun, but she was killed by one then maybe it's time she lived by one anyways…
