The intruder

918 Words
Kayleigh paused at the sound; ears raised as we sniffed the air. She scanned the area quickly and was almost convinced that we had been hearing things. There had been no smell, or even a rustle of the leaves in a little while. Could you have just imagine it? The likelihood of that was slim, with our alpha abilities, we can pick up more noises than your average wolf. She shook her head slightly; I know that was as much of a response as I would get from her. She was trying to throw her senses out. She knew she had heard the snap, and I could feel the hope that it was just one of our men wanting to try a sneak tactic. She had huffed slightly and put her nose to the ground, just as we were going to move on the wind shifted. When it shifted to an unfamiliar scent, hit our nose. A soft growl came to the surfaces, as our ears went back, and we waited to see what appeared from behind us. We stepped to the side just in time for the black fur to move past us. He yelped a little in surprise as we snatched him by his hind leg and flung him back toward the trees. Growling we turned toward him, this was a surprise. As we attempted to reach out to patrol in our mind, the intruder recovered and lunged at us. Letting out a startled yelp as he contacted our chest, throwing us off balance, we decided to roll into the momentum of the hit. As we rolled, we dug our nails into the flank of the enemy, taking him over top of us and springing him away as our we landed on our backs. Kayleigh scolded me softly, focus on the battle in front I rolled my eyes at her as I felt her move our legs under us to bring us back into a standing position. The intruder was snarling at us, trying to lung and find an opening. His dance reminded me of a wounded, scared animal. He was slashing and biting constantly, trying to find any opening that we had. It took a lot of focus to dodge and counter his attacks. Some blows landed, some were a complete waste of energy. After a few hits and misses, our enemy, as well as us, were starting to feel the fatigue of the battle. We seemed to conclude a stalemate at the same time, because the next lung from our intruder seemed desperate. He launched at our throats with such need for contact that Kayleigh swayed him away with our paw with ease. That didn’t stop him from launching a few more lungs. With each failed attempted he was growing more desperate. I could tell he was coming to the understanding that his life depended on me loosing. He took another launch at kayleigh’s throat, that as she dodged he stumbled a little. She swiped him on his flank, causeing him to sway more. He recovered quickly, eye bleeding, he turned to a full 360 to come back around again. Kayleigh barely missed his jaw as she rammed us forward, trying to knock him off balance. He only faltered slightly, before deciding that he was going to make a run for it. Taking off with surprised quickness he attempted to get to the other end of the opening. My alpha brain acted quickly, mind linking all the patrol in that quadrate. This intruder was not getting away from us, we dashed quickly after him. As we reached his heels, we tried to nip him. This wolf was quick, I could feel our jaw close onto nothing as we missed the full snap down on his foot. Growling in frustration, we nearly avoided a tree as he tried to change course. We could feel our wolves as they grew closer to the area we were running after him in. I think he could too, because fear flashed in his eyes as he looked back at us to see how far we were from him. Desperate wolves don’t think as well, we could use that to our advantage. Kayleigh, we need to make him move to the right She almost questioned it before remembering the net trapping we had set up for bunnies around here. There was one coming up soon, the intruder was only slightly off to the left for the trap. With a burst of energy at the perfect moment Kayleigh ran to his left side. As a response the intruder veered to his right, just as he steps within the trap trigger. With a snap, the net took up and with it the intruder inside. Skidding to a halt, panting Kayleigh looked up into the fearful eyes of the enemy. Growling, we sat and tried to collect ourselves as the patrol finally reached us. We could feel the anger of the battle still setting on our chest as I transformed back into human. Barking orders to my men on how to get him down without him getting away, I moved into the bushes for some hidden clothing. Once I was dressed, I returned to see they had successfully got the intruder down without an escape. Keep him close, and take him to the dungeon. We will find what we need from him. As the drug him away, I mind linked Micheal. As my beta, he had some practice with this kind of extraction.
