Memory lane

As I worked my way back to the clearing, tugging on the clothes my mate picked my heart sank. I know that it was silly, I know I shouldn’t worry about what this man had to say. So what if he rejected me, or wants to. I don’t need him. I’m the Luna Alpha, the only one of my kind. I wiped aggressively away the tear that escaped my eye as I push back into the clearing. Mother has not been kind in the mate portions has she? Took my first away, just to give me a second that already doesn’t want me. Stop that silly train of thought. You don’t know what he was going to say. You never gave him a chance. Kayleigh, I couldn’t, I just couldn’t I know sweetie, but give him a chance. I snorted at her as we made our way over to my family tent. I wanted, no needed, a piece of my mother right now. Anything that smelled like her would do. I just needed her scent. She was the type of Luna, no person, who just oozed calm. Her presence could change your mood in seconds. That is what I needed. I found her favorite shawl within seconds of entering the tent. I yanked it up and pulled it to my face. Her lilac smell was faint, but still there. As I inhaled deeply my shoulders began to unwind. I wasn’t even aware how tense they were until I felt them relax. I crawled into the cot, wrapping myself in her shawl for comfort. Closing my eyes I could hear her soft humming again. I was four again, wrapped in her arms as she runs her fingers in my hair. Humming my sleep song trying to calm my crying self after a nasty fall I took. Hush my sweet baby. Momma is here. Her soothing voice causes my wails to become whimpers as I start to calm down. They’re now my sweet girl. Everything is okay now see. She coos to me as I relax farther in her arms drifting out of my memory and returning to the tent. Oh how I miss her. A shift outside catches my attention and I shift a little from my position. Uncle Dev’s fingers come into view as he calls out to me. Come in Uncle. What can I do for you? He smiles warmly at me and hands me a warm cider as he gets comfortable in a seat near me. I sip on the cider and smile widely. I figured you needed that child. And now seeing you wrapped in Isadora’s shawl I know I was right. What is wrong? I huff at him. I forgot how perceptive my father’s best friend is. Nothing Uncle Dev. Just needed mother. It’s been a huge day. Well yes, yes it has. Shall we end it with a dinner? The alpha’s of Windfang and BlueTooth are asking to see you before we all head home. You know politics. Plus you are a gorgeous woman. He smiles and winks at me before wobbling up and heading to the entrance. Her favorite dress is in the bag. He nods to the bag hanging up on the mirror and I smile at him. Still just as good as he was years ago. Once the tent flap returns to its position I untwisted myself from my moms shawl. Strolling to the mirror I smile. I know which dress this is. I can see it now on her. The beautiful hour glass hold of midnight blue fabric. I take all of the beauty in as I unzip the bag. It is exactly how I remember it, midnight blue off the shoulder with a sheer, diamond sleeves. All the way down to the fade of midnight to sky blue at bottom. As I slide the dress down, it falls perfectly over the body and I clip a small amount of my hair back. I smile at my reflection and do a small twirl. I know I look just like her, all I need is her favorite rose necklace to compliment it. Once my outfit is assembled I glide out of the tent and smile at Micheal who is standing waiting. The car is down a ways from the clearing. We will head to the dinner, Dot is arranging to get your mother’s things and tent sent back to the pack. Oh what ever would I do without you too. You think of everything. We chat some more as we head to the car. Smiling and joking all the way to the dinner. I’m glad Micheal is there to “suffer” with me. Without him politics would truly drain me.
