Once in the woods, I slowed down and began to walk. I was drained and had very little energy left. As I walked, I could hear the animals move around but I was not strong enough to hunt one. Yes, human or shifter blood would be amazing right now, but I couldn't just go up to someone and take it. Plus, wolves and vamps don't get along, so here I am looking for a bunny or something with no energy left. There was a lake not too far from here and I might get lucky and catch a fish or something. Gosh, I hated times like this. I haven't been this desprate for food since I was a child. The lake wasn't a far walk, but with how slow I was moving, it was going to take forever. As I slowly walked, and I mean slowly, I heard something approaching and quickly turned around. A golden brown wolf with a white patch was approaching. I had no clue who it was, but if they wanted a fight I'd fight them. Not sure how successful in a fight I would be. "If your looking for a fight, then do your worse wolf," I said as I stood up straight. Suddenly, the wolf changed and there, standing before me butt naked, was the alpha wolf from the Childs pack. He began to laugh and said, "You look about ready to pass out." "I feel about ready to pass out." "So why are you in the woods?" He asked as he approached a tree with a hole in it and grabbed a pair of shorts out of it, then put them on. "I needed to feed and, since I don't have a blood donor or the ability to try and get one, figured I'd try my luck with animals. Plus, the men in suits didn't look too happy." He smiled. "The council can be a pain in the neck." As he talked, I leaned against a tree trying to conserve my energy. "You don't look too well." "I don't feel too well." "I don't mind if you feed off of me." I looked at him and narrowed my eyes. "Why?" "Because I need answers and you have them. The faster you feed the sooner I get them." I closed my eyes and sighed. "Fine." The alpha approached me and I eyed him. "Give me your arm." and he did. I brought it up to my mouth and sank my teeth in. He did not pull back or make any sound indicating he was in pain. I felt the warm liquid begin to hit my tongue and groaned. As I pulled the blood from his arm, I felt myself begin to feel better with each gulp of blood. After several minutes, I retracted my teeth and licked the punctured skin so it could heal. Even though I needed more blood, that was enough to hold me over until I could obtain more. "Thank you." "Your welcome. Now explain what is fully going on," he asked as he stepped away from me. "It's simple. The child is half vampire and something else. Wolf, human, witch, yatta yatta, but her vampire side is taking over. Because she is not one hundred percent vampire, that means she smells different as her vampire side takes over and the magic she admits is different. Its allouring to other creatures, more deadly creatures even you wolves have not seen before." The alpha placed his arms over his chest and said, "What do you mean by other creatures?" "Vampires do not get along with any creatures. Humans hate them because they drink their blood, wolves hate them because they drink human blood, witches hate them because of the magic they posse, but it's the other creatures vampires fear the most. The creatures that live in the shadows, the ones that watch. They are stronger, faster and more deadly then vampires, but they like changling blood." "What do you mean?" The alpha said with a deep tone as his eyes began to glow. I smiled and stretched. "Like I said before, Changlings smell and omit magic differently than other creatures. Because of this, their blood is more appealing to those creatures. Half alive and half dead. Strong magic but with life flowing through their veins. I could feel the child the moment she was within the pack. I woke up from a dead slumber because of the magic she admitting. Let's just pray she did not bring anything with her." "What could she bring and how do we stop it?" I closed my eyes and pushed the memories I had aside, allowing my vampire side to take ahold of me emotionally. "I have only seen one creature. A nightshade. They look like hollow humans, mainly bony with sagging skin. They love to consume things that are dead but they crave life, but they can't consume life without killing themselves. So a changling is both life and death and they crave that. There are worse creatures than that." " As of right now, should we be planning for an attack?" "I am not sure. I have only seen one once and the power they admitted was different. I am not sure if I can identify it again." He growled as he ran his hands through his hair. "What about after all this is done?" "She will never be one hundred percent safe, but the chance of attracting something is slim." "How many times?" "What do you mean?" I asked. "How many times have you been attacked?" "Once." "When you changed?" "No." "When?" "When my father died." I kept my voice in an even tone. "I will not push now but the council needs to be made aware of what is going on, plus the pack needs to prepare." I laughed. "Why do you think there are laws against mixing blood except with humans? Mixing leads to strange magic outputs leading to these creatures to come out from hiding. The council knows and they will want our heads. Mainly the childs." He growled and I walked towards him, patting him on the shoulder. "I will do my best to keep her safe." As I walked away from him he said, "I am sorry about your father, but didn't you say he was human?" "My adoptive father was human, my real father, let's just say he is a legend among the vampires and the council. My head is worth a lot and having a human father kept me safe." "Now you are no longer safe?" "I'm as safe as I choose to be. My father's identity can never be discovered." And with that said, I walked away towards the house. It was time to find my mate and check on the child, plus try and figure out if we were all safe.
