The whole day was a mess. Lilly and my mate were gone and the more everyone began to dig, the harder the dirt got. At one point, a small hole that was dug began to fill with dirt. I wanted answers. No, I needed them and only my mate would be able to provide them. My father, Alpha Sam, showed up hours ago and joined Alpha Tom along with our beta in a meeting with the council. They were not happy about what had taken place and at one point everyone could hear a loud roar. This whole situation was screwed up. As the sun began to set I could feel her, my mate. My wolf perked up and I began to look around but did not see her. 'Where is she?' he asked. 'Not sure.' Suddenly, I could not feel her anymore and my wolf whimpered. 'At least we know she is alive.' I said as I tried to comfort him. I just wanted to know where she was. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The child was asleep and would be asleep till tomorrow night, but until then I had to keep her safe. Her scent and the magic radiating off of her is enough to bring hunters and other creatures after us. If the pack kept digging and trying to get to her, the night shade hunters would find us. I had to wait to confront the pack until nightfall, having her take my blood. It has drained me, not including the magic I am using to protect us. I laid down next to the child and fell asleep. It had been awhile since I slept in a lair and for some reason it felt comforting. I didn't sleep for long because the pack was driving me mad. The constant digging and me trying to keep the lair concealed weakened me further. I knew the sun was starting to set but it was still too bright to go out. I would burn, but if I could get close enough to the pack house, I could quickly seek shelter and find food. I walked over to the corner of the lair that I knew was close enough to the pack house and began to walk up the steps. I designed this place in the event I needed to use it. As the darkness began to brighten, meaning the ground was opening up, my skin started to hurt. With the last bit of energy I had, I sped towards the back door of the house and went through it, allowing the ground to close back up, keeping the child safe. As I closed the door I felt this sense of love and excitement wash over me. I knew what it meant, my mate was out there but right now I could not find them. The sun was too bright and I was not strong enough to look for them, even though he would be able to heal and strengthen me the best. "I will find you," I whispered as I walked away. The house was dead silent until I heard someone shouting upstairs and feet began to move. I began to walk quickly towards the sounds and discovered that everyone was in my uncle's office. As I approached the door I could hear what they were saying and I was not happy. So, in true fashion, I burst through the door. I might look like hell and starving, but I'll be damned if they call me a demon. "What the hell," a man said as he laid eyes on me. "Tell your wolves to stop digging." I said with pain lacing my voice. "Zoey, what the hell is going on?" My uncle said as he approached me. I held my hand out, signaling him to stop. "Make them stop." The look of concern on his face hit me in the gut. "Tell them to stop," he said to his beta. I watched as the beta ran out of the door. Several moments later, the digging stopped and the pain radiating through my body disappeared. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before opening them. "We should talk," I said as I looked at everyone in the room. "Where is the child?" A man said as he looked at me with glowing yellow eyes. He must be the childs alpha. I needed to sit down due to being so drained but since there were no seats I sank to the floor and said, "She is safe for now." "She is in the ground," A man dressed in a black suit said. "She needs to be during her transition." "What does that mean," my uncle said. "The child is half wolf and half vampire. Her vampire side has come out but since she is half wolf she has to go through a transition." "The child is pure wolf. Her father is a wolf as is her mother," The man who had glowing eyes said. His eyes were now blue. "Can't be a halfling without mixed blood. And she she had mixed blood." "Are you a halfling?" Someone said. "Yes." I closed my eyes again and said, "I need to feed. Having her take my blood and trying to keep you out of my lair has weakened me." I opened my eyes and looked at my uncle. "Your father is human?" "My adoptive father was human, my biological father was a vampire." I stood up and looked at the room filled with people. "The child and I might not be natural but we are alive. I will kill anyone who tries to come after us. I need to feed and since the sun is about to set it is the perfect time. We will talk more soon but before instincts take over I need to take care of me." I opened the window next to me and jumped out of it. I could hear argueing break out in the room and ran towards the woods. Hopefully my mate would find me.
