Alto prepared dinner and a pot of hot coffee for the unknown girl. He put them in a trolley and rolled them to the elevator.
He was surprised when he saw Devlin standing by the door.
"Mr. Deville!"
"I'd like to check our visitors," Devlin said expressionlessly.
Alto just nodded. He opened the door carefully. They entered the room silently.
The sleeping area was separated by floor-to-ceiling transparent pink curtains. The wide bed could be seen. They were dumbfounded when they saw the girl floating on air horizontally.
"Mr. Deville..."
"Ssh!"
Devlin walked the distance to the bed.
"The little creature is a... fairy?" Alto followed and whispered to him.
"Yes," Devlin murmured thoughtfully. He was wondering why he did not find it strange. He did not feel scared...
They watched the fairy waved her wand back and forth. She directed it to the unconscious girl. There was a shimmering beam from the fairy and her wand.
Alto stared at the scene open-mouthed. He believed that fairies were just products of wild imaginations of writers. But now he had been seeing a real fairy, he was shocked.
"Mr. Deville..." He swallowed while his knees were shaking with fright.
"Don't be afraid! Look, she's healing the female!"
Alto gawked closely. The fairy had transferred the glittering glow on the levitating girl.
After a few seconds, she opened her eyes. She smiled at the fairy. Her body landed on the bed lightly. The glimmer was transferred back to the small creature.
The girl sat up slowly. She glanced around the room with wonder on her face. When she stood up, the bedsheet slipped. Her nakedness was uncovered.
Alto covered his eyes.
Devlin studied her body clinically. She was as slim as a stick. Her bosom was slight rounded. Her waist was small. Her hips were narrow. Her legs were long.
The female stretched her body. She talked softly to the fairy. She covered her mouth with shock. She looked around.
Her large eyes were green...
Devlin and the girl gazed at each other for a few seconds. The fairy had spoken and the girl glanced down at her body. Her eyes widened.
"Oh!" She jumped back on the bed and clutched the bedsheet on her. She talked to him but he could not understand.
"Do you recognize their foreign language, Alto?" Devlin asked the butler without removing his eyes at the girl.
"No, Mr. Deville. I only heard it now," Alto replied negatively. He pushed to food trolley forward. "Would you like to eat?" he asked in a loud voice. He mimed the act of eating.
The girl and the fairy glanced at each other. They nodded at the same time.
"Can you speak in our language, please?" Alto gained confidence when the fairy did him no harm.
The fairy thought for a second. Her wand began to shine.
"Yes! Do you understand me now?"
Alto's face lightened. "Yes, yes, I do!"
The fairy touched her wand to the girl. "Talk now, Nyx!" she smiled.
"Thank you for the food!" said the girl. She sneaked a glance to Devlin.
Devlin caught her peeking at him. He turned his back to give them privacy while eating. He walked to the windows and looked up the dark skies.
"Mmm, delicious!" the girl said appreciatively.
"It's hot!" the small voice squealed.
"Let me pour a little," Alto offered. "Here." He tilted the cup slightly.
"Thank you!" the fairy exclaimed after she took a sip of the soup.
Alto had enjoyed assisting the fairy. She ate the baby potato and drank soup alternately.
"You want to taste the roasted chicken?" Alto asked gently.
"Mother Moon doesn't eat meat!" the girl told him with a smile. "She eats flowers and vegetables!"
"Oh, a real fairy!"
"I'm real!" the fairy informed him defensively.
"No, no! I believe that you're real!"
Devlin returned when they were done eating. He sat on a chair facing the bed.
Alto had given the girl a robe to wear.
"Introduce yourselves," he ordered them tersely.
The girl frowned and stared at Devlin. She did not take kindly to his tone clearly.
"I am Shimermoon and her name's Nyx Sage," the fairy replied calmly. "What's yours?" She glanced at Alto.
"He is Mr. Deville and I am Alto."
"Devlin Tzevaot," he cut in curtly. "Why are you here?"
Nyx stood up and walked toward the writing desk. She switched on and off the table lamp. "What year is it now?" she asked uneasily.
Alto answered her.
Nyx looked at him open-mouthed. Her green eyes were searching.
"Oh, Mother Moon! We are many hundred years away from Mother and Father!" she cried to the fairy.
"Why? What year were you from?" Alto questioned them.
The fairy answered him.
"What? How did you come here?"
"Through the talisman! Where is it, Nyx?"
"I--I lost it!" Nyx responded in a small voice. Her white pearly teeth chewed her plump red lips.
Devlin stared at her mouth.
"No! Maybe, it's in your pocket!"
"Her clothes are in the washing machine! Let me get it!" Alto said helpfully.
"I'll go with you!"
When Alto and Shimermoon was gone, a heavy silence shrouded the room.
Devlin was the first to speak. "Are you telling the truth?" He still had his doubts. Many people had thought of different tricks.
"What do you mean?"
"You came from above my head. You even hit my nape. Who knows you were just waiting for my appearance at one of the eaves of the castle?"
"Castle?" she pounced on the word. "This is a castle?"
"Don't change the subject! Who sent you? What do you need from me?"
"Huh?" Her face was pondering his questions. "You sound like Kallikrates!" she exclaimed. She began inching from the desk.
Devlin strolled towards her. "Who is Kallikrates? Your boss?"
"No, no! He's an ex-suitor!"
"Don't talk rubbish! Just tell me who sent you!" Devlin was near to her. She was motionless as she stared up at his frowning face.
'He is tall, lean, and gorgeous! He is my ideal man!' Nyx whispered to herself.
"Here are your clothes, Nyx! Come! Search it!"
