I sat down beside River, and Rafe jumped up on me.
"Sage, you and River should put out the fire and retire. You both need sleep," Rafe said softly.
I nodded, got up, and dumped two buckets of water to douse the fire. I wanted to ensure I used enough water to soak the entire area. River used a stick to stir the embers and ashes, spreading the water throughout the fire's remnants. Once satisfied that the fire was out, River buried the ashes. He wanted to ensure there were no visible embers before entering the house.
Rafe and Seraphina entered the house with us. Everyone was still fast asleep. Quietly, we went to my room, and the cats stopped outside the door.
