I gave her an annoyed look, and Courtney looked hurt. "You told me you wanted to get to know me," she said softly, disappointed. I felt bad. I did want to spend time and get to know her. But, right now, I yearned for the prospect of a restful night's sleep, making this conversation an unwelcome intrusion that threatened to delay the much-needed rest I craved. "I'm sorry, Mom, I want to spend time with you. I'm just SO tired," I apologized. "I understand, and I promise not to stay long. But we do need to talk," Courtney said. I nodded and moved over on the bed so that she could sit beside me. Rafe and Seraphina smiled and moved to the end of the bed to give Courtney more room to sit beside me. I put my head on Courtney's shoulder, leaning into her, and she smiled down at me. This was n
