Hazel tossed and turned in bed that night, her thoughts plagued by Ace’s silence. The familiar comfort of her room did little to ease the turmoil inside her. The walls seemed to close in, and the darkness felt suffocating. She tried to push away the thoughts gnawing at her mind, telling herself she was overthinking, but the unease wouldn’t go away. Ace still hadn’t answered any of her calls or messages, and the longer he stayed silent, the more her worry turned into something darker something she didn’t want to admit. Hazel was scared, scared that the connection she cherished so deeply was slipping away. And the worst part? She didn’t know why. She had tried to be understanding.
