Transfiguration

"So, what are we going to do for an entire hour?" Draco asked as we crossed the stone garden, making our way up towards the castle doors. "What do you mean?" I asked, as I glanced sideways at him. He stuck his hands deep into his pockets. "Well, neither of us are required to take Transfiguration since we both recieved OWLS-" "We are definitely going. Every class..." I snapped. "Hermione, stop...." Draco said as he took my hand and pulled me back. I rolled my eyes and then looked at him. "This is non-negotiable, Draco. Look." I crossed my arms. "When this pregnancy starts, the only thing standing between us and getting everything we need to be comfortable and giving our child the best-" I paused as I let that sink in. Our child.... my and Draco's child. I took a deep breath. "We need the points. The only way to get the points is by having the best grades in classes. The more classes, the more points." "Points..." I lowered my hand to my hips, "Like I said, non negotiable." "So, what time does Transfiguration begin?" He asked with a perky smile. I reached out and impatiently snatched his hand before moving up his sleeve to check the time. "Five minutes. Lets go, Draco." I said, releasing his arm and continuing towards the castle. "We absolutely can not be late." It took us 2 minutes to run the remainder of the way to the castle and another 2 to take the stairs to the 4th floor. The second we sat down in the classroom Professor McGonagall entered. She made her way up to the front of the classroom. There she rose her wand. "Welcome to NEWT level Transfiguration. If you have an older sibling who has told you what to expect for this year, throw those set thoughts out the window because things are about to change." Like old times, I shot my hand in the air. "Yes Miss Granger." I slowly lowered my hand back down to rest on the desk. "Excuse me, but you said things will change. Exactly, how?" "I was just about to get to that." She turned to address the class at large and then began speaking. "In the past this year would be like the rest. Studies, studies, tests, and more studies. But after recent events the Board has decided that the final year should be hands on." This reminded me of 5th year with Umbridge who wanted us to learn about the theory of Defense Against the Dark Arts instead of actually learning how to properly defend ourselves. Now things have changed and the Board of Governers know that in the real world, like Harry once quoted, you don't get a do-over. If you screw up you or someone else is dead. "We will start off the first class on technique. It is common knowledge that the power of spells depend on proper technique. The flick of your wrist or the arc of your flourish could make or break the steady flow of power, meaning-" She paused, waiting for the class to answer. "A diluted spell." I said. "10 points to Malfoy house. A diluted spell can cause great trouble. Especially fo r those that choose to take up a future career at the Ministry of Magic." She picked up her wand and walked over to a table that held several familiar items. The items were a match, a mouse, a beetle a bird and a teapot. I knew these items were things we had transformed during our classes in years one through three. I glanced at Draco who seemed to be unnaturally focused. This brought a smile to my face. Then I turned back to Professor McGonagall as she walked down the line of items, transforming them into the items we had throughout our years, then she walked back, effortlessly, returning them to their rightful items. "These items, each pair will get their own. You will get one try to transform them, then you will be graded by the quality and transformation time." McGongall waved her wand causing the items to multiply and then flourished her wand, sending them to each pair in the room. "Begin." I turned to Draco. "Would you like to go first?" I asked him. He gave me a smile, aimed his wand at the first and waved his wand. I watched as the measley beetle turned into a bright shiny button. "Your turn, sweetheart." The corner of his mouth quirked upwards. I rose my wand and waved it over the match, it turned so quickly I didn't see the transformation as I had blinked. When a shiny silver needle sat before us Draco moved to the mouse and then I did the bird before he finished with the teapot. Once we finished we set our wands down and waited for the rest of the class to complete their set tasks. Only three people in the class scored perfect marks for this half of the session and only Draco and I scored perfectly on the second half which required us to transform everything back to its original state. It baffled me that people were having so much trouble with this simple task. This was skills that first through third year student were taught. And these were 7th years. When class had finished everyone gathered at the front to gather their point books. This was like a muggle check book, only the first ten pages had lines where our points were written in and signed by our professors. So far, Draco and I had 110 points. It made me curious to how much this would get us when it came to household items. I stuffed the point book into my bag and then we made our way to the next class. Defense Against the Dark Arts. The second I entered the class Krum's eyes found me. He gave me a sweet smile, that cause my cheeks to burn red. I quickly turned away and made my way to a seat, Draco joining me seconds later. When class began we started by going through refreshment practice on simple spells we had done in our past year. Surprisingly, most of the class was pretty decent but like always, Draco I were near perfect. I was lucky that we didn't have to train on any Boggarts or I would've probably fumbled under the pressure. At the end of the class Draco and I had earned another 100 points to our point book. Now it was time for our free period. After our free period was lunch followed by our Muggle Studies class. We were not allowed to eat lunch at the Great Hall as part of our Muggle Studies class so we returned to our house in the miniature home developement. "I'll get started on lunch and you can go change." I said as I made my way to the kitchen. For our Muggle Studies class, part of our credit was showing up dressed in muggle attire. In the previous years when I wasn't required to wear my school robes I opted for a shirt and jeans. This year I wouldn't be as I had an entirely new wardrobe, curtosey of my mother who thought a day of clothes shopping would help bring me out of the depression I was in after the War of Hogwarts. Before I started staying at Harry's place I would lay holed up in my bedroom. Unmoving for long periods of time. So in turn my mother thought shopping would fix that. Only it didn't. So I wound up laying holed up in my bedroom with an entirely new wardrobe. For lunch I pulled out the left over sun dried chicken, spinach, tomatoes, onions and pepper jack cheese and made panini sandwiches. I moved the plates to the table just at Draco came down the stairs dressed in grey slacks an off-white button down and a matching vest. "You look dashing." I said as he took a seat at the table. "Thank you," he grinned as I pushed his plate towards him. I watched him take a bite out of his sandwich and basically melt. "This sandwich is amazing, Hermione!" he beamed. I smiled before taking my first bite. Just like he said it was amazing. It was hard to be lady like while I ate this sandwich because of how the flavor burst in my mouth and overwhelmed and tantilized my taste buds. As I continued to attack my sandwich I gained a few amused looks from Draco. When I finally finished he handed me a napkin in which I proceeded to clean my mouth. I glanced at the clock on the wall and saw we had a little over an hour before our next class. I took this time to head upstairs to get dressed out of my robes and into my muggle clothes. I dressed into dark grey slacks, a powder blue button down and a grey sweater vest. I slipped into black dress shoes and switched out my school things for my next class from my brown satchel to my sleek black one. After I put my hair up I headed downstairs. Draco met me at the bottom of the stairs. The grin on his face reassured me that my outfit went well together. Though I couldn't take credit for the get-up I was wearing since my mother picked it out. Since this was my final year before I started out on my career path she thought she would business-lady-ify my entire wardrobe. "You look nice, Hermione." "Thank you. Um, I was about to go do some reading did you want to join me?" Draco slowly shook his head. "Actually, I was thinking maybe we we go for a walk and talk a bit." I giggled, "A stroll through the neighborhood." "And then maybe a carriage ride through the grounds." He teased. "Definitely better than a book don't you think?" My automatic thought to his question was no. In my eyes, there was nothing I could do that was better than a book. But I smiled and took his hand as he offered it and we left the house. We walked through our small neighborhood before making our way through the castle grounds. When we were nearing the end of our hour before class we made our way to the Muggle Studies classroom. We took a seat beside each other at the front of the classroom and waited for everyone else, including Professor Tonks arrived. Then class began. "So, how was everyone's first charm?" She asked. I turned to look over my shoulder and saw several students glancing around the room, apparently nervous from the memories of the charm. I turned back to the front of the class and then rose my hand. "Miss. Granger." "I was just curious about how the charm works." "The charm works by affiliation. It feeds off of emotions that you have feel for your partner so the closer you are to the person you are charmed with the stronger it will be." She responded. I glanced sideways at Draco and saw his staring at me. I could only imagine what his charmed session was about. Mine... mine began as me fearing that Draco was going to turn on me and harm me only to make wild love to me. I easily understood this as some part of me feared that everything Draco said to me was a show. That one day he might turn on me and kill me. But the other part of me wants him to love me and for it to be true. Because that part of me loves Draco too, or atleast is learning to love him. "So, I will be giving out journals to both you and your partner in which you will be keeping track of the progress of this project. In about another week you will, depending on how sensitive your body is to the charm, begin to experience morning sickness and some of the early symptoms of pregnancy." As that last word she spoke rolled off her tongue I immeadiately moved my hand to rest on my stomach. It was flat now but as I sat in my chair I knew a very powerful charm that brewed inside me would soon change that. After a month or two we would be taking care of a child. Then it hit me and I rose my hand again. "Yes, Miss Granger?" "What happens when the school year ends? What happens to the children?" "The charm ends and they disappear." I sat back in my seat as I thought about what she was saying. After being pregnant with, giving birth to and raising the infant to its childhood, we would basically be waking up one day to every memory and parental experience being as if it never existed. As if it was just a dream. What if I fell in love with our offspring? What if I couldn't just let little him or her go?
