NATHANIEL
When he woke up his sisters and the vampire were gone. The clearing was a mess, and their fire had already died to embers at this point in time. Nathaniel was scared, downright terrified, but not for himself. He had no idea where his sisters were right now, and with the vampire missing he could not help but fear the worst.
As he searched around the camp, he was startled by a groan of pain, Nathaniel ran over to see his father curled up in pain as his wounds pumped blood onto the leaf covered forests floor. Nathaniel helped him up, not caring for the blood that was now staining his hands.
“Dad? Hey dad wake up, tell me where it hurts.”
But there was no answer, pain or no pain at the moment his father was incapable of giving any answers of even opening his eyes. Nathaniel looked around with panicked eyes as he tried to figure out his next mode of action. The clearing was exposed, and Nathaniel had no idea how much time he had before the nocturnal hunters of the forest made their way here. There was no time to waste though.
Nathaniel picked his father up and placed him on his back. The ease with which he had carried his father surprised Nathaniel, but he knew his stats were quite increased so things that were quite impossible for him to do in the past, both in real life and the game, would now be a lot easier.
Nathaniel ran through the forest for about five minutes before he found himself standing before the druid tree. He did not know how, but this was where his feet had led him. At that point it made Nathaniel remember a phrase from the bible his mom really liked a lot. She always said “God directs the path of the righteous.”
Nathaniel was not in the mood to worry about religion, but the fact that he came here subconsciously meant there was a meaning to it. Zion was game unlike any other, it ran by its own rules, but in the end it felt pretty much like reality, which made the mumbo jumbo, hocus pocus a little more real than earth.
“Please help, save my father.”
At first the tree was silent, there was no light shining from within it, but then it started glowing, and this time a little more intensely than Nathaniel imagined. Five vines grew from around the three and wrapped themselves around his father’s body. They lifted him from Nathaniel’s back, and brought him towards the tree. Then the vines wrapped themselves tighter and in more loops until his father’s entire body was covered with them. It was like he was in a cocoon.
The wrapped body of his father was placed right on the trunk of the tree, and Nathaniel watched as the vine which wrapped his dad, merged with the ones of the tree’s trunk. It was as if he had become one with the druid tree. When he saw all this happening, Nathaniel almost shouted for the tree to stop. He was not so stupid as to have any blind faith in a tree, but any distractions on his part might cost his father his life, so he had to trust the tree.
The tree then released a vine that came in contact with Nathaniel’s forehead. Then it began to pulse at different frequencies, sending the message it wanted to into Nathaniel’s head.
“You want me to help you save someone, in exchange you will heal my father, and tell me where the vampire took my sister’s.”
The tree pulsed once as if to affirm Nathaniel’s deductions, but Nathaniel had a few misgivings.
“But I can’t do anything for you now, it might be too late for my sisters if I do what you want first. I can’t even run back to town and ask for help, because I might not get back here in time to save them.”
The tree pulsed faster this time, with its vine even subtly vibrating. If it was not a tree, most people would say it’s mannerisms are really so human like.
“I can go save my sisters, and you will heal my father. But I just have to promise after everything blows over I will come back and keep my own end of the bargain.”
The tree gave it’s answer, which made Nathaniel so overwhelmed with gratitude he grabbed onto its vines.
“Thank you so much, I promise if I don’t die, I will come back and do whatever it is you ask of me.”
The vine gave off a bright light this time, before it wrapped its vines around Nathaniel’s head. Suddenly he began to have flashed of images, in his vision of those images Nathaniel traveled through and deeper into the forest, he went past multiple ruins, three of which were currently occupied by creatures of the forest. In his vision he kept on heading north until he came to a river. The river was clear and bright even under the moonless sky, it rushed and flowed with such rapid intensity, it would be foolish for anyone to wade through it, even with a boat Nathaniel doubted moving will be easy.
Then he started moving west along the river bank, he saw tribes of creatures he could only call fish men living around the bank of the river. And within the river itself were creatures Nathaniel never imagined could be found this far inland. It was then he decided to measure the length of the river, in his visions he had only focused on one side of the river, so he did not know how wide it was on the other side.
When Nathaniel decided to take a look he had to suck in a breath of air, he had no idea how wide this river was, calling it a lake would have been apt, but this was a flowing tributary, if he did not squint a bit, it was hard to see the other side of the river. The river was wide and long enough to accommodate the creatures he saw beneath its surface, at least there was an explanation for the whale.
After moving west for about fifteen minutes The vision brought Nathaniel to the sight of a stone bridge that arched over the river. It was not in the best of shape right now, but from where he was standing Nathaniel saw that the bridge led over the river to an opening of a valley. To mountains stood side by side, and on the face of both mountains, facing each other was a statute of something Nathaniel was quite familiar with. Those were the Eyo masquerades of Nigeria. Specifically, from Lagos state.
Nathaniel was stumped, He was pretty sure that this was Eyo. The spirit guards of the old kings of Lagos. The statues were even painted, though over the years the paint had chipped away under the wear and tear of the elements, however they looked the same. The statues looked like a person who wore a bed sheet over his head, covering his entire frame from head to toe, then topped it with a wide brim hat. The statues were also holding their signature staffs. It was quite a surprise seeing them here, as they were part of the history and traditions of a world that was about to end, or already ended. It seemed Zion was trying to find ways to keep the history, legacies and traditions of earth. That way, the planet never truly dies, but lives on within the people who survived, in their memories and in monuments like this.
But David did not really care about the statue at the moment, his vision took him into the valley, showing him a sight he had never expected to see before. Houses, streets, towers, market, schools, and even farms. It was an entire kingdoms hidden within the valley, and it was all abandoned. Most of the buildings were in disarray, left with scars of a previous conflict. This was an entire civilization, a forgotten civilization.
But without time to properly inspect everything he saw, the vision finally brought him to a stop in front of a manor. David did not need any confirmation but the stench of death and blood in the air. He had no idea how he was able to smell in a vision, but he was actually doing it. The vision could not go past the threshold of the manor, but it was all the help he needed. His sisters were in that building. And then the vision drew back, and he was left standing in front of the druid tree once again.
“It’s too far away, I won’t be able to make it in time.?”
Even if Nathaniel had to run all the way there, it would take him seven to almost twelve hours to get to the valley alone, much less the manor that was hidden within it. But it seemed the tree had an answer for his predicament, as one of its leaves glowed and fell to the ground. As soon as the leaf touched the ground, it turned into a six-foot-tall and five feet long lion.
“Rooaarrr”
Nathaniel was so startled by the sudden appearance of the lion, much less it’s roar that he fell back on his ass in fright. The lion was majestic, but very different. Its skin was blueish green, and its mane looked ethereal, like a mass of wind and smoke with wisps of lightening running through it.
Then the tree pulsed again, and an exquisitely crafted hilt, with a hand guard fashioned to look like the open mouth of roaring lion came from within its body. The hilt dropped right in front of Nathaniel and the tree pulsed as if telling him to pick it up.
Nathaniel wary about receiving bladeless hilts from lion birthing trees, picked up the hilt. Almost immediately he was overwhelmed by the rush of power that flowed through his body. The handle immediately shot out a long sword. It was a meter long, and on its blade there were symbols of lions, trees, mountains, and swirls that Nathaniel suspected looked like a depiction of the wind.
Then the sword shook and became a staff with a lion’s head. The entire body of the staff still had the same drawings and symbols as the sword, but it had one metal ring. The metal ring was green in color, and when Nathaniel touched it, it was rough to the touch, as if it was a plant or a tree.

Nathaniel was a bit surprised by the sudden turn of events, or how different things now seemed to be. He was about to say something when the lion whose entire jaw could swallow Nathaniel two times over, took a bit out of his hand.
“Arghh”
Nathaniel was shocked, but the wound that appeared on his arm healed just as fast as it was inflicted. He was about to complain before he felt the connection. The lion was curious, like a baby. Which was to be expected considering she was just born mere moments ago.
The tree flashed again, and a whole host of explanation was given to Nathaniel.
“Thank you for all your help. But right now I have a vampire to hunt and sisters to rescue. I’ll be back.”
