Family dinners are something that are mandatory in this household of mine and at times I challenged this. I wasn't one for talking about the day's events with my parents, mostly because I found it pointless to give them a run down of my life. They already didn't like the fact that I was the "it girl" on Gigi's site since they claimed to everyone I was the perfect daughter.
My parents wanted to keep a certain persona on for the outside world. They wanted to put on a show to the rest of the world that we had our s**t together and that everyone was perfect. I didn't and still don't understand why this mask was so important to them and I made it clear to them.
Having my face pasted all over the schools gossip website didn't help their case. They would often talk me up, tell others that I was that of a perfect daughter. One look at Gigi's site and that was the end of that mask. I wasn't perfect nor do I want to be, what's the fun in being perfect anyway? My imperfections is what made me interesting and utterly fun to be around. My imperfections is what landed me on the schools gossip website in the first place.
"How was school today?" My mother asked. She forked a steamed broccoli into her mouth while I texted Blair under the table. "Kendall!"
"Yeah?" I snapped my head up coming into eye contact with the woman that birthed me eighteen years ago.
"You know the rules, no phones at the table." My mother raised an eyebrow at me to show her displeased attitude towards my choice to text at the dinner table.
"Speaking of phones, Kendall was all over Gigi's website today!" My sister Kayla piped in, darting my eyes to her and narrowing my sight I saw a smirk appear on her lips.
"Kendall!" My mother looked at my dad with again another disapproving look. Sighing silently at Kayla who looked very satisfied with herself I ran I hand through my curled hair.
"Kendall if we haven't told you we have told you a million times! Do you think a nice college will be willing to take on a girl who is as wild as she appears to be on social media? A young woman should not be the hot topic of a high school gossip column!" My mother ripped into me with those dark brown eyes I had acquired from her.
Kayla took every possible opportunity she could to rat me out to my parents. She thrives on being the "less problematic" child of the three of us siblings. I hated being the oldest for one reason and one reason only, my mother would always point out that I needed to be the example. That because I'm oldest Kayla and Sammie will look up to me and for that I needed to be a good example.
"What did you do this week?" My dad asked me pressing his fingertips against his forehead. I felt like we had this conversation weekly with all the gossip that floated around Gigi's site.
"I just pulled a prank and-" I began to explain but again was cut off by Kayla. Snapping my head to the side to get a better view of her I rolled my eyes in annoyance.
"She was at Harry's last night!" Kayla went on to add as if she didn't already get me in enough trouble.
"Kendall what did we say about all your behavior last week? I feel like a broken record!" My mother tossed her blonde hair out of her face and pinched the bridge of her nose.
"Mom, what's wrong with having a little fun? It didn't hurt anyone!" I defended thinking back to the good time Blair and I had last night and the rewarding walk of shame I saw Harry take this morning to his desk.
"It hurt your reputation Kendall!" My mom tried pushing at me causing me to slump in my chair and sigh heavily.
"Okay mom." I pushed my chair away from the table about to excuse myself. "I'm not hungry anymore." I took my plate still half full of dinner and stood up.
"Where are you going?" My father asked turning to face me. Walking to the kitchen to wash my plate I stopped and turned to everyone at the table who's eyes where glued to me.
"I'm going to clear my plate and then I'm going to bed." I told them continuing my path to the sink where I would clear my plate.
"What are we going to do with her?" I heard my mother converse at the dinner table with my father. I knew Kayla was thrilled to be hearing my parents argue about me.
The only person I didn't despise at the table was little Sammie. Sammie was five years old and tried to please my mother as much as possible even though. I could see sometimes she would rather be out doing what five year olds usually did. Going past them once again to get down the hall where my bedroom sat I looked as Sammie sat quietly eating and keeping to herself.
Laying up in bed listening to Halsey, my song was soon interrupted by a call made by Blair. Hurrying to answer I pressed the phone up to my ear to hear Blair greeting me.
"Hey girlie!"
"Hey." I said flatly not in the mood to be talking to anyone really.
"What's up with you?" Blair asked but most likely already knew what was up. I only really got upset over my parents, family matters was the only thing that brought me down.
"Kayla told my mom about the Gigi post today." I rolled my eyes just thinking about Kayla opening her big mouth to my parents.
"Ah shit... What happened?"
"My mom told me that it's hurting my reputation. It's stupid I know. I just don't understand why my mom cares so much about putting up this fake facade!" I blew off steam to Blair knowing that she was always there to listen to matter what. Blair and I had been best friends since 6th grade and ever since then we had been close.
"Just think, soon when graduation comes we can get out of here." Blair cheered me up. We had told each other once graduation comes we would move out to Santa Monica.
"Yeah... So anyway what's up with you?" I asked her not feeling like venting anymore. Maybe Blair could tell me some good news or at least crack a joke or two to cheer me up.
"Oh yeah right! Are you up for going out tonight?" I looked over at my wall that was covered in various posters of artists and bands I liked. I loved this wall and turned to look at it whenever I needed to chill and take myself out of a situation.
"Diane would never let me leave, I'm already in enough trouble." I huffed wanting to take the offer handed to me.
"Hello where is Kendall? Is she there?" Blair inquired waiting to get a reaction from me.
"Blair..." I trailed rolling onto my stomach and putting my free hand on my cheek.
"Look Harry and the boys are meeting at Louis' house to play some games. I'll be there to pick you up in 10!" Blair insisted hanging up before I could even get out any answer.
Standing up I went to my closet to find a pair of lace up shoes to wear. Picking out some black vans I tied them before opening up my window and climbing out. Ducking to make sure I was unseen to the others still at the dinner table I ran to the gate and closed it behind me once I had made an escape.
Strolling towards the sidewalk in the front yard a waited for Blair's headlights to flashed up the street. I had figured that I was already in trouble so what was another wrong doing at this point. I might as well pile on the trouble since my parents and I weren't on good terms.
Looking up from my feet at the noticeable headlights I saw Blair with the windows rolled down. "Get in b***h!"
Opening up the passenger door I slid into the seat and closed the door only to have Blair drive off down the street towards Louis' house. The good thing about all this was our inner circle of friends all lived in the same neighborhood. Just a few turns and we would arrive at Louis' house shortly.
"Are you ready to have some fun?" Blair questioned trying to get me into the mood of game night.
"Definitely, I need a break from my family for awhile." I breathed seeing Harry's black Land Rover in the distance. Looking over at Blair we began chuckling over the sight of Harry's car that was now stripped of our plastic wrap work.
Blair pulled to the curb parking before pulling the keys and stepping out of the car. Meeting me on my side I looked at the two cars parked in the oversized driveway. I saw Harry's car and Liam's car parked on the driveway.
Knocking on the door I heard the boys laughing on the other side of the door. This brought a smile to my lips hearing the loud laughing of all the boys.
"Well well well, come on in!" Louis greeted us while Liam, Niall, and Harry say in the couch laughing among themselves.
This is where things would get fun.
