Prologue
5 years before
I paced up and down my office floor, trying my best to close this business deal with some stubborn home owner. The very same home owner that I had been spending nearly two months, trying to convince her that selling her house to me would benefit her tremendously and now she finally agreed to sell me the piece of property. I didn’t need the property so much, rather I needed the land on which the house was to build on. My massive mall right in the center of Hollywood would be the biggest one built yet, where housewives that had nothing to do with their day but to shop till they rendered their husbands broke and stripped of all their cash.
My business associate gave me the great news and I almost jumped from where I was standing, because I finally got what I wanted, like I always do. The view from my office window gave me an overview of Hollywood where the rich and famous lived, where only the brave and rich could survive. Looking at the success I’ve become thrilled me, everyone bowed down to me and the ladies loved me and there wasn’t a thing in the world that could keep me down.
There was a knock at my door and I instinctively knew that was my secretary, because she’s the only one with that familiar knock. Added to the fact that I told her that I didn’t want any visitors coming into my office today.
“Come in Angel!” I yelled at her and hopefully she could hear me. I gave her a week off to get her surgery and if she wasn’t fixed by now, I’d have no choice but to fire her because in my office I have no space for mediocre people.
“Excuse me Mr. Richfield but you have a visitor sir”
“And who may I ask is it?”
I asked her, whilst I kept typing away on my phone looking for new business ventures to invest into.
“Well its Lisa sir”
I couldn’t remember a time where I was this annoyed in my life. A week ago the paparazzi caught me cheating on her with a super model and ever since then Lisa has been breathing down my neck and looking up on everything that I do. Apparently the chocolates and dozens of red roses that I had sent to her place wasn’t enough and to top it off, I brought her a twelve carrot ring and still she refuses to let me breath in peace.
“Okay let her in”
“Okay sir”
I watched as Angel walked away and for a moment I was tempted to place her onto my table and have my way with her. But I decided against it, it happened once and I was sure not going to repeat it especially with Lisa on her way to my office. Before I could get back to working onto my computer Lisa barged into my office and began looking around.
“Where is she?”
She asked me frantically to the point where even I began wondering if I had actually hidden something or someone in my office.
“Who are you looking for if I may ask?”
“Don’t play dumb with me Maximus!”
She yelled at me but fortunately I knew just what to do and when to do it, I walked up to her and ran my hands down her face which made her relax for a while.
“Sweet heart I know I hurt you but that was a mistake and it will never ever happen again. I’ve cut all ties with the girl, please believe me sweetheart”
Her face began to soften but knowing Lisa well, that wasn’t the end of it all. It might just be the tip of the iceberg.
“Prove to me that you really care for me”
I raised my eyebrow knowing damn well that she probably wanted another priceless jewelry or the latest designer bag.
“What is it that my beautiful girlfriend want?”
“I want us to get married. Yes I want to become Mrs. Richfield”
My feet firmly planted to the ground trying my best not to fall over, because what she was asking of me was almost impossible. I hope that she was joking but apparently she wasn’t because the look on her face certainly wasn’t a joke it was all serious.
Lisa and I weren’t high school sweetheart of some sort. I am the only heir to my father’s legacy and multi million dollar company and Lisa is her father’s only daughter and heiress to all his wealth. We met in a charity function that I was attending and just like that we clicked and what made it even great was that my father and hers were business partners.
I guess our parents thought our relationship as a way to merge both companies to become one. At the beginning I went with it I mean who wouldn’t want a long legged, slender blond heiress hanging on his shoulder right?
“Look Lisa, ask for anything I mean anything other than this”
“I’ve been dating you for almost a year now! I’m sick and tired of being the laughing stock of all my friends. I want to be a housewife!”
She yelled at me loud enough to make my ear drums hurt. Lately that’s been Lisa, screaming her head off to get her point across. And I couldn’t really picture Lisa as a house wife, I mean she could burn water. Her life was filled with parties, paparazzi and showing up a charity events pretending to care for their causes.
“Lisa let’s think about this darling”
“It’s either we get married or I’m leaving you this instant!”
I couldn’t picture her leaving me at all, my relationship and Lisa wouldn’t be classified as one made in heaven rather its one made just in the fires of hell. I couldn’t even imagine what my father would say if I had to let him down once more.
“Okay?”
“Okay what?”
“We’ll get married”
“Are you being serious?”
“Yes I am. Now let’s go and get you a engagement ring”
Lisa shrieked with excitement and kissed me more times than I could count. I carried my legs that suddenly felt heavy after I had agree to her ridiculous demands. Whilst walking out of my building everyone noticed my displeasure… everyone except my darling Lisa.

Walking out of the Tiffany’s jewelry shop with my new fiance holding my hand, glowing like a full moon. The 12 carat diamond ring on her finger seemed to be doing just what she wanted. Luckily for us the jeweler had made a special design that had been standing there, too expensive for most people to afford and luckily for me nothing was too expensive for me to afford.
“Honey, do you realize that none of my friends have engagement rings this big?”
“Lisa shouldn’t you be satisfied with the fact that you’re engaged and not with what your friends have?”
“Yeah I am happy, but just imagine how jealous they’d all be”
I rolled my eyes at her because according to Lisa it was all about the who was talking about her. Out of the blue paparazzi appeared with their flashing cameras and they hauled questions at us.
“Mr. Richfield are you and Lisa finally tying the knot?”
“Mr. Richfield what have you to say about the allegations that you’re sleeping with a model?”
I couldn’t answer them all so we just pushed through until the bodyguards made way for us to get through.
We sat in the car in silence and Lisa kept looking at her ring like it was the only thing in the world while I slowly got irritated.
“Lisa do you happen to know anything about the paparazzi just conveniently showing up after we brought the engagement ring?”
“Yeah I called them”
She uttered those words like it was nothing, knowing quite well how I like my privacy.
“Why would you do that? You should have waited for us to announce it to our families first and then to the public”
She turned to me suddenly not looking so happy at all.
“Look here Max, I’m sick and tired of you going around in Hollywood with your cheap w****s all over the place”
Our argument continued for a few minutes and I had finally had enough of her nuisance.
“You know what Lisa this engagement is over as soon as we get off this car we’re through”
The shock on her face was priceless, therefore she continued to threaten me and it felt as if time stopped and there was a sound of screeching tyres and metal crashing and I was being thrown round in my car.
**
My eyes opened and the surrounding were all white and everything seemed blurry. The sound of a machine beeping and not long Lisa appeared by my side, smiling with her eyes swollen and saying something but I couldn’t make it out as I drifted back to sleep
