Chapter Fourteen Faelen’s POV As Mary and I entered my room, I couldn’t shake the emotions still spinning inside me. I sat down on the edge of my bed, feeling drained, while Mary settled on the other end. The silence that had grown between us felt heavy, but comforting in a strange way. I didn’t know why, but I felt like I could trust her. I didn’t want to be alone with my thoughts, so I started to talk. “I don’t even know where to begin,” I said, my voice only a whisper. “He made me… he made me clean all the toilets in the estate. And as if that wasn’t enough for him. He… he forced his… in my mouth, and used me like I was some common w***e, just there to please him.” I said, allowing the tears to flow. Mary’s face softened with sympathy, and she reached out to squeeze my hand. “I’m so sorry, Faelen,” she said, her voice full of concern. “But I want you to understand something… what you’ve been through, it’s not your fault. It never was.” I felt tears gathering up in my eyes again, but I blinked them back furiously. “But why? Why is he like this? He’s supposed to be the Alpha, supposed to protect the people under him, not… not this. What did I do to deserve this?” I let the questions flow. Mary let out a small laugh. “You’re asking the wrong questions, Faelen,” she said, shaking her head slightly. “It’s not about what you did. It’s about who he is. You haven’t met the real Alpha Hunter just yet.” Her words caught my attention, and I looked at her curiously. “What do you mean?” I asked, surprised. She smiled sadly again, almost as if she pitied me. “As much as he’s handsome and powerful, his heart is as black as coal. I can see you’ve already gotten a glimpse of it, but you don’t know the half of it.” Mary described. Even though I had already seen how cruel Hunter could be, there was something about the way Mary spoke that made my stomach twist. I had to know more. “What happened to you?” I asked quietly. Mary sighed deeply, leaning back on the bed. “When I first came here, he kept me as his s*x slave for a full month. There wasn’t a single day where I wasn’t at his service. It wasn’t just about pleasure for him… it was about control, about breaking me down until I was nothing. He enjoys it, Faelen. He enjoys the power he has over us.” Her words felt like a dagger in my chest. I had learnt Hunter was cruel, but hearing it spelt out so plainly and coldly to me, was another matter entirely. “How… how could anyone be that cruel?” I whispered, more to myself than to Mary. “Because to him, we’re not people,” Mary answered. “We’re just tools. Instruments of pleasure and nothing more to me. He’s a chronic womanizer, a playboy who sees women as nothing but objects to be used and discarded.” She paused a little. “But it’s worse for us servants. With us, he doesn’t have to hide it. He can do whatever he wants, and no one will stop him.” I felt a shiver run down my spine as I listened to Mary. I had known my mission would be dangerous, but I hadn’t anticipated just how monstrous Hunter truly was. The cruelty, the utter lack of regard for human life, it was beyond anything I could have imagined. And now, I was stuck in the middle of it. “How did you survive it?” I asked Mary, curious about her own story. Mary looked at me with sad, weary eyes. “I learned to shut down, to detach myself from it. It’s the only way to get through it, Faelen. You have to harden your heart, or else he’ll break you.” Her words filled me with dread. I didn’t want to become hardened, didn’t want to lose myself in the darkness surrounding Hunter. But I also knew that I didn’t have any choice in it. I had a mission to complete, and if I was going to survive, I would have to do whatever it took. “I don’t know if I can do that,” I admitted though. “You can,” Mary replied me. “And you will. Because you have to. You’re stronger than you think, Faelen. Don’t let this place take that away from you.” I nodded, even though I wasn’t sure if I believed her. Although I knew one thing for sure… I had to keep going. No matter how much it hurt, no matter how much I hated it, I had to keep going. For the sake of my mission at least, and for the sake of all the others who had suffered under Hunter’s cruelty. … After a while there in my room, we were then summoned by the head maid to resume our duties. Mary went back to the west side of the estate and I returned to the palace. Tasked with cleaning the dining room where Hunter and his guest had dined, as I cleaned the huge table, my thoughts spinning wildly about everything Mary and I spoke about, I heard footsteps approaching. I looked up and froze. Hunter was walking toward me, his presence completely filling the room like a fast cloud ready to pour down. He didn’t say anything at first, just kept moving, his eyes scanning the room with that cold look he always had. When his gaze finally landed on me, I felt a shiver run down my spine. He stopped a few feet away and just stared at me, a smirk forming on his lips. “Still here, I see,” he said, his voice filled with mockery. I lowered my gaze, not daring to meet his eyes. “Yes, Alpha,” I mumbled, my voice barely audible. I forced myself to focus on the table, on the task I had, anything to avoid looking at him. Hunter took a step closer, his boots coming into sight below the table. “You know,” he began, his tone almost casual, “there’s something about you that’s different from the others. Most of them just do as they’re told without a second thought. But you… you seem to think you’re better than the rest. Like you don’t belong here.” I bit my lip, trying to keep my emotions in check. I couldn’t respond to that, couldn’t risk saying something that might set him off. But my silence seemed to amuse him more. “What’s the matter?” he taunted. “Has my c**k paralyzed your tongue?” he said with a wicked grin. “Or are you just too afraid to speak?” I swallowed hard, trying to find my voice. “No, Alpha,” I managed to say. “I’m just… trying to do my job, sir.” Hunter chuckled, a sound that sent chills down my spine. “Is that what you think? That doing your job will keep you safe?” He tilted his head down in front of me, his face suddenly inches from mine. “Let me tell you something, little b***h. There’s no such thing as safety in this world. Not for people like you.” I could feel the tears gathering up in my eyes again, but I fought to blink them back, refusing to cry in front of him. I forced myself to nod, hoping he would leave me alone. But he didn’t move. Instead, he reached out and grab my chin, forcing me to look at him. His eyes piercing into mine, and I could see that evil smirk again, that wicked satisfaction in his gaze. “Do you understand me?” he asked, his voice soft but dangerous. “Yes, Alpha,” I whispered in fear. “Good.” He released my chin and straightened up, tall over me. “Remember that the next time you think about disobeying me.” I watched as he turned and walked toward the door, his footsteps echoing in the silence of the room. Just as he was about to exit the room, he paused and glanced back at me. “Oh, and don’t think I didn’t notice you staring. I’m always watching, Faelen.” He pointed out. With that, he walked out, leaving me alone with my thoughts. The moment the door closed behind him, I let out a shaky breath, the tension in my body finally releasing. I wanted to scream, to cry, to do anything to release the tension of emotions that had built up inside me, but I couldn’t. Not here. Not now. I just knelt there on the floor, desperately fighting the tears, my heart pounding in my chest as I tried to make sense of the chaos in my mind. How could someone be so cruel and heartless? And why, despite everything, did I still feel that strange pull to him, for God’s sake? It was like a dark magnetic pull that I couldn’t resist, no matter how much I wanted to. Just then, the door creaked open again, and I looked up, expecting to see Hunter again, but it was someone else.
