Chapter 1
Maya Stuart:
"I want a divorce"
The words that Maycon spoke to me have been around in my head for weeks, today would be the day to sign that damn document.
We no longer lived as a couple, he spent more time at work than at home.
Maycon no longer gave me the attention he gave me at the beginning of our marriage, he spoke to me only when necessary and always went out alone and came back only the next day.
I'm sure he cheated on me.
I couldn't take it anymore, I fought for our relationship as much as I could... but now I see that this is a lost cause.
One person alone cannot save a relationship, both people have to fight together, after all, a relationship is made up of two people, it has to have reciprocity, equality.
When both want, both fight.
In my case, I was fighting alone.
I look in the mirror and see the appearance of a visibly shaken, tired woman...
I think this divorce will do me good, I can't insist on something that has no future.
I'm fighting for something that, instead of making me happy, is slowly destroying me.
I wear a scarlet red dress and black high heels, put on very bright makeup and apply bright red lipstick to my lips.
If he thinks I'm going to be sad about this divorce, he's completely wrong, if he hadn't asked, at some point I'd get tired, and I'd be the one to ask for the annulment of our marriage.
I put on a lot of perfume and grab my super expensive purse, grab my car keys and head to the registry office.
After signing the divorce I was going to move to an apartment I have in the center of the city, my bags are already all in my car.
Maybe I can travel, see new places... Find myself again, because I've been lost for a long time and I need to find my way back, I feel that divorce is the first step to finding myself again.
I park my car and get out of it, the wind hits my blond hair and makes them fly.
Honestly, I'm feeling pretty good. Incredibly well.
I went through the main door of the registry office and I already found my lawyer.
— Good morning, Maya. — says Lyan.
Besides being my lawyer, we're best friends. He has helped me a lot in my separation process.
— Good morning, Lyan. — length the same. — has my ex—husband arrived yet?
— Technically, he's not your ex-husband yet. — it says.
— But it will be, and I can't wait for that to happen. — I talk.
— I'm glad you're okay. — it says. — usually people suffer a lot during this process.
— That hurts. — I confess. — I loved him... a lot, but that was already making me sick. And I need to love myself and always put myself first.
— You are right. — he says while hugging me, giving me strength. — I'm proud of you.
— Thanks for helping me. — I say, pulling away from him and looking him in the eyes.
— You're paying me for this. — he says, and I end up patting his arm, he smiles. — aside from that fact, we're best friends. I will always help you.
— Let's get this over with. — I speak, creating strength to finish what I woke up determined to do. — I need to remove from my life what has been doing me harm for some time.
— Let's go. — He points to a corridor and we follow it.
We entered a room where there was a large table, with three chairs on each side.
I sit down with Lyan next to me, and we discuss the final separation process a bit.
I hear the door open and Maycon pass by, his lawyer walking beside him with a disgusting smile on his lips.
Pretty sure he cheated on me with her too.
What a hate.
Another man enters the room and walks towards a large chair at the end of the table.
He opens his folder and removes some papers, I took a deep breath, I was quite nervous.
— I'm Brendan Martini, and I'm here to help you with the separation process. — says the man looking at us. — I have the divorce documents in my hands, which will be signed by the couple who want to separate. As the process is consensual, everything will be finalized quickly.
I looked at Maycon, he was staring at me with intensity.
I look into his eyes and feel my heart racing... I still love him and I can't deny that fact. Even after all the suffering, the person cannot let go of someone who was the love of his life for so long.
I dropped my gaze to his neck and frozen my gaze there, a lipstick stain was on his suit collar. I feel my heart squeeze, anger consumes me and I know that if I don't put an end to it, I will continue to suffer.
— Please read carefully before signing. — says the man who held our divorce document.
Lyan takes the document and does a quick reading, he explains to me how everything works, after all those documents were composed of formal words, and would complicate my understanding.
Lyan tells me where to sign, I quickly sign and feel a weight lift off my shoulders.
Maycon does a reading along with his lawyer who looks more like a call-girl, then he quickly signs.
— We will make everything official and send a copy to both of you. — says Brendan, putting the document in his folder. — I ask that the lawyers present keep in touch.
He soon leaves the room, as well as Maycon and his lawyer. Not wanting to spend another minute there, I leave with Lyan too.
We pull into the parking lot and I lean against my car and look at Lyan and sigh.
— What do I do now? — I ask.
— Go live. — says my friend. — you are now a free woman, you will do what you always wanted and couldn't do.
— You are right. — I sighed and smiled. — I'm going to my apartment, I'm going to arrange my new home, and from now on I'm going to live intensely without worrying.
— As soon as you say it. — he says.
— You want to go with me? — I ask. — if you can, of course, I know you are a very busy man.
— I really wanted to go, but I promised to visit my mother in the hospital. — he says, smiling sadly.
Lyan's mother has cancer and is admitted to the hospital for treatment.
— But we can have dinner tonight. — he suggests. — like old times.
— I accept. — smiled excitedly. — see you later.
I approach him and hug him.
Soon each one goes his way, from now on I will become a new woman. I will become a better version of myself.
