Dylan's POV
I stormed out of Cailean's room and went straight to the living room. I sat down on the couch and switched on the TV to divert my attention. My wolf almost took over as soon as she held my wrist, which made my heart skip a beat and sent shivers down my spine. I could have claimed her on the spot if I had not left her room as soon as I could.
Goddess, for how long I've been longing to find my mate. I am tired of being alone in this world. Since my parents demised, I took over the Alpha position at such a young age. And I was not able to enjoy the privilege of being young.
Other than Alpha duties, finding my mate is the other thing that kept me busy. I never missed any invitations to pack gatherings, hoping that I would find my beloved mate someday. But luck never smiles at me.
Yes, I am surrounded by pack members and friends. I have Greg, who is my Delta, Mia, Bryan, Lance, Jean, who was my best warrior, and of course, Phelan, my beta, who's like a brother to me. But at the end of the day, it will always be just me, alone. Sleeping alone in my bed with loneliness as my only companion.
But now, things will be different because I have already found my mate! It gave me hope! But the moon goddess must have hated me, for she had given me a human as a mate! How can I tell her what I am? Will she accept me, or will she just see me like an animal, like the one that attacked her?
I was so lost in my thoughts on how I would deal with my human mate, and I hadn't sensed Phelan's presence taking the empty seat beside me.
"Hey, bro! How was your chit-chat with your mate?" Phelan asked while putting his arm around my shoulder.
"I don't know bro, I think I screwed up," I replied with a hint of worry.
"Don't tell me you did something stupid? Oh crap, did you try to claim her?!" Phelan asked in an accusing tone and jerked a bit away from me.
I chuckled and slapped his shoulder with the back of my hand as I responded, "Of course not! I'm not dumb, you i***t! But I think I scared her."
I leaned forward, placed my elbows on my lap, and interlaced my fingers before I continued. "After she told me what happened to her in the woods last night, I couldn't help myself to be protective, so I told her that she couldn't leave this house until I said so. I cannot afford to lose her, Phelan."
"That's sick, Dy! How could you say such a thing to a woman who got lost in the woods and woke up in a stranger's house?!" he utters in disbelief.
"Now she will think you're a psycho kidnapper!" he added and started laughing.
"What shall I do now? You know I am new to this," I asked, and my tone came out desperately.
"I guess you have to talk to her again and apologize for your rudeness. I think that's the best thing that you can do, especially that your mate's a human," Phelan advised.
I took a deep breath and turned to face Phelan. "Okay, that is what I'm going to do, I will call for a pack meeting tomorrow morning to address the situation of my mate, and after that, I will talk to her."
Cailean's POV
I feel like my whole world is about to shatter after hearing those words from him. Tears started to stream down my cheeks as I continued to stare at the door since he left. I can't stop thinking about mom and granny. They will be worried sick about my sudden disappearance. I can't believe this is happening to me. I don't deserve to be treated like this!
The way he told me that I am all his really creeped me out. He made me feel like I am some kind of his possession that nobody can lay eyes on and hands-on but him! Who knows what he's planning to do to me? What if he treats me like a toy to torture like in the movies?! The thought of getting tortured made me feel sick to my stomach, and then a great sob escaped me. I covered my face with a blanket to abate the sound of my distress. To make sure that no one would hear me.
After an hour of crying, I was able to pull myself together. I closed my burning eyes for a while and took a lungful of breath to gather strength and release some tension. I wiped my tears with the back of my hands and leaped out of bed. I made a beeline to the window to check my current position. I am at least twenty feet high from the ground, so jumping from the window is not an option. I need to find a way to escape this hell as soon as possible before something bad happens to me.
