Azure P.O.V
Sitting in the SUV, waiting for Xavier to finish with the Council meeting. My leg couldn't stop twitching. What if something goes wrong? What if Xavier doesn't come downstairs? How many bodyguards would he have with him?
Question after question came running through my mind, giving me a headache. "It's time!" Came Richardo's voice over the earpiece. I quickly hopped out of the SUV and waited near where Xavier would get off the elevator. Sure as time, the elevator pinged 2 minutes later. Xavier got off, I made quick work of sliding behind a pillar. He was on his phone, he definitely wouldn't be able to see this coming.
I heard the screeching of tires and knew it was Marinio and my father. I counted exactly to 5 before I ran from behind the pillar. "Watch out!" I exclaimed as Xavier turned around, facing the car, merely a split second before I dove right into him, completely knocking him out of the way.
"What the fu-" Xavier said before he finally realized who I was.
"You know, it's common sense to look left and right when crossing anywhere where cars drive!" I replied tartly as I got up and dusted off my dress. I turned around to leave, hoping exactly he would do what I predicted he would.
My arm got pulled back abruptly, making me turn around. "You're the girl from the bar! The one who couldn't get away from me fast enough! Carly, is it?" Xavier asked, his eyes studying me intently.
"Carla" I answered back at him, seeing his lips curl into a smirk.
"Carla, sorry ... Just one thing I'm confused by ... you practically ran away from me one night, and then, just a few days later, you saved my life. You truly are something!" Xavier said.
"Well, you saved me from that weirdo at the bar, coupled with you helping out with my ankle .... I'd say that would make us quits? Don't you think, Mr. Cortez?" I asked, not liking the amused expression forming on his face.
"It's just Xavier, by the way. What are you doing at the council building?" He inquired. Okay, here goes nothing. Time for the second phase of the plan. I had to think quickly to come up with a small lie.
"Well, my house got stormed by some druglords ... they set it alight and well ... I'm here to see if there are not any other properties available that I could maybe rent or something for a while," I said, looking down at the ground and hoping that he would believe me.
"f**k! Well, I know of someone who might be able to help you. But, to be honest, I don't think you'll get a place in a while. If you want, I've got a spare room, why don't you come ... and well ... you can use it. It's only my way of saying thank you for saving me from being flung across the parking lot by a car." Xavier offered.
I have a sigh of relief. Thankfully, he bought my lie. I looked up at him, uncertain.
"Come on, just try it for 3 days. If you still feel all certain about it all, then I'll see if I can get you boosted on the list! You'll never know if you never try!" Xavier tried to convince me. I just rolled my eyes at him.
"Fine! But if that weird brother of yours tries anything ever again ... I won't be able to take responsibility for my actions!" I said with a huff. Xavier just laughed at me.
"Seriously ... I wouldn't want to be on your bad side ever! You sound scary as hell! So ... where's all your luggage?" He asked, looking around.
"Well ... I left it over there, and don't worry, I managed to only salvage a few of my things so it won't take up too much space," I said, walking over to my small suitcase. I glanced up and saw Marinio and my father, parked in the far corner. Marinio just nodded at me, before I pulled my suitcase up, just as Xavier came and stood by my side.
"Alright, well ... my driver is on his way around," Xavier said, looking around. His phone rang, pulling it abruptly out of his pocket, he took the call.
"Yeah, yeah, I don't know who the f**k that was. Driving in a parking lot at that speed. Yeah, check the cameras. Uhu. Maybe we'll be able to get more information. Okay, yes ... will do." Xavier said before cutting the call.
"Everything alright?" I asked him with a concerned expression.
"Yeah ... I'm just getting someone to look into whoever it was who tried to run me over!" He mumbled just as his SUV pulled up. Xavier took my bag from my hand and opened the back passenger door for me. I slid into the SUV, hoping that my father and Marinio were at least clever enough to hide their faces from cameras.
I knew that if Xavier found out that it was them, there would be an even bigger all-out war between the Cortez and Salvatore families. "Home Ron" I heard Xavier command as we made our way to the Cortez mansion.

Walking into the huge house Xavier stayed in, I was completely mind-blown. If I ever thought that the Salvatore family had a huge mansion, this one was on steroids.
"Okay, so this is the west wing. The entire wing is mine, so no one comes here except me. Your room will be right here, opposite mine." Xavier said, gesturing for me to go inside the bedroom. I walked inside and my mouth went dry with surprise. This honestly couldn't be described as a bedroom ... more like an entire apartment with an open plan or something.
There was a small lounge area with a couch and a TV, a bed with a king-sized huge ass bed covered in all white. There was a big open window, looking at the outside world. I walked over to the window and stared at the beautiful gardens below. We were on the second floor.
"Look ... I know this isn't much, but if you need anything, all you have to do is just ask and I will get it for you immediately," Xavier said, looking around the room.
"Not much ... this is like four times the size my apartment was in the city!" I said, still in shock.
Xavier's phone ringing took me from my thoughts, "Uhm, sorry, I've got to get this" Xavier said, before turning on his heel and walking out of the room. I sat down on the bed, contemplating how to go about the entire situation and when I'd be able to receive my first instructions from Marinio.
"Xavier! Xav- Who the f**k are you?!" A red-haired, tall girl said in a shrill voice as she walked into the room. Ah... it must be the girlfriend or whatever she called herself. I was reading about when I dug up more information about Xavier.
"I'm Carla, and who are you?" I asked her with a non-caring attitude as I walked over to the window, exploring the mansion a bit more from above here.
"I'm Ariala! What are you doing here? Did he seriously get a w***e to get off on?! Get out!" She shouted at the top of her lungs. After she realized I wasn't going anywhere, she walked over to me and pulled at my arm, trying to get me out of the room.
"You stupid w***e! Get the f**k out!" She started screaming again.
"What the -! Ariala! Get away from her! What do you think you're doing?!" Xavier said, walking back into the room, looking livid as hell. My heart felt a small thump seeing him like that. When we were younger, I never really saw him mad, and at times when I did, he always laughed it off or so.
"Why are you bringing a w***e into your house? Am I no longer good enough or what?!" She shouted back at him.
"Ariala! You are walking on very thin ice over here!" Xavier warned her. It looked like his warning fell on deaf ears as Ariala laughed before walking back to me, giving me a hard slap across the face. I bit the inner side of my cheek to not retort back and kick her ass all the way out of this mansion.
"Ariala! Get the f**k away from her!" Xavier shouted, marching over to us and pulling at Ariala's arm, forcing her out of the room.
"Why are you taking that w***e! We're supposed to get married and have a life together. Xavier!" I heard her shout just before the sound of a door slamming echoed through the wing. s**t ... Xavier must have really lost his s**t on the poor little girl ... if only she knew that I wasn't here for Xavier's heart.
"Sorry about that ... Ariala can sometimes get a little carried away when she wants to," Xavier said, walking back into the room.
"Don't worry about it... I won't be here for much longer so I'll let you get back to Ariala or whoever will barge in here next and attack me" I said, turning back to the window. Xavier walked over to me and gently placed his hand on my shoulder, turning me around to face him. He brought his hand up to my face, lightly tracing the spot where Ariala hit me with his fingers as his other hand gently wiped away a lone tear that escaped my eye. I clenched my eyes shut as I felt the tell-tale goosebumps erupting all over my skin.
I shifted uncomfortably on my feet. I wanted to get away from his touch so badly. As if he sensed my uneasiness, he retracted his hand as if my skin was acid. "Sorry..." he mumbled before slightly moving away with a sigh.
"It's fine ..." I muttered and turned back to the window.
"Okay, well... I'll let you get settled in and dinner will be served at 6:30 pm," Xavier said before leaving the room, closing the door behind him.
I sat back down on the bed, rubbing my hands all over my face. What the hell did I manage to get myself into?!
