6. Escape. Erika “Then help me to run away from this pack with my son,” I demanded. Victor’s face blanched like he had seen a ghost or heard the scariest thing that he had ever imagined. His panicked steps came further into the room as he drew closer to me. He shook his hand like a maniac. "What? Please don't take Adam with you," his words came at me like a shot. He asked me to leave Adam like he was a piece of cake, some kind of consumable good. It was so easy for him to say this bullshit, but it would be a death sentence for me. How could he ask me to leave my Adam here? “Owen needs to kill me if he wants Adam!” I declared. He glanced between a sleeping Adam and me in surprise. "Owen will be devastated if you take Adam. If you want to leave alone then I will gladly help you. But don't take his son away from him. I beg you to forget about Adam now and just give him to Owen. Trust me everything will be alright if you do what I say." A thick sheen of sweat formed on his forehead while a feeling of pure disgust rose in my heart as I listened to his begging. The punishment for slapping or even killing this selfish male would be high but totally worth it. He was waiting for my answer, his eyes were full of panic and ardor, expecting to hear the answer he wanted. “Please, think about it,” he grabbed my hand. "I knew that the apology you asked from me all that time ago was of no value to you. You're begging me to leave Adam with Owen? How dare you even suggest that!" I jerked my hand back from his grip, clenching my hand so that I don’t slap him across the face for his insulting suggestion. "Two years ago I had been under the misconception that you were just a selfish, lowly person, just some trash but now I am convinced that you are an animal. An animal, a heartless person in human skin," hearing me, his hands trembled as his eyes filled with tears. He took a few steps away from me. "I already know how horrible Owen is but I hope your mate doesn't know before her death how bad you truly are. She shouldn't have to know what her mate is!" Every word that came out of my mouth was pure venom, a curse meant just for him, which he was stunned into listening to, but his uncontrollable tears flowed nonetheless. “I am sorry. I am so sorry, Erika. Please don't curse me. Please forgive me for everything I have done,” he fell to his knees in front of me, repenting for all of his wrongdoings but had he ever stopped to realise that my life had already been ruined? "Owen doesn't know anything," his tears fell to the floor as this was the first time he spoke on anything related to Owen. I was taken aback by his words. How quickly he had come up with this excuse. My fist clenched my dress tightly at my side when I heard that lie from him. It has been two years but he still wanted me to believe all that bul s**t so that they could snatch my Adam from me. "I already hate Owen the most so you don't need to give me any more reasons to loathe him. Get out." I close my eyes, not allowing my tears to fall due to his lie. All of my memories of the past were haunting me now. "I am telling you the truth. You have to believe me Erika!" He drew closer to me on his knees, grabbing my hand in panic. "Owen is…" "Victor!" A female entered the room, calling his name before he could speak any further. She wouldn’t let him tell me whatever he was going to do. I lifted my eyes to see Victor’s sister, Freya. “So it really is you, Erika,” she chuckled but it was mixed with rage and irritation. I just stood tall in front of her without replying. She was the same b***h she was two years ago. Victor looked between her and I. “What the f**k you are doing here?” He got up from the floor, grabbing her hand tightly. His tone, attitude, and everything had changed instantly he was furious. “That’s exactly what I could ask you. What the f**k were you going to say? Do you have a f*****g death wish?” She gritted her teeth making him feel guilty about whatever it was as her eyes snapped at me. “I came to see what Owen and you were hiding from me!” She pushed him back. “Get out of here before I kill you!” She shrieked as she came closer to me. Victor was quick to haul her back using the hand he had been holding. “Don’t f*****g create a mess in here! Owen is in his office. If he hears your scream then you know what will happen. Just go back to your room, don't poke your nose in Owen’s business anymore. He would not think twice before killing you,” he whispered into her ear, but I heard them clearly. She glared at him, hiding how badly his words had affected and scared her. “Victor, the Alpha is calling you,” Robin entered the room with a message but his comment slowed when he felt the tension in the air. “Is something wrong?” He looked between the three of us. It was obvious that he was suspicious as Freya was throwing daggers at me with her gaze. “Nothing, just having a little chit chat. We just finished up here and were about to leave,” He grabbed Freya’s hand, dragging her out of the room against her will. She wanted to stay and kick me out personally. Robin was still suspicious, he was giving me a look while placing plates of food on the table. "The Alpha has sent dinner up for you and this is for the little one," he informed as he also carried new clothes and warm blankets for Adam. He took a good look at Adam sleeping on the bed before leaving the room. Owen must have asked him to keep an eye on me thinking that I would close the door. Placing the clothes on the bed I went to the sofa where he had put down a couple plates with rice, eggs, meat, and some fruit. The smell was tantalizing, it was making my mouth water. After seeing this food I realized how hungry I was. In the joy of Dan's return this morning, the Alpha had ordered all the members of the pack to prepare a feast and to decorate for the party that he had set up for him. Most of the time I had been working in the kitchen, preparing food. Dad had strictly forbidden me from eating anything. He had said that if I ate too much before I was mated and marked, then I would not be able to have s*x for a long time, and my mate would not be happy about that. He hadn't even let me have a drop of water, now my stomach was empty and I was suffering. I looked at Adam who was sleeping at last but he had not been for long. He was going to cry due to hunger soon. If I hadn't eaten by then it would be a big mess, so before changing clothes I thought about satisfying my hunger. As soon as the first fork full of food was about to touch my lips, my hand was slapped by another. The food was spilled all over the place, it ruined my already wet clothes. “What are you doing?” I gritted my teeth as I glared at Freya who had come back as soon as Victor had left her in her room. Her brown eyes had a purple back spot indicating that she would shift soon and tear me into two. “You are still alive? Why are you back in Owen's life?! Just leave him alone!” She screeched but still kept it low so that others would not overhear her. I could not tell what had angered her more, my being alive or the fact that Owen had brought me here. “I did not come back, he is the one who dragged me here and is not letting me go. Do you think that I am fond of seeing any of you?” I asked rhetorically as I got up from the sofa. She looked dissatisfied with my answer as she doubted that I had followed him here. “Lie! Why would he do that? He has no reason…” She stopped as soon as she heard Adam’s cry. Her eyes snapped to him to the bed. “A child?” Her eyes widened, as her jaw dropped. Earlier due to the argument she had totally ignored his existence in the room as she had not expected a child to be there. “Is he Owen’s child?” she started to take her steps closer to him. “So you are holding him to you using a child?” She growled. I blocked her path, not letting her get close to Adam. Her eyes were searching for some kind of answer but she would not get any of that from me. “So he really is his son,” she looked angry, hurt, but especially manic the next thing I knew she pounced on Adam. “Stay away from him!” I growled, pushing her back, sensing her evil intention. She wanted to kill him. I ran to the bed, picked him up and secured him in my arms. “I will remove every obstacle that could possibly come between Owen and I. That child is stopping him from coming to me so he needs to be removed,” she declared. Rage flowed through me like lava. “You dare to touch my son! I will eat you alive, even eat your bones!!!” My wolf Isla was in my eyes, she had come back to kill this female who wanted to kill our child. My nails had turned to claws, ready to kill her. She had taken a few steps back. She knew if she started a fight that Owen would come. “I would gladly fight with you but it would be a d**k move. You would protect him over your own life, love him until the very end. But in the end Owen would know the truth and snatch his son away from you, then what will you do?” I thought back on her words. They were true. He already hated that Adam was with me and after learning everything he was going to kick me out of Adam’s life. He would steal him from me. I could not take that risk. “I want Owen and you want that child then let's make a deal. Leave this pack with him, then leave the country. Go somewhere where Owen would never be able to find you.” She raised her eyebrows with an evil smirk. She had just shot two targets with one arrow. If her plan was successful she would be able to have Owen while I left with Adam and she would also be able to remove me from here forever. She had a victory smile on her face as she knew I would agree to her proposal. I also had no other way to escape from Owen with Adam. “But there are people who are guarding the pack house. How can I escape?” I had decided to follow her plan and leave here successfully. I had no desire to stay here. Adam was my whole world, if he was with me then I could live anywhere, under any conditions. “Don’t worry about it. Just apply this and run away using the back door. I have already sent the wolves guarding that door away. No one will know about your absence as you would have applied this perfume, it will hide both of your scents but it will wear off after five minutes so you have only that amount of time on your hands to escape.” The perfume that hid scent was placed in my hand. It was the key to my escape. I looked at the door that Owen had asked me not to close and told me not to think about running away. Then my mind was on Adam, if I didn’t run away right now then he would be stolen from me. If I was caught then Owen was going to kill me but I had to take that risk. “Don’t think too much. You don’t have much time,” she reminded me. I just held in my emotions as I wrapped Adam in the warm blankets that Robin had left. It was cold out so I didn't want him to get even more sick. My hand quickly grabbed his new clothes as well. I had lost my bag near the broken phone booth so I had nothing for myself. I had only a few dollars in a pouch tied in my clothes. So I could not buy anything right away. So I decided to keep his clothes and warm blankets. “Wait! You cannot take food with you,” she grabbed my hand when I was about to take an apple with me. “But I need to eat, for Adam. Let me take just an apple,” I asked but as soon as I turned she said. “Then you need to leave those blankets and clothes for that child.” My feet froze as I listened to her. She walked around me and crossed her arms over her chest. “You need to choose. Clothes for the child or food for yourself?” She laid the option out in front of me, laughing at my expression. I had only disgust in my heart for her. She had not changed. Not a bit. I threw the apple on the floor, storming out of the room with Adam’s wrapped in the blankets. It was okay as long as I kept Adam warm but I needed to eat. I had to arrange some kind of food even if it was something small. I applied the perfume that turned out to only be enough for one use. Like she had said there was no one at the back door. I raced out of the pack house into the woods. This was my one time opportunity to escape from Owen. I had just five minutes to leave the pack, before Owen would realize that we were missing. I ran only stopping for a few seconds when I saw an apple tree. I was glad to see it. I just grabbed two apples from the ground then again ran while eating it. I needed to eat so that I could keep my strength up. A few minutes passed, and I could feel that I was close to the border. The perfume was beginning to fade from my body. No! I was in big trouble. I was still a few meters away from the border. I just prayed to the Moon Goddess to help me to cross the Dark Moon pack’s border. A smile appeared on my lips when I was so close to it that I could smell my freedom. I kissed Adam’s head as we had finally made it. We were free but that had all stopped instantly when I saw a big figure step right in front of me. My whole body grew cold at seeing the one thing that I was afraid of…
