Owen
I could not even manage to blink once as my gaze fixed on my son who was sucking Erika’s milk. How was that possible? I half expected myself to wake up from this unexpected, impossible scene where a she-wolf who had never given birth, at least that was what I had thought she was, was breastfeeding a child. How was this possible? The way she was breastfeeding it had not seemed like it was her first time but like she had done it many times.
Her big beautiful eyes were locked with mine, giving me a mysterious look. It was like she had never wanted to disclose this but the situation had forced her hand. Wait! I was slowly beginning to understand everything. She already knew the reason behind Adam’s crying. She recognized that he was hungry, the reason she had not been ready to hand Adam over was because she had wanted to breastfeed him but due to our presence she could not. She had never wanted any other female to feed Adam. But why?
“Owen, I found someone…” Victor ran back into the room with Robin. The whole pack had gone crazy over Adam.
“My friend’s wife gave birth to a baby a month ago. She can breastfeed Adam. I gave her a call…”
“No need,” I interrupted him, still watching Erika.
“What? What about Adam?” He seemed confused. Dr. Reed and Robin came back to the room telling me that they had also found some females.
“It is not time to overthink things, Alpha. If you are assuming that another female could be dangerous then I am sure they will not be. Right now Adam needs nourishment,” he explained but I just shook my head. Victor and everyone else followed my gaze back inside the room when they realized Adam had stopped crying. Everyone was stunned as they witnessed Erika breastfeeding.
“Males are watching her breastfeeding!” Adel growled in my mind in utter displeasure. I also felt restless at the fact that other males were watching her in this vulnerable state as she fed my son. A discomfort also appeared in her eyes when the others were watching her, that had not been there when it had been me watching her. Why was she not uncomfortable with me? I wanted to rip their eyes out but before I could follow through on my desires Victor did something that attracted my attention. He fell on the floor in shock while looking at Erika in horror. His reaction was bigger than anyone else's.
“Victor, what’s wrong?” Robin panicked. He approached him to help me get him up from the floor but his whole body was trembling and sweating like a pig. His eyes were fixed on Erika’s like they were talking with their eyes.
“Get up!” I ordered, becoming furious. This was the second time that Victor and Erika had exchanged intense looks. For whatever reason I hated that some other male was looking at her that way. His reaction to this entire situation right now was also not exactly pleasing to me. It was like he hated that she was feeding my son!
I grabbed his collar as I dragged him out of the room to my office. Dr. Reed and Robin followed right behind me in a panic not understanding what was going on. I pushed Victor up against the wall before abruptly letting him go. He dropped to the floor but got up quickly before I lost my mind at witnessing his weakness. I hated weak, submissive, and useless people in my pack.
“What is with your face? You know Victor, you never were very good at hiding anything,” I growled getting up in his face as he took his steps back in fear. He was acting like I had lost total control over myself.
“Nothing,” he shook his head, lowering his head in submission but still looked like he was having a panic attack. I grabbed his collar as I dragged him closer to me.
“Are you hiding something?! Is there something that I need to know?!” His eyes snapped back to me like I asked something that he had never predicted.
“No, there is nothing,” he replied quickly, too quickly as a thin bead of sweat rolled down his face that proved him wrong.
“Then what was with your reaction to seeing her breastfeeding?” Because for whatever reason I could not shake the feeling that he knew that she could breastfeed, but he had not expected that she would do it.
“I was just shocked to see her breastfeeding,” he claimed. His earlier reaction and his reply had not matched up.
“Owen, what’s wrong with you boy. I was surprised to see her breastfeeding too. Victor just overreacted,” Dr. Reed placed his hand on my shoulder, as if he was trying to calm me down because if I continued to be violent then I was going to have another headache. I let Victor’s collar go with a growl. Maybe I was overthinking this but I was still not satisfied.
“Here take your medication,” Dr. Reed walked to the desk to fetch a new bottle for me.
“I don’t need them,” he stopped as he gave me a stunned look.
“What does that mean? Are you not experiencing a headache?” All three of the males were giving me the same look. I had been taking the same medication for the last two years without any gaps but today for the first time I had not felt like I needed it. I had not had a single headache either. It was quite shocking for me as well.
“Yeah,” I replied in confusion.
“What is going on with you Owen? You have been acting weird since that female arrived in this pack,” What? I had been acting weird since Erika showed up? But in reality I felt that everyone else had changed after her arrival, not me. His eyes were showing concern but I also saw fear in them as well that I had not been taking my medication. I could not help but notice that he and Victor were exchanging looks that were quite suspicious.
“I am fine without them. I told you from now on I will not be taking that medication,” I declared. Dr. Reed looked pale when I refused. Robin was the only one who had a normal expression out of everyone in the room.
“But Alpha, this female is quite suspicious. First she stole her sister’s son, already named him, then she refused to leave Adam, she tried to run away with him, and now she is breastfeeding him as well. I don’t understand what she is? A child thief? A loyal sister? A stupid female who is just loving someone else child or A…” Robin stopped while speaking. My eyes snapped back to him as I realized what he had been about to say which was total bullshit! For whatever reason I had also been having the same shitty thoughts but why had it been exciting me?
That was when Adel began to act oddly in my mind. I felt distressed and restless. I felt like something was wrong with Erika.
“Aahhh!” Samantha’s shout echoed through the pack house. I ran to my room as it was coming from there.
“What happened here?” Victor ran to Samantha who was laying on the floor in pain. Her head was bleeding. A broken bloody vase was laying on the floor beside her. My eyes went to Adam who was on the bed sleeping but Erika was nowhere to be found. There was a plate of food for Erika and it was clear that she had taken a few bites from it.
“Where is Erika?” I asked, walking closer to Samantha. She was Freya’s personal maid.
“She… she hit me then ran away by jumping through this window!” She pointed towards the open big window of my room from which a cold breeze was entering the room.
“What? She ran away again? Alpha, should I go and look for her?” Robin was ready to follow my orders but I shook my head. He stopped looking at me in confusion.
“So you are telling me that she ran away?” I got closer to her asking her one more time.
“She hit you with this vase and ran away leaving Adam here?” I raised my brow as
my tone was stern. She started to tremble in fear, the next thing I knew she was on her knees, sobbing.
“I am sorry Alpha. I lied…” She confessed right away. I already knew that she had been lying. That stubborn female would never leave without Adam.
“So what is this all about, Samantha?” I squatted down in front of her, held her chin up as I forced her to look into my eyes that had turned black.
“Where is she, Samantha?” my claws ran along her face as they were ready to tear her soft skin apart.
“She… she was taken away by Freya,” she stammered, surprising me.
“What? Why are you f*****g blaming my sister!” Victor enraged.
“I am telling the truth, Alpha,” she gave me a scared look thinking that I would kill her before listening to her.
“Freya asked me to bring Erika food using your name. She had mixed something into it, I don't know what exactly it was, but as soon as she ate it she started to feel dizzy. Freya came in after a few minutes and started to tell her to run away or die. She was pushing her in anger. Erika was only trying to protect the child but then she fainted. I got scared thinking that she was dead but Freya grabbed her by her hair and jumped out of that window, ordering me to tell you a lie that she had run away,” she confessed everything in one breath. So my restlessness and distress had not been just my imagination? She really had been in danger! My heart was beating out of control thinking about what Freya would do with her or what she had been planning! I was sure that she was going to harm her.
“Don't lie! Don't blame my sister!” Victor yelled at Samantha. He was about to hit her but I got up from the floor and stood in front of him, blocking his path.
“Alpha, please don’t believe her. I know Freya would not do it…” His words were not conveying his confidence. He was just saying this so that he could save his sister.
“We all know what your sister is, Victor,” he lowered his head in submission, not arguing anymore as everyone in the pack knew what Freya was capable of as she was a psychopath.
“Please… please forgive Freya, Alpha. I don't know how she got out of her room. I was sure that she had taken her medication. She had told me that now she was not having attacks so I had not chained her… I…” I showed him my palm as I had no patience left to listen to anymore of his excuses. I was running out of time as it was.
“Trust me, Victor. If something has happened to Erika then you will be holding the dead body of your psychopathic sister in your arms!” I growled at him, pushing him out of my path. I had decided to kill Freya as I had already sensed that something bad had happened to Erika. My heart was saying that she was leaving me slowly.
“Alpha,” my leg was grabbed by Victor who was crying like a child.
“Please don't hurt, Freya! I beg you!” He howled pathetically.
“Let go of my leg or I would f*****g kill you Victor!” I warned before I lost all patience and turned on him. The only thing stopping me right now was our friendship but when he continued to not listen to me I kicked him in the stomach. His drama and brotherly love were holding me back from getting to Erika. He shouted in pain holding his stomach as he coughed. I started to rush out of the room, Robin following close behind me. I had already mind linked all of my pack members to search for Erika.
“Owen,” Victor’s voice called to me again, I stopped in frustration. He had said my name with so much pain. Our childhood friendship was chaining my hands.
“She is just scared of Erika. With Erika’s arrival she has become insecure, insanely so. She is trying to kill her. It is my mistake. Please punish me,” with the help of a wall he had managed to sit up on the floor. I made my way over to him.
“Why is Freya insecure over Erika? Why has her arrival made her insane?” I raised my brows in suspicion. He blinked his teary eyes as he tried to look away but I grabbed his jaw tightly forcing him to look at me.
“What are you hiding from me, Victor!” I growled as Adel came forth in my eyes. Both of our emotions were out of control as my mind had already made many assumptions that were not good.
“Tell me or I will f*****g kill your b***h of a sister!!!” I shouted, losing my temper. He was startled badly, he began sweating more profusely but then finally spoke.
“Erika is… Adam’s biological mother!” He confessed.
“What?” My mind went completely blank.
