“Where?” Con asked looking left, right, and then up the stairs. “Up there?’ “Yes.” Con ran up the staircase, and Kenton followed. As they rounded the corner, two men appeared. They were armed and started to level their guns at Con. However, Con didn’t back down, and Kenton watched, his heart hammering, as the two men began to cough, the guns wavering. The men dropped slowly to their knees, wheezing and gasping, before finally collapsing fully on the floor. “Come on, hurry.” Con hesitated long enough to pick up their guns and shove them in his jacket pocket. Kenton obeyed Con, not sure what he’d just witnessed. Was that smoke inhalation or something else?
