The creaking sound of a wheelchair rubbing against the floor echoed into the spacious study. Cedric calmly stared at the figure of a woman holding a cup of warm tea while sitting in her study chair. The woman was very charming with her long blonde hair. Even her firm facial lines made the woman much more attractive in the eyes of most people.
Cedric was about to greet her when the woman suddenly turned her head and stared at him flatly. She asked sarcastically. "Oh, do you want to go again like you usually do?" The woman's voice sounded so annoyed and frustrated. Even with her pale and sad face. "Always the same, you never learn from experience. It makes me tired Cedric."
"Edith." Cedric said softly. He pushed his wheelchair closer to the woman trying to hold her hand. But the other person immediately pushed the hand away roughly. Cedric took a deep breath, he then continued his sentence, "I just want to go for a while and come back in a few days. Don't worry, it won't take long."
Edith snorted loudly, she looked annoyedly at the figure of the man sitting in the wheelchair. She shouted with great anger. "I don't want to see you. Go away. I'm fed up with all your behavior so far."
Cedric approached again, slowly pushing his wheelchair until the creaking sound was heard again. He tried to hold Edith's fingers, but once again, the woman pushed him away. "Edith, let me go okay? Just a few days. Please don't be angry."
Edith frowned, the woman ruffled her hair in frustration. Her body shook with emotion, then impulsively she threw her cup roughly at Cedric's feet. The incident happened so fast that Edith didn't even realize what she had just done.
The room immediately became silent. Edith was stunned for a few moments without realizing it.
Edith Ortega was the eldest daughter of the Ortega family. The woman was very genius and clever in business. Three years ago, she even managed to surpass her brother in developing the family business.
However, the Ortegas were a conservative, old-fashioned family, they clearly would not allow a woman like Edith to become the heir to the family. Moreover, at that time, the eldest Ortega had reached the peak of his career and fame. All the businessmen in the city were talking about the business genius. This would clearly trigger bad public opinion if Ortega appointed a male heir in the future.
The family elders clearly would not allow this to continue. So they intended to overthrow Edith from her fame at that time. Old Madame Ortega, Madame Florence, picked up a disabled and dying foreign man on the side of the road. She then forced Edith to marry the foreign man for the sake of the family.
Initially Edith flatly refused the proposal, but it seemed that the elders were not that easily swayed, they began to spew a number of unreasonable statements at family meetings, urging Edith to immediately marry the man. Also with cheap lies that Edith knew very well. She was not stupid, she already understood how contradictory the elders were to the development of her career at that time.
Edith was immediately faced with a complicated choice, her grandmother even threatened her about her chance to become Ortega's heir if she did not marry the man. But on the other hand, if Edith agreed to marry, the power she had built up so far with great difficulty would really fall to its lowest point.
In the end, Edith had no other choice but to marry the foreign man, Cedric. The wedding was even held in a festive manner, all the prominent families were invited to this event. The elders who planned this wedding seemed to intend to embarrass Edith, to bring her down from her high and proud career.
Edith, on her wedding day, felt like a clown who was entertaining everyone. Making herself the subject of jokes and insults.
However, Edith maintained her calm attitude, even when other families in the city began to regret her attitude because she was willing to marry a man of unknown origin and a disability. Not much different from marrying a useless and useless piece of crap.
Not giving up, the woman still tried to restart her career. Everything was so difficult that it even made her frustrated. The Ortega family clearly limited her career. And her husband's status without a background was enough to make many people choose not to help Edith.
Her condition worsened day by day. But Edith not only did not give up, she never even blamed Cedric and tried to treat the man well as her husband.
However, there was something that always triggered Edith's anger. After their marriage, every month, Cedric would leave for a few days. The man could not be traced or contacted during that time. What made Edith feel even stranger was the large expenses from Cedric's card, reaching thousands of dollars every time he left. This continued to happen repeatedly during the three years of their marriage.
Edith already felt like she was on the verge of her consciousness. This man never even said where he was going, all their arguments always ended with an apology from her husband without any other explanation. This made Edith angry and inevitably the woman took another path, a divorce letter.
The woman now no longer even thought about the consequences she would get from the elders if she dared to divorce Cedric. However, Edith was also an ordinary human being who had limited patience. She could no longer stand all this.
In the large office, Cedric was about to speak again when he saw a cup flying and hitting his leg until it broke into pieces. The hot tea inside spilled onto the man's pants.
Cedric was also left speechless by the action.
Cedric Oliver, was once a famous war hero. He was a military expert whose war strategy was recognized as very brilliant. This made him famous both among their own troops and even the enemy troops.
Three years ago, Cedric went to war like before, but the enemy ambushed him in the middle of the road, it was caused by a traitor in their troops who leaked the war strategy to the opposing side.
The war then erupted so fiercely. Cedric's troops won with great struggle but the man had to pay for it with both of his injured legs. Because of the late treatment of the wound, he ended up paralyzed.
Edith looked at Cedric's legs which still had a number of glass pieces. But the woman immediately turned away. She looked at her husband with an angry gaze mixed with frustration. "Explain to me Cedric, where are you going?"
"Edith, please listen to me, I'm only going for a few days okay? After all my business is finished, I'll tell you," Cedric replied with a gentle smile. The man was still trying to get closer with difficulty, intending to reach his wife's arm before she moved away.
"Don't touch me!" Edith shouted, her eyebrows still sharply slanted and her eyes shining sarcastically. "Tell me what you're going to do in those few days! Tell me where you're going! Tell me Cedric!" The woman's voice rose several octaves. She screamed desperately.
"I'm sorry Edith, I can't tell you." Cedric lowered his head guiltily. "But I'll be back soon, I promise, I won't be gone for long."
"That's all you always say!" Edith shouted again loudly. "You've always given the same answer for the past three years! Tell me where you're going! Tell me what you're doing! And why do you need so much money? Tell me, please Cedric."
"I'm sorry Edith, I—"
"Enough!" Before Cedric could finish his sentence, Edith had already interrupted him rudely. "You only have two choices, answer my question or sign these divorce papers. Cedric, I've had enough of this."
