The she-wolf woke and immediately knew something was wrong. The faint scent of three males filled her nose as she exited her den. The scent was old like they were here last night. They must have entered her den area while she slept last night. Growling lowly she dragged the deer out from the hole and gorged herself on the meat, eating at much as she could before she left this den.
As much as she hated to, she would need to abandon this den, if those males found her then it was no longer safe.
She could head to the mountains and find a new den there. It was much further from her current den and the rocky terrain was harder to track scents on. It was also filled with bighorn sheep, the deep snow would make them slower and less agile and easier to catch as well.
Unfortunately, the brown bears lived on the mountains too, less coverage as well. She would need to take extra precautions as the bears were still preparing for hibernation and wouldn't discriminate against eating wolf for calories. She may be a large and powerful wolf but she still didn't want the injuries from a bear attack with three males chasing her.
She shook her coat out and set off at a lope towards the mountains. Hopefully, the wolves wouldn't return too soon and she could safely get into the mountains before they tracked her down.
It was already starting to snow heavily and helping to cover her scent from the wolves. The heavy snow clung to her topcoat like an extra blanket, helping to trap body heat and keep her warm as she trotted through the deepening snow.
She continued traveling for a few hours before stopping at a small creek for a drink, it had not yet gotten cold enough to freeze these but it would soon.
The she-wolf was tense, her ears constantly twitching around for any sound. She was prepared to run the first sign of the wolves. She doesn't want to kill any more wolves than she has too but she would defend herself at their cost.
She growled lowly as she heard the snow crunching underneath the weight of something and prepared to bolt off in the opposite direction.
The scent of males filled her nose and she looked around and sniffed the air, trying to find where they were coming from. She gave a warning bark and listened again. Nothing, no sounds and the scent faded by just a little.
Slowly she backed up from the creek and ran into the trees. It wasn't long until she heard a wolf pursuing her. She ran with ease, weaving through the trees and leaping over fallen trees from the last storm. She had the advantage of knowing the terrain and it showed as the wolf behind her struggled to match her pace.
She veered to the left and made her way up a steep hill. Her claws dug into the frozen ground with ease as her muscles worked to keep her momentum going. She heard the wolf behind her fade back as she climbed.
She grinned triumphantly and climbed the last few yards up the hill. When she got to the top she dared to look down and see a large light grey wolf pacing at the bottom of the hill, he felt her eyes on him and growled at the she-wolf.
She gave a short mocking howl in return and turned and trotted away.
Tanwyn watched the she-wolf disappear and alerted his brothers that she was on her way. "Stay behind her, keep pushing her this way. Swithun and I are waiting" Kostis said. Tanwyn gave a grunt in acknowledgment and pushed himself to chase after the she-wolf.
The she-wolf loped through the woods as she made her way to the mountains. She no longer smelled the wolf who was chasing her but she still didn't feel safe. Running now could cause her to lose precious calories that could help her survive the winter months.
She stopped and sniffed the air, again the male's scent filled her nose but it was distant. He must have finally made his way up the hill and was tracking her scent again.
She groaned in annoyance and decided to roll in the snow to help cover her scent more. The snow was coming down harder now, causing her viability to be down to almost nothing. She would have to rely on pure memory and scent to navigate her way to the mountains. The male would have a worse time as he was new to this forest.
When his scent got stronger she took off at a light run, straight for the mountains. The wind wasn't helping her any as it whipped against her fur, the small snowflakes turning into sharp projectiles from the strong wind burned her face. She flatted her ears against her head and lowered it down nearly to her chest to try and protect her sensitive face.
She was so focused on trying to protect her sensitive eyes from the sharp snow she didn't notice a new wolf stalking just behind her.
Kostis stalked slowly behind the she-wolf, he was amazed at how easily she seemed to move through the storm, even he was having a rough time with the strong winds and deepening snow. He followed her after Tanwyn followed her up the hill then veered off to meet with Swithun.
Kostis had the hard job of holding the she-wolf until Swithun was able to sedate her, they would've used a dart gun but the high winds made hitting a target impossible. He watched as the she-wolf tucked her head low and power through as a harsh blast of wind tore through the forest.
As quick as he could be launched from his position and slammed all his weight into the she-wolf, effectively knocking the wind out of her. He had the element of surprise but something told him that wouldn't help much.
With a loud snarl the she-wolf turned and snapped at the male who attacked her, she snagged his shoulder in a good bite and hold on. The male clawed at her underbelly and latched his teeth onto her scruff in a weak hold.
The she-wolf twisted her body and bucked the male off her and leaped back snarling loudly. She could barely make out his features in the Strom but she could tell he was a large brown wolf. Slightly bigger than her and seemingly more experienced in fighting than her.
Kostis eyed the she-wolf carefully as she snarled at him, she was standing in a defensive position. Her dark silver coat was thick and covered in snow, her muscles were tense and waiting, even underneath a thick coat, he could see her muscle definition.
He growled lowly and she returned it with a louder growl, Kostis could feel the power in her voice and be starting to regret saying he would bring her to the Alpha alive. Something about this she-wolf made him feel like he wasn't going to capture her and live to tell the tale.
The she-wolf lunged at him and he dodged it and sunk his teeth into her scruff again, this time a firmer hold. She was inexperienced then, she was a strong wolf with good talent but an experienced fighter like Kostis could easily grab her neck in a vital hold. Hanging onto the hold was a different story.
The she-wolf was thrashing around like a fish out of water, making it difficult for Kostis to hold onto her without killing her. "Swithun! Tanwyn! Get here now, I can't hold her much longer!" Kostis shouted over the link. He put more of his weight into the hold and only succeeded in making the she-wolf more frantic. "We are trying brother, the storm is making it hard to move quickly" Tanwyn replied.
Swithun pulled the coat tighter against his skin as he struggled to follow his brother's wolf. Tanwyn was leading the way to help Swithun walk in the deep snow and because he could track Kostis better in fur.
"f**k this snow and f**k the cold" Swithun shivered. He hated the cold, he grew up in California and trained with his uncle there unlike his brothers, who stayed with his mother and father in Alaska and trained in the bitterly cold weather. "Something wrong little brother?" Tanwyn asked amusedly. "Shut up asshole" He growled.
Swithun held the syringe tightly in his hand, filled with enough sedative to take down two full-grown wolves, from what Kostis was telling them through the link, she was much strong than anything they encountered before. If he was struggling with her when she wasn't even in her prime yet...what would she be like fully grown?
They picked up the pace as they heard the sounds of their brother and the she-wolf battling. As they came into the clearing they saw Kostis holding the she-wolf by the shoulder as she tore into his side, blood was strewn about the snow. Both wolves were covered in blood and Kostis was starting to tire while it looked like the she-wolf barely broke a sweat.
Tanwyn wasted no time in rushing in and grabbing the she-wolf by the neck, he was met with razor-sharp claws and an enraged wolf, desperate to get her teeth into either of the males and tear them apart. "f**k, I thought she was going to kill me before you two got here," Kostis said tiredly. "She may still yet brother, Swithun stick that needle in her as soon as you can!" Tanwyn yelled as he struggled to hold onto the female. Her thick coat made it hard to grip onto the skin and get a secure hold and she was taking full advantage of it by twisting and clawing at the males.
Kostis ran in and grabbed the she-wolf's exposed shoulder and pinned her down with the help of Tanwyn. Even with the two full-grown wolves putting their full weight into holding her down, they still struggled in holding their bites.
Normally you never get in-between a fight between wolves, or animals in general unless you wish great bodily harm upon yourself. Swithun was just about to do that to stick a needle in an enraged, powerful she-wolf who was still fighting his brothers. His two very large, strong, brothers. He was suddenly starting to regret ever agreeing to this.
He slowly inched his way closer waiting for an opportunity to sedate the female before she managed to kill one of his brothers. He watched as she twisted around and somehow managed to loosen the grip his brothers had on her.
She was covered in her own blood and various wounds littered her body. Kostis and Tanwyn didn't fare any better. They both were nearly spent and they still hadn't managed to hold her down long enough for Swithun to sedate her.
The she-wolf yelped in pain as Tanwyn pit down hard on her left leg, snapping it in half. Now on three legs, she was slower and the pain was starting to disorientate her. Kostis leaped onto her back and managed to pin her down on her back, giving Swithun a brief opportunity to jab the needle in her neck.
After he did the three males quickly backed away and let her run. The she-wolf ran through the forest blindly. No longer caring about going to the mountains she just wanted a safe place to hide.
She made it only a few yards before she started feeling woozy. Her body swayed with every step and her vision blurred. The wolves behind her watched with sharp eyes as she stopped.
She was shaking on weak limps, panting heavily as she tried to take another step forward. Her body fell to the group with a heavy thump and her eyes started to close.
As she fell into a darkness she felt a hand on her head. "I am so sorry," the quiet voice said, fading away into silence.
