Chapter 3 - The dead

I froze. My head was still spinning from the blow to my head. No one moved for a few seconds. We just stood there in the rain, staring at Tommy's body on the ground. Alex was the first to move. He carefully walked up to Tommy and turned him over. I gasped and my stomach churned. Tommy had a deep bleeding gash over his throat. Alex put two fingers on Tommy's wrist to check for a pulse. His eyes widened and he looked at George. "Can you feel anything?" I asked shakily. Alex shook his head, his eyes wide as saucers. Dread settled in the pit of my stomach. No. Oh no. This was bad. What do we do? Before I could ask that question out loud, I heard a crowd of people laughing and shouting out on the street. And they were heading our way. I acted before I could think things through. "Alex you need to get out of here. Follow the alley and get out on the street behind this building. Get back to your apartment and get ready to meet George at Fallman Lake." Alex stared at me. "Now!" I hissed. Alex turned around and ran. "What do we do now?" George asked. The panic was evident in his voice, but there was no going back now. I had much better chances to get out of this with minimal punishment than George had. "You go after Alex. Figure out a way to leave the pack. Take Alex to the Blue Eclipse pack and live the happiest life you can ever imagine." "No! I'm not leaving you!" George almost shouted. "You don't have a choice, if you don't do it for yourself then at least do it for Alex. He needs you." The look of despair on George's face told me that I convinced him. He turned around and ran down the alley. I heard that the group of people were closing in on me, so I had to act fast. I made my own claws extend on my hand and kneeled by Tommy's body. Then I dipped my claws in the wound and smeared some of the blood on my clothes. I sniffed the air to make sure that George and Alex couldn't be smelled. Luckily the heavy rain had washed away their scents. It had to look like I was the only one responsible for this. I heard gasps from the group behind me. I turned around and realized they were werewolves. In fact, it was a group of jocks and cheerleaders from Red Ridge High. I recognized Thomas, Roy and Felicia from my spanish class. One of the girls I didn't know screamed. "What have you done Sally!" Roy called out. "I…" The tears I had been holding back started to flow freely down my cheeks. I didn't really know what to say. "It was an accident, I swear." I whispered. "I've mindlinked the border patrol. They are on their way, we just have to keep her here." Said the girl that just screamed, her voice laced with panic. Felicia raised their hands in the air and walked towards me. "It's okay Sally. We got you." She said soothingly. I blinked on my left eye when something trickled down into it. I tried to wipe it away and realized that I was bleeding from where Tommy hit my head on the dumpster. The claw marks on my arm had luckily stopped bleeding. That's when it hit me. They thought that Tommy attacked me and I acted in self defense. That's why they were so soothing. I suppose they would have just tackled me to the ground otherwise. More tears escaped my eyes when two warriors showed up in a car. "What happened?" One of them asked. The other went over to Tommy's body and searched for a pulse, but found none. "She killed him!" Another girl said and pointed at me. Felicia was standing next to me and gently touched my forehead. I flinched and desperately tried to stop myself from trembling. "Did he hurt you, Sally?" Felicia asked quietly. I didn't know what to say. Should I play along with what they assumed? Should I tell the truth. What wound happen to George and Alex if I did? A sob left my lips and before I could say another word Felicia pulled me into a hug. "It's gonna be okay." She whispered in my hair. One of the warriors came up next to us and cleared his throat. "You need to come with us back to the pack house." He said awkwardly. I just allowed them to lead me out of there. I started to feel my body going numb and I was so tired it felt like I could sleep for a week. The car ride back to the packhouse was silent. The driver glanced at me every now and then. I tried to avoid his gaze and leaned my head against the window. When we reached the packhouse, Josh, the head warrior, and Alpha Hudson were waiting outside. Both had serious expressions on their faces and I started to feel anxious. "Take her to the dungeon, the Alpha will have a word with her later." Josh ordered. I glanced at Hudson. He had a pained look on his face. I wasn't sure if it was because he mourning the loss of his cousin or if it was because his Beta's sister was the one that had killed him. Without a word, the warriors led me through the doors of the packhouse and towards the basement where the holding cells were located. If this was an ordinary day. I would have gone up the stairs to the third floor where the Beta family lived. Now I basically got locked up in the basement of the house where I lived. Terrific. When we reached the cells one of the warriors opened the cell door. I walked into the cell without a word and they closed the door. "What's your name?" The question surprised me and I looked at the warriors standing on the other side of the bars. "Sally." "Look Sally, I know this is serious. You killed someone after all. But I think they'll go easy on you. I really hope they do. You seem like a sweet kid." One of the warriors said. "Thank you." I croaked out. They both smiled at me and then left. I sank down on the floor and let myself break down. For my sake, I really hoped that they were right.
