15 THE CRUISETeresa toned down the style of the funeral for several reasons. Firstly, she knew that John would not have liked a fuss, but secondly for reasons of safety. She had talked it over with Tony first and then with the police and they had recommended that it be for invited guests only in case somebody was planning a hit on them. The service in the Ermita de Santiago and the burial at Ojen memorial ground was touching, then the guests went back to the house where a marquee was stuffed with food and drink, the only stipulation that John had made.
It was a sad day, naturally, but John’s body had been ‘on ice’ at the hospital mortuary for weeks, and the funeral put an end to his mortal remains, so that everyone could continue with their lives. The cause of death had been attributed to
