Iris made dinner and sat down to eat when her dad returned home with a bigger sulk than in the morning when he had left. It was obvious that he had met Henrietta, but couldn't convince her to stay. Iris was now adamant. If he could pursue her, then why couldn't she be with the man she loved?
"Do you have anything left for me to eat?" asked her dad, sitting down with her at the dining table. Iris got up to serve him a plate of couscous and herbed chicken served with mashed potatoes and stir-fried broccoli. Thankfully, she had made extra in case her dad arrived early.
Her dad devoured the food hungrily. Didn't he eat any lunch? He seemed tired and exhausted. "Are you okay, dad?" she asked him.
"Yes. Thanks for this. I was dying of hunger," he told her with a small smile.
