CHAPTER 14

1030 Words
MIRABEL POV. Noah leaned in so close I could feel his breath against my skin—soft, fresh, and far too tempting. His hand brushed my cheek, holding me like I was something fragile. His blue eyes locked on mine, and I swear, it took everything in me not to lean into him like a lovesick fool. “I swallowed hard, pressing my palms against his chest. “This place is awfully tight. Think you can shift back a little?” Noah did not budge. If anything, he leaned closer, like a flame drawn to kindling. My body betrayed me, my wolf practically howling to pull him closer, to close the unbearable distance between us. His eyes went to my lips, and I knew he was thinking the same thing. “I want you,” he murmured, sending a shiver straight down my spine. My head jerked up, my face burning up. “Uh…what did you just say?” He held my gaze with his blue eyes. “I wanted to ask you to the Christmas ball. But Silas beat me to it.” he continued with a resigned sigh, running his fingers through his hair. “I was going to ask you after school.” I blinked. “You are kidding. You and your brothers can’t stand me.” Noah chuckled, his fingers twirling a strand of my hair. “That’s not true. I don’t hate you. In fact…” His voice dipped, making my heart race. “I admire you. Your fire, your guts—they make me crazy, Mira. They make me want you. I want to hold you, kiss you, claim you.” My breath hitched as his arms slid around my waist, pulling me closer until there was no space between us. “You are all I think about,” he murmured, his voice sending shivers down my spine. “I want to f**k you until you can’t think of anything else but me. I want to—” “Whoa, whoa, whoa,” I interrupted, my cheeks burning. “Did you hit your head or take something before coming here? Because this…” I waved a hand between us. “…this is not the Noah I know.” He smirked, slow and wicked, and I swear my knees almost gave out. “I’m fine, cupcake. The only thing affecting me is you. You’re intoxicating.” I swallowed hard. “Whatever this is, you need to stop.” “Why?” His smirk widened. “You like it. Don’t lie to me, Mirabel. I can feel it—your heartbeat, your scent. You want this as much as I do.” My jaw dropped. “Excuse me?” “You heard me,” he said huskily. “If I had no self-control, I would have already made you mine.” I shoved at his chest, but he didn’t budge. “You have lost your mind,” I muttered, though my traitorous body betrayed me with every shiver and skipped heartbeat. “Maybe,” he said, brushing his thumb over my jaw, his eyes darkening. “Or maybe I have just stopped pretending I don’t want you.” I opened my mouth to argue, but the way he looked at me—like I was the only thing in the world—stole the words right out of my head. “Every man loses control when he is near the woman he desires,” he said softly. “You have been driving me insane, Mira. I have tried to forget you, tried to focus on anything else, but it’s impossible. When I saw you with Silas…” His voice broke, the raw vulnerability catching me off guard. “…I knew I couldn’t wait any longer. I need you.” I stared at him, my pulse roaring in my ears. Then, with every ounce of self-preservation, I reached for the door and yanked it open. “It looks like they are gone,” I said breezily, stepping away from him as though my entire body wasn’t trembling. Noah opened his mouth, clearly ready to keep the conversation going, but before he could get a word out, Susan appeared at the end of the hallway “Noah,” she called. “Your mother…she’s asking for you. In her room. It’s…important.” Something flickered in Noah’s expression—concern, maybe frustration—but it was gone so fast I couldn’t be sure. “Right,” he said. He turned back to me, stepping closer one last time, his lips brushing against my ear as he whispered, “This isn’t over, cupcake. You are going to see a lot more of me—and I’m not backing down.” A shiver ran down my spine, his words sinking into my skin like molten heat. Before I could recover—or shove him for the nickname again—he straightened, his smirk back in place. ******* The moment he was out of sight, I let out a breath I hadn’t even realized I was holding, slamming the door shut and leaning against it for support. “What the hell just happened?” I muttered to myself, pressing my hands to my flaming cheeks. This was Noah—the youngest, most proper of the Monter brothers. The one who usually looked like he would die before breaking the rules. And now? Now he was acting like he had stepped straight out of some bad romance novel, complete with the whole broody-and-possessive vibe. I groaned. “He has lost his mind. That’s it.” But the memory of his hands on my waist, his breath on my skin, the heat in his eyes—it all came rushing back, making me blush despite myself. “Pull it together, Mirabel,” I told myself firmly, planting my hands on my hips. “He is just messing with you. That’s all this is. Some weird, twisted Alpha game. You are not falling for it.” I groaned, yanking my phone out of my pocket and texting Ash the only person I trusted to help me figure this mess out. Me: We need to talk. Urgent.
