DELILAH
I froze, glancing up at him with wide eyes. Xavier stepped closer to me, making me back away against the door frame. But he closed the space between us, staring down at me with hooded eyes. I hated how tall he was, towering over me like that. I wasn't particularly short, but he was a giant.
He just stared at me for a few moments, after which his free hand gently traced my cheek, making me squeeze my eyes shut. My heart was once again racing, but somehow, I wasn't as afraid as I was earlier.
"You're beautiful, Delilah," he whispered, causing goosebumps on my skin.
"I wanna go," I squeaked out.
He let out a small sigh, after which I felt him step away from me. "Sorry," he stated. "I just wanted to get a good look at you before you left. I cannot believe I'll have to wait until tomorrow night to see you again."
My eyes shot open. "Tomorrow?" I whispered.
That was too little time for me to run away. I didn't want to spend another night with him.
"Of course." He frowned.
"But... I--I thought..."
"You thought?" He raised an eyebrow.
I opened my mouth to reply, then closed it. He was standing way too close to me. There was nowhere to run. I felt trapped.
"What is it, Delilah?" he asked, casually resting his hand on the doorframe, above my head.
A shiver crawled through me.
"I have a show tomorrow night," I whispered. "I can't skip that."
"Oh, do you?" he asked with feigned surprise, after which his eyes trailed down my body. "Where? Whose party is it? What time?"
My head started spinning.
I lowered my gaze. "I--I don't feel well," I muttered, closing my eyes. "Can I please go home now? I can't come tomorrow."
"No chance, my little swan. If you're sick then you cannot perform. I will not allow you to overexert yourself like this."
I clenched my jaw. I wanted to punch him so bad. I wanted to scream out of frustration.
Oh God.
"I'm not sick, just tired. Your men kidnapped me from a club."
The second I said that, his entire demeanour changed. He stood up straight, looking even taller now, and his eyes narrowed. "They did what?" he asked in a low tone.
I frowned. "Kidnapped... me from the... club."
"Ryan!" he growled out so loud, everyone stopped what they were doing. I froze, drawing in a breath, my heart almost jumping out of my chest. "Ryan!" he yelled again, his eyes starting to change colour, the veins of his neck becoming a lot more prominent. I had the urge to run out, but fear had me paralysed.
"Yes, what's wrong?" Ryan ran up to us, but he didn't look the tiniest bit of scared. In fact, he looked angry too. "I was with Clarice, trying to explain to her what--"
"Did you get your Luna kidnapped?" Xavier cut him off, grabbing his collar.
Ryan binked up at him, then glanced at me, and back at him.
"I... In my defense, I didn't know this random performer would turn out to be your mate, Xavier."
"Why would you get a human kidnapped? Are you trying to create unnecessary fear for our pack? We are not animals, Ryan!"
"And I'm aware of that!" Ryan pushed Xavier's hand off and stepped away from him quickly. "I didn't ask Alex to kidnap anyone. But you were so mad at me I didn't have another choice. I got mad at him, so he did what he had to."
Xavier let out a low growl. "I will cut off the hand with which he touched her. Tell him to see me in an hour." Xavier turned to me, and I quickly looked away from him. He took my wrist once more and stormed out, with me struggling to follow behind.
"Wait," I cried, trying to pull my hand from his.
"What?" he snapped, stopping and turning to me.
"Let go of my hand, I can walk myself!"
"Fine." He obliged and started walking again.
I followed behind him, even though what I wanted was to run off in the opposite direction. He was way too fast, so I had to practically run after him, and I still couldn't catch up.
Xavier let out another growl and stopped suddenly, not giving me enough time to do the same. I bumped into his back, getting knocked off my balance. But before I could fall, his arm wrapped around my waist and then the next second, I was flung over his shoulder. I let out a loud scream, and attacked his back with my fists, hitting as hard as I could, but it was no use. It didn't affect him one bit.
"Let me go! I said I can walk!" I yelled, but he completely ignored me. My hand flew towards his hair, ready to pull them, but I instantly remembered what happened the last time I tried that. So my hand fell to his shoulder now, and I dug my nails into him with as much force as I could apply.
Xavier did not even flinch.
Finally, after what felt like the longest few moments of my life, we reached the car and he gently put me down in front of it. I pushed at his chest, but instead of him moving even an inch, I got pressed harder against the car. I glared up at him.
"I told you I could walk! Why did you do that?" I asked in disbelief, my heart still pounding within my chest.
"Because I've seen toddlers walk faster than you were walking," he replied, rolling his eyes.
"Maybe that's because the toddlers you've seen can transform into wolf cubs when they want!" I retorted.
Xavier looked away from me, and took a deep breath.
"Just get in the car, Delilah. Stop testing my patience. I have others things to do."
"I never asked you to drop me home. Just let me go."
Xavier slammed his hand against the car, making me flinch. He leaned in closer to me. "My little swan, please, get in the car, if you don't want me to carry you all the way home."
"Just because I'm afraid of you doesn't mean you can do anything you want," I stated, my voice breaking towards the end.
"Delilah," he growled, his eyes narrowing. "Get. In. The. Car."
My lips trembled, and I felt heat pool up in my eyes.
So I sniffed and pushed him away, opening the door to the backseat and crawling in. I grabbed the door to close it, but before I could, Xavier caught hold of it. He started getting in, so I quickly slid to the other side. "What are you doing? Why are you getting in the back with me?" I asked in alarm. I thought he'd be driving, that's why I chose the backseat.
"I don't drive my own car. I have a chauffeur for that."
I wanted to scoff. Imagine being that vane.
"Well where is he?" I said softly, looking away from him. I had myself tightly pressed against the door, so if the need arised, I could just open the door and fall off, to a nice peaceful death instead of being ripped to shreds by a monster. I wished I could push him out of the car instead. Preferably when the car was moving, especially on a busy road.
His chauffeur quickly rushed up to us, and got in, starting the car.
"Where to, Alpha?"
Xavier gestured at me.
I explained him where my house was, and instantly regretted it. I should have told them a different location. Why was I so stupid?
I stared out the window, my fists tightly clenched in my lap, my nails constantly digging into my palm.
A few moments later, Xavier sighed.
"I'm sorry," he stated. "About earlier."
"What part?" I muttered, not looking at him.
"Everything," he replied. I heard him shift closer, and warning bells started to go off in my head. "Look at me."
I didn't want to.
"I don't want to."
"Please."
I released a shaky breath, and then obliged to his request. His eyes were almost shining in the dark. They would've been really beautiful if they didn't belong to a monster.
"I'm sorry that my men kidnapped you, I'm sorry that you had to perform like that in front of my pack. You're my mate, and you are to be respected. You're not meant to entertain anyone."
I liked entertaining people. It was my passion. It was what kept me sane. But he didn't need to know that.
"Then why will you have me entertain you every day?" I said instead.
"That's different."
"How?"
"You're mine, Delilah. Everything that's yours is meant for me. Your love, your soul, your... body."
My heart sank in my chest. I felt tears form in my eyes once more. I looked away from him.
"But I won't take any of it, unless you want to give it to me."
Lies.
Monster.
"Stop that," he said softly.
I didn't know what he meant. I was only breathing. Maybe he wanted me to stop that too.
"Delilah." His hand went to mine, and I drew in a breath. He gently pried open my closed fist, and then his thumb lightly glided over the marks on my palm. "Why do you hurt yourself, my little swan?"
"None of your business." I tried to pull my hand from his hold, but he tightened his grip.
"Everything about you is my business from now on. The sooner you accept that, the better it'll be for you."
We entered my street just as he said that, and a sense of comfort filled me. I looked out the window and spotted my building. "That one! That's my house."
"Stop by that car," he said to his chauffeur, but refused to let my hand go.
The car halted, and I once again tried to pull my hand away. He still did not budge.
"Please let me go, please." I begged now, eager to go in and just collapse. My mind and body were exhausted.
"I'll have you know that you're expected tomorrow, at exactly seven. Do not be late. I'll have my chauffeur pick you up."
I gave him a nod.
"I'll be waiting," he added, before finally letting go of my hand. The second he did that, I opened the door and rushed out, not stopping until I was inside my apartment and had the door locked behind me. I slumped to the floor and buried my face in my hands, loud sobs leaving my lips.
"Delilah!" Bri's voice was distant, but I finally felt safe when her arms wrapped around me.
Even though, a part of me knew, that I would never be safe again.
