Call me Koti

Just like I had thought Alice had called for the groceries. She even told me that Misty was a vegetarian which was amusing even if it wasn't in the same pretenses. Before Alice hung up she mentioned that I should make vegetarian braised yee mee noodles for Misty tonight. The moment I got off the phone I headed into the kitchen and began preparing the meal. As I was adding in the vegetables to the noodles I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. I already knew it was Misty since she was the only person other then myself in the home. I could hear her footsteps coming up behind me and I briefly ignored them so I could finish the dish. In another minute the dinner was finished and I flipped it onto a plate and turned around to set it on the counter. I then placed a fork on the plate and allowed my focus to be taken else where which was to the young woman that stood before me. "How are you settling in Misty." I asked her. She sat down on a stool at the counter and picked up the fork before she began poking at her food. "Are you not hungry Misty?" I asked her. She prodded at it again before she looked up at me. "Is there any meat in this?" She asked me. I shook my head. "My family is vegetarian." I told her. She then lifted the fork to her mouth and took a bite. After she chewed slowly for a minute she swallowed and then looked back up at me. "Where is your family?" she asked before bringing her fork back up to her mouth. "They live in Washington, but I have a few extended family members that live in Denali." I responded as I moved to sit beside her. "I came here by myself." "Why?" She asked me before taking another bite. I thought about that. How would I explain to her that my wife I had been married to for several centuries was murdered by ravenous blood sucking demons. "My... fiance" I began. "She died a few months ago, she was mauled by a bear." My breathing picked back up as I tried to not loose control. Every time I thought of Rosalie's death I wanted to destroy everything around me. "I couldn't stand being there around my family, they were all in love and had their own thing going and I didn't want my mourning to disrupt that." Everything was silent for a several seconds before I realized it was too quiet. I moved my gaze from the counter top to look at Misty who had set down her fork and was wringing her hands together. I could hear the quickened beat of her heart and the labor in her breath that suggested she was trying to hold back tears. Why was she crying? "Misty...." I began. She looked up at me. "Call me Koti." She murmered before she turned her head away and wiped her eyes. "Koti?" I questioned. She nodded her head. "My father called me that. I haven't gone by my first name since I was born." I looked at her clearly for several moments before I nodded my head. "Well then Koti tomorrow I have class at about 9 in the morning so we can carpool if you like. If you need any clothes I am sure you can find something you like in the closet in the bedroom." I said before I rose to my feet. "If you need anything at all or are hungry just help yourself." I added before I headed downstairs to the basement that I made into my room. I didn't do anything but stare at the wall half the night before I couldn't take it anymore. I rose to my feet and went outside before I ran and dove into the water below. I needed to calm myself down. I needed to be able to think without feeling the pain that I knew I would never be able to forget. I was so angry at myself for allowing Rosalie to hunt on her own, I should have been there. I was supposed to protect her and I failed. I was unsure to how far I swam but when I finally turned around and headed back to the house the sun was at the 7:30 point in the sky. I had time to jump in the shower, freshen up and get dressed before I headed out to the college. As I was scaling the side of the cliff I paused when I remembered not only was I inhabiting the house but Misty... Koti was there as well. I had to make sure that she was up and ready to go in time to get to my classes. Before I even entered the house I heard movement, Koti was awake. I made my way downstairs to my room and got in the shower before I got dressed. I chose my white jeans and white sweatshirt. This was the same outfit I wore on the first day of Forks highschool. That was the day Edward and Bella first laid eyes on one another. I liked this outfit and the others I wore during the time Rosalie was alive so I kept them close. Alice tried to get rid of them several times but I wouldn't allow it. Instead she just leaves them be and adds more new clothes in hope that I eventually decide to get rid of the outfits that I held onto for so long. After I was finished I grabbed my book bag and headed upstairs. When I came out onto the landing I looked around and even sniffed the air. Misty..... Koti was still upstairs. I went and sat down in the living room to wait for her. It was around 8:30 when I heard her footsteps on the steps I rose to my feet and turned around. I watched in what felt like slow motion as Koti came down the stairs. It literally stopped my train of thought as she walked over to me. She was dressed in the matching outfit that Rosalie wore with me the day I wore this outfit. "You look nice." I said to her. She rose her arms slightly as she looked at herself. "Thanks, I hope your sister doesn't mind me wearing this I don't know why but I just felt drawn to it." I blinked several times. I had thought she was staying in Alice's bedroom but apparently she was staying in the bedroom Rosalie used for her clothes and things. Normally she slept in my room with me but her things took up too much space so she used the room beside Alice's. "That wasn't my sisters that was my fiances." I said. "Like I said you wear it well." I added before I headed out towards the garage. She stood there for a few seconds lingering on my words before she followed me. "I'm sorry, I honestly didn't know that this was your fiance's. If you want I can go change into something else." She said hurridly as she followed behind me in the garage. I stopped quickly and turned around to face her. I did my best to look accepting and happy. "It's fine, honestly." I said as I opened the passenger side door for her. She looked at my expression and nodded before she sat down carefully in the seat. I closed the door and then made my way around the car before I slid in beside her. "You ready?" I asked her. She slowly nodded her head. "I promise I will try and find somewhere to go today." she told me. I was backing out of the garage when she spoke and quickly slammed on the breaks causing us to lurch forward in our seats. "You don't have to go, I like your company." I told her. She shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know I just think this, me being with in your home and eating your food and all is too much. I don't want to be a hindrance." I reached my hand over to touch her arm and then thought twice about it. I didn't want my cold body to alarm her. "You aren't being a hindrance you are actually doing me a favor. You are the only person I really don't mind being around and I think that is a good thing for me." I smiled. For the first time she didn't avoid my eye contact and looked right at me. Her eyes were a marvelous greyish blue color. Her skin was a beautiful alabaster color that I had never seen on a human before, except one. Bella. I smiled and then turned my attention to the car and continued backing out before I headed to the campus. I had to rush a little bit in order to get there on time but once I was parked and sure that I wouldn't be late I headed inside with Koti. We walked down the hall and to the cafeteria that was filled with several students who were either studying or killing time between classes if not waiting for their first to start. Their heads turned automatically in my direction and a few began whispering. Of course I was used to this but still it got annoying hearing about woman liking my muscles and wondering who I was. Of course no one was brave enough to step forward and talk to me. Or so I thought. A tall slender brunet female walked up to me and held out her hand. "Hello I'm Mackenzie, freshman here and a Marine Biologist major." She began. I looked at her hand and then smiled. "I'm Emmett, freshman as well. My major is undecided." Mackenzie dropped her hand to her side and her eyes flickered to Koti who stood close behind me. "Um excuse me little girl lost the two of us are having a conversation, you know adult stuff." She glared at Koti. "If you hadn't realized that is your cue to leave. No one wants you here." I clenched my fists as I listened to the way Mackenzie was talking to my friend. I didn't like it one bit. "Uh Mackenzie I'd like you to meet Koti she lives with me." Mackenzie's eyes widened to saucers, crossing her arms quickly she looked from Koti to myself and back. "Since when?" she asked. "Since yesterday, I asked her to move in and she agreed." I replied with a smirk. "So you two are an item?" She pressed further. I looked to Koti. "To be honest- " she began. "-We've been together since freshman year of high school." I lied. I quickly brought my arm around her waist and moved her to my side. I could feel she was uncomfortable or atleast taken by surprise from the way her body tensed up before me. "That's impossible, Koti and myself went to West High School together and I never saw her with anyone or even you. She didn't even go to prom." "I went to Bartlett and I didn't go to prom either I thought it was a bit childish so I took her out to dinner and an actual dance at my families five star restuarant which we happen to be going to tonight." I lied cooley. "Well than I hope you don't mind if I join you and your date maybe we can turn it into a double date." Mackenzie pressed. I looked at Koti who was still silenced by her nerves and smiled. "Sure why not, you can meet us at our home just at the top of the hill." "The Cullen house definitely we will be there around 5 pm." Mackenzie replied. "Wait a minute." Koti finally spoke up. She took a step forward with her finger pointing right at Mackenzie. "You just tried flirting with my boyfriend and now you are planning to double date with us? With who?" Mackenzie shrugged her shoulders. "I'm in high demand, I mean look at me I'm beautiful. I'm sure I can find a date by the end of the day." she said before she walked off. I looked at Koti who blushed when her eyes met mine and she quickly looked away. "Sorry about that Koti, I didn't like the way she was talking about you." I told her. Koti shrugged her shoulders. "It's fine." she replied before she headed off. "Hey!" I called after her before she headed out the door. Koti stopped in her tracks and turned around to face me. Everyone was looking in our direction which made me feel really uncomfortable. I quickly walked over to her side and held the door open for her to walk through and then followed after her. "What is your last class?" I asked her. She reached into her bag and pulled out her schedule and unfolded it before she began reading it. "I know we have all the same classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but Tuesdays and Thursdays I am not sure." She ran her finger down her schedule and stopped. "I have Economics, Biology and French " I pulled out my schedule as well and held it up to hers. "Same classes except one." "You have Football?" she asked me. I nodded my head. "Yeah I played in high school, I was the Quarterback." She nodded her head as we came to our first class, Economics. I held the door open for her and then walked in behind her. Everyone was copying down the stuff on the board in silence meaning we were late. I followed Koti to a couple open seats and pulled out her chair for her and then sat beside her. I took out a notepad and pen and began copying down the board. In less than three minutes I was finished. Koti looked over at my notes and then pulled it closer. "You're writing is beautiful." She murmered as she slid it back over to me. I nodded my head and smiled. "Thanks." I stared up at the front and checked out again. That was another downfall to being a vampire, our minds got side tracked very easily. Luckily for me anything that happens around me gets stored in my mind whether or not I was paying attention to it. This was one of the few reasons why I got A's all the time. Sometime during the end of the class my attention fell to the young woman sitting beside me. Koti. I enjoyed her company and I hoped I would have more of it in the future. She was a good person and a great friend.
