I was sitting in the television room with Kota watching a television show about cooking vegetarian dishes. Learning to cook was one of the things I was determined to learn so Kota wouldn't have to do everything herself. I wanted to know that I could contribute equally when it came to our marraige and raising the kids so I was willing to learn anything and everything to do so.
"Tofu cubes would be good for Emma as a snack." I suggested to Kota.
"Next time we are in town we can definitely shop for some. We just ned to make sure that the day is overcast or rainy." Kota said to me.
I pulled her closer to my side and gave her a kiss.
"It's been a while since we've been around humans and truthfully I miss it. We should definitely make plans for a trip sometime soon." I replied.
I looked down at the watch on my arm and saw it was nearly 9 oclock in the morning. Still no sound from the kids meaning they were still sleeping. Any minute now I knew they would be waking up so it meant one thing, breakfast.
Making breakfast was one of the many interesting moments I had as a husband and father. Emma and Dakota were so different when it came to just about everything, including what they ate. Dakota liked his heavy meals, eggs, biscuits, hashbrowns, sausage, toast. Emma on the other hand normally had granola cereal with soy milk.
I rose to my feet and decided to get that read. Kota joined me and began cooking the hashbrowns eggs and sausage while I worked on the biscuits and toast. After 30 minutes of cooking and setting the table we heard the first stirs of our children. Just like clock work they made their way into the kitchen were they took their seats at the table.
I grabbed a pint of lion blood and poured it into cups before I heated it up for Kota and I. Then we all took our seats and began eating.
"How did you sleep?" I asked my son and daughter after I finished my cup of blood.
"I slept really well, thank you for asking daddy." My daughter replied quickly.
Emma had grown a few inches taller and her face was looking more elongated then it had four months ago. Just like her mother she had her blonde hair which seemed to get lighter and lighter each day. Emma now looked to be about 11 or 12.
"I had a dream about exploring the island." My son said.
I smiled as I watched him. He looked more and more like me everyday. He was currently a few inches taller then his sister and had darker hair.
"Well on that note I think a dream like that needs to come true." I replied. "Today, how about we all go to the north side of the island so you can stretch your legs."
I had both Emma and Dakota's undivided attention as they had always wanted to go to the northside fo the island but I had always said no.
Emma quickly rose from her feet and took her dish to the sink to wash it. She then took it upon herself to wash all the other dishes in the room before she rushed her brother to finish his breakfast. Once the kitchen was cleaned the two raced to their rooms where they got dressed.
"Well they certainly seem excited." Kota laughed as she rose to her feet.
I followed suit and kissed her on the lips before I started putting together things for a picnic lunch for the children. After I had put some blood and cups into the basket the children came running back into the room.
"READY!" Emma shouted.
"What are we waiting for then." I smirked before I headed towards the back door.
The moment we were out of the house the children took off. For having never been to the north side of the island they sure knew how to get there. Kota and I followed behind them and kept ourselves alert. The north side of the island wasn't only the most beautiful and elegant part but it was also where the animals were that could and would attack my children if given the chance.
When we made it to the destination I set down a blanket and put aside the basket before Kota and I fell into a game of chase with Emma and Dakota. We easily caught them and after a while we sat back and watched the kids play together.
"Did you ever think you would live to see this day?" Kota asked me as I held her in my arms.
"Never." I replied simply.
I looked up just in time to see Dakota and Emma wrestling with each other. Emma let out a scream and began to cry when Dakota pinched her.
"That wasn't nice!" I said to Dakota as I rose to my feet and walked over to Emma. I looked at her arm where he had pinched her and kissed it for her. Almost immeadiately Emma stopped crying. "Dakota come say sorry to your sister."
I watched as Dakota came slumping over towards Emma and rubbed her wound. He then smacked it before he tried to walk away.
I grabbed him and pulled him gently back.
"You need to say you are sorry, now." I chastized. Dakota looked at me and crossed his arms before he murmered 'I'm sorry' to his sister. "Good, now you can go over to your mother and sit right beside her because you are in a time out." I added.
"Dad!" He whined.
"I don't want to hear it Dakota, you do not hit your sister you are supposed to protect your sister." I replied. "Now go and sit, you have 10 minutes but the longer you delay the more time I will add on."
Dakota huffed at me and walked over to his mother before he sat down. I looked at Emma and gave her another kiss on her booboo before I brought her to her feet.
"What were you and your brother arguing about?" I asked, trying to understand the main problem.
"I squished the bug he was holding." Emma whispered. "He was trying to put it on me so I just squished it."
"Next time he tries to put a bug on you come and tell me okay, don't be squishing his bugs." I said to her.
Emma nodded her head and smiled before she wrapped her arms around me and gave me a hug. She then walked over to her brother and gave him and hug and a kiss.
"I'm sorry I squished your bug and I promise to never do it again." She said to him.
I walked over to Dakota and knelt down beside him.
"Do you know why you are here?" I asked him.
Dakota nodded his head.
"Because I hit my sister." He replied.
I nodded my head.
"And what will you never do again?" I asked.
"Hit my sister, I'm supposed to protect her not hurt her." He said to me.
I nodded my head.
"No give your sister another hug and go and play." I said to him.
Dakota quickly wrapped his arms around his sister and shed a few tears as he apologized for hurting her. I then listened proudly as I heard him promise to protect her forever. The sound of laughter quickly filled the clearing as the two began climbing an old fallen tree.
Kota snuck up behind me and wrapped her arms over my shoulders before she nestled against me.
"You are such a good daddy." She said to me. "Too bad we couldn't have more children because I think another little one would be nice." she cooed into my ear.
Before we could defend ourselves Dakota and Emma ran over and dogpiled on us. We fell on our backs and started laughing hysterically.
"Daddy" Emma began. "Whats the best thing that ever happened to you?" She asked me.
I pulled her onto my stomach and kissed her twice on her nose.
"The best thing that ever happened to me was you, your brother and your mommy." I said without missing a beat.
My family was the best thing to ever happen to me and I didn't need to pause and think to know it. Before Kota came into my life I had basically given up. She had brought me more happiness into my life in a year then I had felt in my lifetime. Even though Rosalie and I had our happy moments they were truly never like this. Kota blessed me with the gift to be able to love again and gave me more to live for. I was not only a husband but I was now, forever, a father. There is no other feeling like it.
