Chapter 1
Pearl's POV
I gather my red hair and throw it into a bun. I take my hoodie off and place it on the chair beside me. And I walk into the fight ring as we all call it.
My opponent is the Gamma himself today.
"Good Morning, Pearl" he smiles at me.
"Morning, Gamma Julian" I smile back at him.
He waits for a minute and then makes his first move by throwing his fist towards me. But I block his move.
I smirk at him and twist the same arm of his. He turns around and releases his hand in an instant. He then smirks at me and goes into the defence mode.
I make the move this time and turn around, then raise my left leg into the air towards Julian. He holds my leg and just as he starts twisting it, I jump in the air and use my right leg to hit him. It hits his jaw and he falls on floor but I land just fine.
The crowd starts cheering and I absolutely have no idea who they are cheering for. Definitely not me. I am not the fan favourite. I am never the fan favourite.
Julian stands up and gets to his defence mode again. I punch Julian thrice till he stumbles back and I use that wobbly minute of his to hit on his legs. He falls down on his knees and before he has a chance to react, I have him in headlock.
The cheers die down. I know. Like I said, I am not a fan favourite and will never be a fan favourite.
"Pearl!" I hear my Beta yell for me.
I turn to the direction of his voice, and I see Austin smile and wave at me.
"The Alpha wants to talk to you" he shouts for me to hear.
I nod and free Julian from the headlock. He just pats my shoulder in appreciation. Once he leaves, the whole crowd leaves as well.
So much for the celebration of Female Warrior win. Yay! I throw on my hoodie again and walk towards the Alpha's house.
"Let us celebrate! How about a run later?" My wolf Mist asks me.
Yes, my Wolf's name is Mist. I had my first shift three years ago at the age of eighteen. It was early winter and there was mist all around me. Moreover my wolf colour is white too. So I just named her Mist.
"Yes. We meet our Asshole of an Alpha first and a run next" I tell her and she just nods excitedly.
Wonder why I just called my Alpha as an asshole? Well, give me two minutes and you will know.
I reach Alpha's house and walk in. He is having his breakfast at the dining table and I walk to him. I bow down to him and stare at the floor not meeting his eyes.
"How many times do I have to tell you?" He asks and I have no idea what he is talking about.
"I am sorry I don't get what you are talking about, Alpha" I say.
"Violet mindlinked me saying you defeated the Gamma again. You are a female warrior and stay where you are! Do not mess with higher ranks and project us as fools who cannot win against a woman!" He screams at my face and I close my eyes.
He is now standing and glaring at me.
You see why I call him an asshole now? Well, you want to know something more? We both share the same father. Darius Adams, in heavens had a mistress and that mistress also happens to be my mom.
I have Alpha blood in me. But I was never considered for that just because they feel I am an abomination.
I was always a Mistress's daughter and never an Alpha's daughter.
And the position of 'The Light Ridge Pack's Female Warrior' I earned it myself. I fought and defeated every single opponent to get till here. As the rank went by and when it was the Beta's turn for me to fight with, Alpha called the competition off.
Because he knew I would kick the Beta's ass and then defeat the Alpha of The Light Ridge Pack. And to save his whatever little dignity he had, he made me the Female Warrior of the pack.
"I will not do that again, Alpha" I say and still stare at the floor.
I always wonder why I am this way and Maxwell gets the Alpha title. His mother was an Omega but my mother was a Warrior's daughter. Not that I am judging his mother but I have power in my blood. We share the same father. The Alpha's blood.
Sometimes it frustrates me how I want to shout at every single one of them.
I see Maxwell's mate, Camila walk out of the kitchen and I can feel Maxwell glare at her. She calmly walks to her room and shuts the door. Camila is our Luna. Luna to the pack but once she enters the Alpha's house, she is treated worse than a maid.
And Violet that Maxwell mentioned earlier, who mindlinked him to say I was kicking the Gamma's ass... Is Maxwell's mistress. The Adam's family and their history of mistress fetish men appalls me.
"I guess I made myself clear" he says and I nod.
I bow to him and turn around to see Violet waiting for Maxwell. She smirks at me but I roll my eyes at her.
"Don't roll your eyes at me" she scoffs.
And I roll my eyes again before leaving. She scoffs again. I slightly turn around when I reach the entrance and I see Maxwell kissing Violet.
Your mate is just in the other room, you fuckard!
I walk to the run point. The point where we start our pack runs. Usually everyone shifts and starts running anywhere near the borders, but when I start at the run point and end at the run point again, I feel the sense of accomplishment. It makes me appreciate Mist and myself.
I strip naked and behind a tree and close my eyes. I shift all my energy and control to Mist and she grabs it without a second thought. A minute of bone snapping later, four white wolf paws instead of two human legs.
"Ready?" Mist asks me.
I don't answer and she takes that as my yes. Not that I said yes. My mood goes off whenever I talk to Maxwell. He might be an Alpha to everyone else but my half brother and a huge asshole!
I see the world through Mist's eyes and everything seems fascinating. The speed, the vision, the wolf abilities... They hold lots of power which is exactly why Werewolves need shift runs once in a while. The wolf side is too powerful for the human side to hold in the back of our heads.
Our pack is small and we don't really have any streams or whatever. We have a lake which is our main source of water. Mist takes a break. I look at the reflection in the water and I see a beautiful white wolf.
"No matter how many times I say, you still make me go awe" I tell Mist and she smiles back.
Two minute stop at the lake later, Mist resumes the run and we finish at the run point again. And this time, I see Austin walking towards the run point. I quickly throw my clothes back on and walk to him.
"Here for a run, beta?" I ask him.
"Do they sell hot dogs here?" He sarcastically asks me making me roll my eyes.
He eventually laughs and nods.
"Is it violet again?" He asks very well knowing that will be the reason why Alpha Asshole would call me most of the times.
I nod as a response.
"I am really sorry you have to go through that s**t everyday" he whispers.
"Chill!" I whisper with a smile and he nods.
He leaves and I look at him shift into his brown wolf. Since he is a Beta his wolf is larger as well. His wolf howls once and starts running making me smile. Something really fascinates me about wolves and their side.
Austin is our Beta and he is nineteen. He is yet to find his mate. He is someone who knows everything but still decides not to talk about it. Because we are all afraid of our Alpha. Alpha Asshole.
I walk back home with my waist length red hair dancing to the wind. And again, not many people greet me as I walk to my home. Not that I care. I used to care in the beginning but I adapted myself to this kind of treatment later on. This is how it is and this is how it will stay till I live.
I reach my house and I run straight to the shower. I take a long warm shower and throw on a purple tee shirt and black jeans on. I walk to the living room into the kitchen. I decide on a simple toast and coffee for breakfast.
My mom walks towards me and smiles at me. I don't smile back. She attempts to take the coffee pot from me but I hiss and she moves back.
"For how long are you going to be mad at me?" She asks.
And I don't answer.
"Pearl. I am your mother" she says again.
"Oh! I forgot about it. Remind me that I have a mother when she is ready to talk for me. Not with me" I say and I earn a slap from the woman who claims to be my mother.
Just like that, I lose appetite and walk to my room again.
I am not weak to fight back. Because I did fight back at first. I was alone and still fought with my half brother, with my mother and with everyone who questioned my worth.
But you know where I grew silent? It was when Micah rejected me. He was my mate. I found him when I was nineteen. I was so happy that I found him only to know that he was already in love with someone else. And that someone else was Emma. My best friend.
I grew weak mentally. All hardships from my pack one side, and rejection from Micah the other side. Emma and Micah even shifted to another pack. I don't know where they shifted to. I never attempted to even know.
I am trying to work on myself. But with a pack where people call me an abomination, an Alpha who is constantly afraid I would defeat him if there was a battle, an army who would never listen to me despite me being their official head.. it is hard to heal.
I wish I can run away. Somewhere nice. But I am afraid I would be all alone there too. The only shot at happiness to me, was the moment I found my mate. But it was also the same moment I saw my best friend jump on to him and kiss him. The fact that he kissed her back as he looked at me in the eye was frustrating.
I hear a knock on my door. I don't answer that. But when the knock turns into bang, I had to open the door.
My mother gives me a plate with two toasts, a cup of coffee and an apple.
"Eat first and then fall on bed. Sulk all day and see if I care" she says and walks away without saying anything.
My only reason that I stopped talking to my mom properly, is because she never talked for me. Even when Maxwell treated me unfair. It was also my fault to expect her to raise her voice. After all she was the Alpha's mistress. Just like how Violet is to Maxwell. And at least he listens to her.
I sit on my bed and eat my breakfast all alone until I receive mindlink from Camila. Our Luna. And my only friend here. She is in need of a friend too, so I guess we will be ranting and bad mouthing both our mates right now.
