CHAPTER THREEWhen she left home she had taken with her a present for her friend. It was a bottle of expensive French scent she had bought for herself. She also told the maid at the last minute to collect a large arrangement of Malmaison carnations from a vase in the drawing room. They were wrapped so that she could present them at the same time.
