Aspen’s POV I watched the guards load the traitors into wagons, my stomach uneasy. It just didn’t seem quite right for them to be punished for being lied to by the Drake. Drake had been the Beta until recently. If they hadn’t received any of the proclamations before Drake recruited them, then they’d have no reason to question his word. Cal had us ride in his personal carriage with him. He and Helio talked politics as we started out for the castle again. “That kingdom-wide party of yours, your Highness, that’s a stroke of genius,” Cal said excitedly. “All the people are looking forward to it, and it marks a new chapter in our history, where the royals don’t just hole themselves up in the castle to celebrate these sorts of events and care only for themselves. Everyone is talking about it.
